Geelong v Casey Scorpions

Recommended Posts

Thanks for taking the time to keep us posted KC it is really appreciated

Look forward to your always excellent reports of the match

I do really like your report of events flavoured with just a touch of your opinion.

Your observations are rarely contradicted so I feel I learn more about the squad than from many others posters.

Will obviously be interested in your appraisal of Watts Jurrah and the other individual contributions.

I think others have stated the importance of the basis of that side our high draft picks as the future team

It is certainly going to be interesting how the "ones" go and how we are able to use the scorps as development of the squad.

GO DEES

Watts 20 disposals, 4 goals. Looks like he took being dropped in the right way, too good to languish in VFL, should be back in the seniors.

Next week:

IN: Watts & Jurrah (as sub)

OUT: Dunn & whoever doesn't play their role this week

I'd love to see Petterd, Blease and Bennel playing well back in the senior team, but want to see them playing consistently in the bests at Casey. All 3 have potential to be very good AFL players, but their deficiencies are holding them back. Let's hope these 3 develop and come on asap!

No one doubts Watts can play. Keen to know how many 1%ers to go with the goals and possessions.

Maybe gysberts needs to learn how to protect himself better. Maybe he has crap awareness and never braces for bumps and crashes well...

He puts his head over the ball, gets smashed and you have a go at him saying he has no awareness?????

Watts actually does a lot off the ball. If you look at pack marking situations, he's often the guy putting on blocks and shoving opponents out of the way. The problem is that we need him to be the one taking the mark. The big problem with his game is his tackling and repeat efforts. Generally if he's knocked out of the contest he falls over and that's the end of it. He needs to be back up and into them over and over again.

Any chance of considering the facts of what happened? Hmmm?

Doubt JUrrah would be close to selection given its his first game back. Plus he is still to deal with the interruptions of the forthcoming trial.

Not good that we have not heard Petterd being prominent from KC and others.

It will be interesting to see if Watts contested more today or relied on skill to get through at this level.

So will Wojinski be suspended for this? What about the guy who hit Gys?

Can anyone remember the last time someone was suspended after playing against Melbourne (Casey in this case)? I'm struggling to remember one in the past year.

Can we someone actually see and report on the incident?

He really needs to earn his promotion to the senior team, moreso than others, in my book.

I don't know details, but a jaw doesn't break on it's own. It happens with high contact. If he's hit someone high with enough force to break their jaw I would think that it's a slam dunk that he'd be reported for it.

A. His head wasnt over the ball when it happened

B. i said "maybe", dnt see how its having a go at him, simply identifying a possible weakspot in his game

C. U really think its "bad luck" that the same players keep getting constant injuries? Yeah ok mate

U really make unconstructive posts sometimes boss, please think before posting

Garry Lyon (who is commentating the game today for MMM and has been watching the Scorps) said that Watts would not be back next week based on todays game - stats looks good but it wasn't overly impressive.

Point taken I just don't see how you can prepare for injuries like broken jaws. Maybe Viney should take note as well. Maybe also you could inform the rest of us peasents about what acually happened.

As was said, how about we wait until someone who actually saw the incident can fill in the details. A broken jaw does not necessarily mean a high tackle... it could be a hip making contact in a contested ball situation, could be an attempt smother gone wrong, it could be any number of things... so why immediately assume it should be a reportable offence?

Crap!!! Viney & the Gys broken jaws.

I will be [censored] if we cant get Viney with our second round pick. Especially if we finish in the bottom three!

We will stitch up GWS down the track if they make us use our first pick...

Vineys was fair, first game and a crude bump. Was hard to avoid.

Gysberts on the other hand i noticed dosnt seem to brace the best for oncomming collision. Not sure of he sees them coming or not.

I agree. Having been dropped, in the absence of a disaster in the ones, I think you need to earn back your place with a couple of 'best' performances in the twos. Consistency of effort needs to be demonstrated, I think.

P.s. it's a contact sport and broken jaws are always a possibility. I don' t think our injury list is any worse than a numb of other teams. This season we at last have some depth from which to choose.

I'm going by the report on this thread that says Wojinski laid him out with a bump.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
