Well, the masses got their wish granted and saw Ricky return to the seniors. Generally a Genie grants 3 wishes, so if that's the first one you've used up, make sure you get 1 of the next 2 right because this one is a total flop.

Seriously, first game back from a spell in the 2's, and your output was 3 kicks and 2 handballs? The love of Petterd on here is totally that blind faith that Neeld talks about.

My call - trade him to the Gold Coast at the end of the year. They may be silly enough to give away a 2nd rounder for him due to their need for players his age.

Interesting that he was picked up at #35 in 2008 draft. Mitch Robinson was at #40.

Pettard is in the same boat as bennell. Not suited as a backman, not good enough as a mid and also inconsistent up forward.

He was picked up at pick #30 2006 draft. Kurt Tippet was #32.

It looks more and more realistic that both these players can not take the next step into afl footy.

It's a real shame because petterd had some prospects.

It's a fine line between the right and wrong players.

What a shame our "supporters" blame the draft and blame the wrong guys .Petterd can play-he has proved it.

And drafting is such an exact science, isn't it. So easy that anyone can do it, especially in retrospect.

One could also ask of course how Tippet and Robinson would have 'developed' in our club.

But being right is much more fun ? ;-)( ?

I dont know what was more disappointing Petterds lack of possessions, his lack of defensive effort or his intent to continually play from behind and fly for mark of the year. I am not usually a believer in dropping players after one game but I am in this case.

Ricky didn't have his own thread, and given there has been a bit of talk about him I thought I'd start one up.

Ricky has obviously shown a lot off promise in his time at the mfc but has not been able to cement a spot. I think we'd all agree he can play when on song but he is inconsistent. For me, I think one of Ricky's strengths, his strong marking for his height, is also his biggest weakness.

Ricky needs to play as a small forward, a crumber. He is surrounded by taller players, yet he is inevitably the one who tries to go up instead of staying front and centre. I'm not saying that he shouldn't use his marking; it is a dangerous weapon when one out or when you have a clear sit, but in pack situations he should be playing the crumber role.

Add to that his forward pressure and courage I can see him making it, but of he doesn't adjust that aspect of his game he will continue to struggle.

First game back V Hawks and well down on confidence. Petterd would star with Hawthorn.

Out: Petterd. VERY ordinary. He pulled a Round 19 Moloney with no touches in the first half.

Agree. Lazy, selfish and undisciplined. Its round 7 and his name is rising in what will be a competitive delist process at year end.

Lazy lazy lazy - makes football difficult to watch. Showed none of the tackle pressure and more importantly did not run to chase and close space defensively or lead as a forward should. Give him the benefit of the doubt he had a cold - but as a career footballer some desperation to avoid a career coming to an end is needed. Shows all the traits a someone who would prefer to be the big man at vfl level than work hard to be a good afl player.

It doesn't have to be your night to chase and lay a few tackles and apply a bit of pressure. I can forgive him for not getting his hands on the footy as often as he probably should, but for farks sake some of his efforts were embarrassing. You are not going to get 20 touches and kick 2 goals every week, but you sure should be able to lay a few tackles or cause a couple of turnovers with some sort of pressure.

Don't think they are. Warnock definitely fills a need with GC for a mature, big-bodied back - perhaps born out by the 22 disposals and 10 marks he took in a losing side today. Petterd? Why would GC be interested?

I've been saying for weeks that I'd preferred Petterd over Dunn. My apologies everyone.

Then again, it's somewhat akin to choosing between a turd sandwich and a turd salad at the moment.

Very disappointing on Friday. I'm one that backs him up but he just seems to have gone backwards and looked so out of his depth. Maybe it's the weight of the injuries he's had and he is just not able to play with any confidence, it will be very interesting to see how the selectors react this week. I would have liked to see him get a run of games to build some confidence but the other night there was nothing to build on.

However, he was a live wire in our win V's Collingwood in the NAB Cup in March.

And it was only 12 months ago when he starred V's Adelaide with 4 goals and got brownlow votes V Port in Darwin.

A talent that should be persisted with for the time being.

If he's still struggling by the end of the year, it may be beneficial to part ways.

Ricky is a good player. He will get it together this year .I do hope we start winning a few games towards the end of the year .I think he will be a part of it .

The sad reality is that any forward would struggle with the way the ball enters our forward line at the moment. This is why we have seen a revolving door of our forward line players heading to Casey and back. There is of course one exception and that is Mitch Clark, his efforts this year have been fantastic and should not be underestimated. I believe when we start to run and carry the ball and break lines the forward line will start to open up and the work load will be shared around a lot more. At the moment the game plan seems to be bomb it to Clark and hope for the best. Ricky Bobby has the talent and as our game plan evolves he will come into his own as will the other forwards.

We flogged Adelaide last year by 90-odd points. I'd expect most players would look good in that result.

Magner played well in the NAB Cup, as did Jones. They have carried that form in to the season, Petterd hasn't.

Howe is a classic example of not sitting back in the forward line waiting, he goes and gets his own ball, as does Mitch. For Petterd to not have a possession in a half of footy, when 100% fit, is totally unacceptable in today's game. You don't get in to form by sitting back and waiting.

My trade talk isn't after one game BJ - I have had concerns about RP's potential for some time, and I think this year, he is showing my concerns were valid.

Really Bossdog? I mean REALLY? Did you really think Nasher was calling the players turds? I'll put it this way, it's like a beer drinker being offered a Fosters Light Ice or to a Tooheys Blue. They both taste like beer (could be debated), but at the end of the day, either are from from what you'd like to see your fridge filled with. I guess you could read that as me saying both players are as weak as pi$$, but YOU KNOW that's not my intention, just like Nasher's post.

I think Rickys biggest problem is that he dosn't excel in a losing side. He only performs well when the MFC are on top of games. He isnt the type of player who i can ever see turning the game around.
