Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

1. But Dunn and Couch play the same roles? Hardly mate. Pretty sure Dunn runs along the wing alot as does Morton,

I said Dunn and Morton play different roles. Dunn was played up forward when subbed on in junk time.

difference is Dunn is not scared of the ball, the opposition, the crowd, seagulls....

jumper punching must draw big points in your neck of the woods. Dont let it trick that Dunn is not timid.

2. Ahhhhh he leads the way when you compare him to the rest of our players at the moment though, still our best chance of laying a tackle anywhere in the forward half

The opponent better be standing right beside or in front of him because he does not chase.

I think you misinterpret me.

....

I was referring to fumbles McDonald, aka Joel.

Agreed and apologies. Joelmac did come to mind. Dont think he will make the 22.

1. Yeah I get it mate, I was stating that Couch and Morton play different roles too, hence highlighting why I didn't understand someone saying a particular player would keep another player out of the team when they play a different role at the expense of another player who plays a different role etc etc....

2. Actually at the moment it does! See anyone from MFC being physical enough? See anyone stand up for Grimes when polaxed? See anyone being the aggressor rather than the timid apologetic wuss? On current form and history I would play Dunn EVERY DAY of the week ahead of Morton. We're done with playing players on potential and draft order aren't we?

3. Riiiiiiiight... So our best inside 50 tackler doesn't chase but others do? Not seeing he'e the best chaser ever but he's pretty close to number one for our team on it's current efforts

I still have a feeling couch will play

So do I DC

I said the following elsewhere

WE recruited the kid, then upgraded him from the rookie list.

He has put in some good games at Casey

We have lost the first three games by an average 10 goals

Been belted in the mid field every week.

Why hell would we not play him this week.

What are we waiting for?

Dunn was pick 14 and has had 8 years on the list. I guess you were done playing players on potential arent we?

Take it up with the Club on Petterd. They might learn something from you or conversely....

Its a hair split.

Playing Magner, Couch and Moloney together gives me an impression of ssllooww.

Here's a thought Moloney pulls up sore pre match and they play Couch......might be insurance.

Would have thought Dunn would keep Morton out not Couch

Without question....

Although, this is the MFC we're talking about. So i'm pretty sure Dunn will still keep Couch out...with Morton offering such 'potential' amazing closing speed, sure handling, super agility and great tackling skills....as well as brute strength in the contested footy stakes, he can't be overlooked and should be given as many chances as needed to prove himself i reckon

Totally agree. Doesn't lay many but he's one of the few that does....and not only that....when he does he at least sticks a decent tackle, unlike most others in our forward line such as Green, Petterd, Davey, Watts and Martin (when they're in there) who often get brushed aside in the tackle or lay a neck high tackle (which doesn't involve too much body on body.....soft way out IMO). Maybe Howe the only other who's able to actually get his hands on the opposition and stick a decent tackle in the forward line recently.

Not only that, if you watch Dunn's bodywork and positioning in the forward line, he has an ok read on the play and a very capable contested mark using his body pretty well in the contest. With the exception of Clark, uses the limited opportunities given in our forward line reasonably well compared to our other non-existent/inconsistent forwards. And no i'm not saying Dunn's the answer up forward long term, nor a stellar performer for us in a comparative sense to other club's top forwards by any means. But, until we find someone better....he's a must have. And as i've said many times before, one of the few players who can kick a roost goal from 50 or just outside in the team from a set shot. There's few others who can apart from Howe and Jones. He also doesn't take any crap....which doesn't make anyone an automatic "in" i realise, but at least he gives back as good as he gets. Downside is he's pretty slow paced and sluggish as forwards go but then he has plenty of mates lol.

We are slow .....or bumbling....regardless of who we put in there ATM....with the exception of Jones maybe. You've left Jones out and i realise he's being used on the ball a fair bit as well but i feel he can offer us something of a pace change up if used well. Not saying he's super quick but his agility, burst speed and quicker/more precise decision making (ie., quick kick into the forward 50 if needed) is a rung or 2 above the other 3 atm.

I'd rather hit the opposition hard with tough hard nosed mids through the middle anyway at this point (given what's on offer for us as an alternative right now... ie., pretty much Zilch!) and stick it to them in the body on body with these three plus Jonesy rotating, than get smacked both on the inside and outside as we are at present having hulks like Morton running through there or Tappy/Trenners who have absolutely no idea in the middle (lost sheep). We need someone with genuine pace/agility/speed/clean/quick ball handling for sure....but until we uncover them, we gotta stop the bleeding and give our boys a slightly better chance to stem the flow....and give our defense a bit more time to set up....and a decent rest once in a while. Our defense is getting pummeled every week due to our crap performance in the middle (among other crap performances around the ground lol) atm.

I would love to see them pull the trigger on Fitzy over Sellar in this game.

With Lake out and the Dogs blooding Ayce Cordy, it's a real chance to see what he can do on the big stage.

I don't look at it for a Fitzy up forward point of view, I'm not sure he's up to that yet, but as an opportunity to play Fitzy in the ruck and let Jamar play forward it's a real option. Big Russian would be hard to beat if isolated deep considering they have to take care of Clark as well.

So from my point of view I'd be playing whichever of Fitzy or Sellar offers you the best option in the ruck, which may well be Fitzy. He rucked ok in the nab cup and is doing well in the VFL, where as Sellar doesn't look like much of a ruckman, although he's a handier forward than Fitzy at this stage.

If Moloney comes back in you'd have to go with Jamar in the ruck at least for the first little while to see if they can regain some of their form from the last couple of seasons. Try Fitz up forward for a bit and he and Jamar can switch it up when Jamar needs a rest, etc.

Also is it just me or does Fitzy look like a baby giraffe learning to walk?

Don't apologise. That's not the way Joel Macdonald's name is spelt, and by three seasons only the plain lazy haven't worked it out.

I think Dunn positions OK when the ball is coming into the forward 50. But he appears to me to have no idea where to go when the ball is on its way out. Once again, a player who doesn't read defence. Whether it's his own deficiency or that of his coaches I remain unsure but I think it's the latter, because he's not alone in that regard.

Agreed. The opposition has to be pretty close when they take possession....or of a similar pace for Dunn or pretty much anyone in our forward 50 to lay a tackle lol. Not too much closing speed around them there 'Demonland' hills atm in a general sense eh

1.Ummmm what does his draft order have to do with anything? All I'm saying is forgetting potential, draft order etc Dunn is at the moment a MUCH better player than Morton.

2.Why would I need to do that? I think RIcky is doing okay, not quite at his potential at the moment, but very few are right now.

Guest José Mourinho

Bench: Couch, Dunn, Morton, and Sellar.

E: Fitz, Petterd, and MacDonald.

No Petterd?

Funny, when I think of Josh Kennedy-like players (i.e. someone who wasn't getting a game, who would be a great target for poaching) I can't come up with too many across the league, but I reckon Ricky would be one.

Hec....had to have a Jim Beam and lie down after that one. Was expecting a classic RR bake prior to opening

Watching this mid field, especially versus some of what else is on offer in the 8 etc, i dunno. I reckon we had it better when Wells and Alves were running round there in the 70's lol. Probably my memory is shot... but it just feels real bad atm. Can you remember a period when we were in such a state yourself? Not saying we've ever had amazing set ups but jeez.... pretty soul destroying atm,

I reckon Ricky Pettard is at the crossroads.

He will need to get fitter and go hard in the forward press. Like most players on our list, he's still learning this craft and positioning, but it doesn't preclude him from the chase and tackle.

Something, that I feel, has dropped away in the last couple of years.

I've read in a few places that Tapscott has been predominantly training with the midfield group. He stepped in the square on the odd occasion last week. May get more time there as he gains a little more endurance throughout the season.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
