We don't know why Davey didn't play at Casey. Maybe his knee was a bit sore (which wouldn't make him a sensible emergency - unless there was no intention of playing him or anyone else and therefore an injured player was picked as an emergency to ensure fit players got real game time with Casey). Maybe the club decided after his week from hell his mind wasn't right to play with anyone last week (my preferred theory, by the way). Maybe he's over his physical and mental problems and now has his mind and his body right so he's ready to play. At least, I hope so.

There ya go.

As I said in the other thread... We all need to understand that footy clubs know players really well, and naturally they would rate the hell out of Davey, his skills are amazing despite losing a step

Agree... I think that what Davey provides is the "perceived" threat... opponents can put pressure on themselves because of Davey's reputation rather than his actual current level of performance.

FWIW, his head seemed pretty messed from his on field demeanour for 12 months.

He, along with others, has to deliver on Saturday.

Yes, the pressure is on aaron. unfortunately he doesn't seems to respond well to pressure, but he is not alone there

Well I suppose if Green got a chance at retribution then Davey deserves the same.

I can only imagine that Davey has been included for either forward crumbing and pressure, or some around-the-ground ball use and pace. Who else would provide these attributes that isn't either injured (Gysberts, Jetta, Strauss, Evans) or playing worse than Davey (Blease, Bennell)?

Not an ideal situation, but the best of a bad bunch.

Now that he's been picked to play, I'd like to see him spend a couple of minutes each quarter on the ball. It adds speed, variety and skill to what is otherwise a midfield squad which is a bit one dimensional. And it would allow Davey to do more than waiting for a crumb in the forward line. I'm not, however, advocating a role for him on the backline.

Best 22 for the upcoming opposition should be the rule, week in and week out.

If Davey in best 22 all good, if not Casey. Same for all players.

He would have been dropped after Rnd 1 if it had not been for Mifsud.

If he does not perform then we drop him. Its disappointing that none of Bennell, Blease or Davey have flown the flag at all this year. Quite the opposite.

The biggest issue if he wallows at Casey for the rest of this year. MFC will need to extract him off the list carefully

Its quite amusing in a black way saying someone is or not "best 22". The bar could not be lower at the moment.

Afaik hes out of contract come years end.. then thats it bye bye..... or trade him prior. Any which ways if hes not up to it its simply no real loss. Value to club over..time to move on. thats just life.

I totally agree with this. Play him in the forward line for the entire game. His only KPI being - effect 10 tackles in our forward 50.

If he does that, he will also kick at least 3 goals. But it's essentially forward line pressure I would like to see from Davey.

In short, I want to see a pre-Bailey Davey.

I agree - I think this would be the best option - add forward defensive pressure because we've basically had none this year and Mitch Clark will be double timed no doubt.

It was sad to watch Davey today. I really hoped that he might give us something to cheer about

But he is a shadow of the old Flash. Not enough belief to take on the opposition - hesitant in the tackle - too quick to handpass -confidence absolutely shot.

He has no self-belief anymore. He might be dropped again.....and that would just about be the end of him.

A couple of good passages of play - perhaps with LJ - might get him going again..... but there is chance he's finished

Such a shame when we are desperate for a small forward. Doesn't have the pace anymore, can't stick a tackle, can't get own ball, can't harrass. The game has past him by and there his bag of tricks are depleted. Is not AFL standard anymore and that's all it boils down to. Is a passanger now and we definitely can't afford another one of them.

Last year in the big league. Thanks for the service.

Need to look in the draft for a quality small forward.

I agree that it should be "Best22 for upcoming opposition" but should also be in line with the coaches plan( structure) and the state of the player at that time (again the coaches role to get the player to perform) there should be no negativity or punishment about playoing in the 2'S its not country footy where numbers are limited. This is a squad of 42 to be used by the coach to get the maximum output. Still to see evidence of that happening and dont see the response as atotal cleanout. We do have many skills within the squad and many types of player who can be used but maybe not every week>

    With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals.
