Grimes injured

I was locked up in meetings for most of the day.

So what's this about Jack Grimes?

A couple of weeks? Three?

So these injuries give a few of the younger blokes an opportunity to show their wares. I want to see Lucas Cook, Troy Davis, Kelvin Lawrence, Tom McDonald and Josh Tynan. I think it's great that Tom Couch and James Magner will get more time in the midfield. That's what this series should be about.

Sure it would be good to get games into the players but many of them are only 2/3 week injuries and many will still get a run before Round 1.

Let me preface this by saying that I am leader of the Jack Grimes fan club. I simply love the man.

But to all those here on Demonland- Stop Bloody Whinging.

Every team has injuries. EVERY TEAM. Brisbane just lost their Captain again. Collingwood has two knee reco's and a few other medium termers. Hawthorn could barely field a fit side last year. Fremantle started recruiting blokes from the mines to fill in....

It is a contact sport and injuries will happen.

I don't want any Melbourne player to ever get injured and i will curse the world whenever it happens, but stop acting as if it only ever happens to us.

Whether he is back in two or ten weeks, the true test of whether we are an improving side, and even a good side is whether we have depth to cover. Whether there are blokes who can and will step into the void. If you think i am talking crap, think of a premiership team who lost their all australian CHB just before the finals and he never played again. Yet they have won 3 now in 5 years.

If that's what we are aiming to become then we must develop a robust enough list that can cater for these situations.

I love Grimey and think he is an absolute Jet. I am very thankful that on the face of it he will be fit for round 1.

But if he is not then we need to be good enough to cover his loss....

So quit the woe is me crap and the it always happens to Melbourne attitude as if no other club in the AFL has experienced it.....

lol, let's just see if this is actually 2 weeks or an 'MFC-fortnight' which is usually a couple of months

32 games in 3 years, yes let's give him the captaincy shall we, nevermind the fact he appears to be made of crepe paper

oh well at least we have the good old 'interrupted pre-season' disclaimer if he has a disappointing year

ah Melbourne, our motto should be 'stuffing things up since 1965'

crepe paper? and here all along i was thinking he was made of ceramic. No wonder!

Yeah, let's not pretend that there was a single person who read this thread and went "oh I'm sure it will all be just fine, who cares". If you didn't experience a little bit of vomit in the mouth, you are not human.

Hopefully he has some luck and it's one of those ones where everyone has overreacted and we all have a laugh.

If it's serious, well, that's just horrible for him. Worst timing ever.

But we've got players that can play his role, perhaps not as well, but we've replaced him many times before and we can do it again.

It could always be worse.

I am a cyborg.

I like this attitude. I do.

Neeld always mentions the fact that the club still has an inferiority complex when it comes to the facilities Collingood have even though ours are as good as - or even better than - theirs.

We are running out of things to complain about, that other clubs don't have to worry about.

To suggest that we delist our captain on the basis of a contact injury is nonsense.

To suggest that the fitness bloke is responsible for injuries that occured before he arrived or that occured as a result of contact in a contact sport is nonsense.

To forget hawthorn's injury list from last year or just overlook geelong's ruck problems (and say that these things don'tr occur for them) is nonsense.

I do not want to read ignorant guff on this site. BASIC inquiry would have got rid of the need to post pessimistic MFCSS dross that polluted my mind.

To ask you to not bother in the future is a pretty mild response.

Sloonie, it is sweet that you suggested I am silly...given your name. And no hint of irony. You should take that show professional.

Don't get me wrong, i like that name. It is sooo much more creative than just using your real name (like i did). And it is better than calling yourself hannibal, or ben-hur, or spartacus or ego-projection or anything else truely pissy.

You need to calm down buddy!, I post things to just put it out there and throw other things into the mix, it is a forum. You cant expect everyone to just post 'I hope he gets better', because if they did it would be the most boring forum on the net.

The delisting suggestion was a hypothetical, if u had your own company would u pay a staff member who couldn't do there job coz they were sick all year around? over a few years? I know i wouldn't, regardless of who they are.

I also like to suggest other things rather then our team always having a long injury list to being more then just 'bad luck', its just how I am. If you dont like other peoples opinions then I suggest you not read forums.

Interesting listening to Cam Mooney talk about Jonathon Brown's injury on SEN today.

I'm paraphrasing, but I think it's pretty close.

He said at Geelong "we always thought nobody trains as hard as Geelong, but one thing we had as rule was 'no 3rd man up in a contest at training' cos it's just too dangerous.

And it looks like that's what Goose Maguire has done here."

Sounds like a sensible rule, considering the photos of Grimes' shoulder injury.

Looks like Davis was 3rd man up, causing the injury as he collided with Grimes.

Obviously these things are accidents, but they can be mostly avoided with common sense.

Anyone got Neeld's email?

Thats pretty interesting.....I dont remember Geelong having many training injuries actually, well none that stand out. Implementing this sort of thing is smart.
