That person who was complaining earlier in the week about the MFC not having time trials now has his/her wish granted. The club is having time trials tomorrow (Friday) at an undisclosed venue. A few players are tweeting about them and I'm getting the feeling that Sam Blease might not be looking forward to them as much as would his old mate who nicked off to Sydney.

Still, how tough could it be? For mine, I'd rather do a 10 or 11 minute run than a two hour training session (no I can't do 3k in that time but it's what I would expect from most AFL players).

Anyway, that's about all they're doing tomorrow.

The next open training session is:

Casey Fields - Monday 16th January - 9.40 am

(60 Berwick- Cranbourne Road , Cranbourne East)

^ Brilliant!

suggestions on twitter that blease needed to do under 11. probably a fair assessment for him....

still, times should be interesting. would love someone to beat a certain little liars time of 9:37

Blease needs to take a leaf of the Gys' pre-season work. Has improved since the start when he and Blease were at a similair level, now Gysberts has moved up one group, Blease still in the last group. The results will be interesting, Tom Mcdonald is my smokey btw.

Its very easy to say he should be doing as well as Gys.

It's not a surprise seeing him behind others being a speed athlete and given his injury history.

It does sound though that he has made some improvements and is putting in at every session.

The players need only be focussed in improving their times and we shouldn't compare. If you start to compare time trial results between players and say Blease should be with Gysberts, you then need to say Gysberts should be as fast as Blease. If Sam Blease and Gysberts can come out and knock 20-30secs of their last time trial result I'm sure the club will be happy with both.

I hope the guys have improved their times, but lets not get too carried away with time trial results and preseason form in general. Last year it was Maric and Old Dee's mate #7 who were burning on the track and they had underwhelming years.

Seems like the new training regime is having the desired effect if Magner's tweet is anything to go by:

"Well done to all the @melbournefcboys who had the 3ker this morning! plenty of pb's amongst them!"

Long time lurker, first time poster.

Was driving by Princess Park this morning and saw the boys out training so stopped for look. They had just finished the time trails with half the group do handballing drills while the other half were running warm down laps of the park.

I had a chat with some training staff, but unfortunately they were tight lipped on the finishing positions and times.

Sounds good.

Is that a 3.2km trial?

I like it that they kept the results private.

Blease : is a burst player, broke leg in half, first full preseason.....expectations of sub 10 are ludicrous.

I don't know if you realise Mordja, Blease didn't break both bones. The Main bone (Tibia) was fine. He only fractured the (Fibula) but because it was down low in the ankle joint, & that it was a 'compound fracture', is what made it more sinister.

Nothing like Strauss's.

Anyway just checking, not sure if you knew or if you were exasperating. LoL.

Cheers, I was being flippant out of frustration Dee-luded.

Also appreciate the measured correction rather than the 'OMFG you got that wrong' that normally goes on ! :)

My point was that surely we want Blease today better than Blease 3 months ago and expecting him to run side by side with our top half dozen runners just isn't happening.

Mordja, Blease will never be in our top half a dozen runners just like Jones/Gysberts/Trengove will never be in our fastest half dozen players. As long as he can keep improving and maximise his endurance be happy. As mentioned you don't compare player against player you assess a players development and improvement on their own historical data. I would be extremely disappointed if Sam is fully healthy if he didn't beat his last time trial result. This would be the same for most of the players on our list including the top runners.

I think that's exactly what Mordja was highlighting.

It's not a matter of Blease or Gysberts making the same time. They are different builds at different stages of development.

If both create a pb or close to it, that is cool.
