I am an MCC/MFC member. I haven't renewed MFC but will soon. I rang them to see if I could swap the 6th scarf in a row for a cap which would be of some value to me. Many other clubs do caps instead of scarfs. I mean how many scarfs do you need. I live in Sydney and a cap can be used all year round. They said no but if I "donated" the scarf and the rest of the membership pack to the club I would get a $25 gift voucher which I can use if I spend over $50 at the demons shop. It really annoyed me and put me off renewing at the time. I still will before the season but the attitude sucks. I live in Sydney and the MFC full membership is a donation I make every year to support the club without getting any benefit. What does it cost them to swap the scarf for a cap.

First congrats on being a member while living interstate.

Second I don't wan't to nitpick but it would cost to swap a scarf for a cap. Those scarfs they give out are extremely cheap, ordered in massive bulk and probably cost a few cents each made off shore. The caps are far more expensive. If everyone did that we would lose a fortune.

I understand your request and while reasonable if everyone interstate or in the country did it you could imagine the result.

That said they should have explained that to you and maybe offered something else.

I am not knocking you just trying to explain their point of view and costs involved.

Redleg I'm pretty sure a mass produced cap made in Asia would also be "cents". Certainly the difference would be "cents"

the freight etc costs would not be any greater

like the scarf it would probably be of slightly less quality than the official shop version

its about time the club offered an alternative to the scarf and the cap would be a good choice

That's another issue. It's Time asked about swapping now. Maybe you could send the club an email and they could make half hats and half scarves next time.

Just rang and signed up my 4 month son.

Nathan Jones took my call and was a really nice guy and spoke for a while about all things Melbourne. Spoke very passionately about where the dees are heading.

32, 595. Not much growth in the last couple of weeks...for obvious reasons. Hopefully a win over Richmond today and the addition of Webjet will help the number continue to increase.

Alas poor GTG I knew him well!

Buying a MFC membership is more of a donation. That's how I justify it. If was expecting value for money I would not buy one. Sad but true!!!

I am astounded we have got to 32595

I had no idea there were this many masochists in the community.

Jokes aside this is a good number when you consider the way we have played over the last 6 weeks.

You mean 33146.

I know you are the eternal pessimistic optimist but we would have a few more to sign up if we could eke out some good footy.

So we have roughly halved the deficit? I have the feeling that the turmoil we have experienced as a club over the past few weeks my encourage more lapsed members or people toying with the idea of first time membership, may now sign up... I know I finally took out my membership a few years ago when things were looking very dark for the club, as I thought it was important to get the MFC off its knees.

Funny you should say this, as this despairing start to the season has actually compelled me to "buy in" (hate that term) and get behind the boys. Joined up last night on an interstate membership.

was listening to radio tonight leigh brown was on and they were saying we have 33500 members signed so hopefully thats true

Most likely. Current tally has the club at 33,267 members. Will easily surpass 2010's tally of 33,358.

Another 3,000 odd to pass 2011's tally. Go close.

Surprised we have got that close given the circus that gone on around MFC some of it the Club's own doing.

35K + is well and truly on the cards. And that's a pretty good result in the greater scheme of events* in my opinion.

We're a chance to surpass last years, which would be a great achievement. 40K is a long shot from my POV, has been since late Jan going over comparisons.

On a lesser note that we can keep an eye on, StKilda is currently on 33,002. Last year I recall we were neck and neck through March and April, much like this year. Until they drew away late to finish a couple of thousand in front. Maybe this year will be different ?? Would be good to knock another team off finally other than perennial teams in the Bulldogs and Kangas the last couple of years.

Bump

Don't have an update for April 27, 2011. But...:

April 27, 2012 - 34,093

April 20, 2011 - 34,548

May 5, 2011 - 35,205

And out of interest - StKilda current tally: 33,617.

With our current membership at 34,000. I have no doubt when this team gets its act together and starts winning games, we can pull good crowds. People like the MCG.

I believe the MFC has more support out there than figures suggest.

34,000+ is outstanding considering how the last 4 years have played out.

And people still think we do not "buy in"

Rubbish. Demons are Tough.

Can someone correct me, i cant remember a membership launch this year. I know the slogan was put up (cant remember what it is) maybe that was the club launching it membership drive.

Its sad coz i can remember the media talking about StKilda's launch with their advertisement with Siant supporters lining up on the beach. Maybe it was on Foxtel which i dont have.

Was there a launch or membership drive? or was that it. Either way, it was unadventful for me

There was a membership night last week where the club had players call non members to re-sign if that's what you mean.

But I haven't seen any push or ad launched on tv like other clubs have done. If that's what you're alluding to.

Aside from that the club has volunteers do a few nights of calling up those who haven't yet signed. I think thats happening soon.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
