I don't care if he isn't fleet of foot, Geelong's mids have space and time because they have great footy IQs, not because they have foot speed.

But maybe that is a few years down the track for Luke.

I salivate at thinking of what he might become. One of the very few positives from last season. Has to polish up on doing the unglamorous chores and not try to be the big game hunter all the time.

It's easy to be 'bullish' about Tappy. He's an old-fashioned, hard at it, show no fear footballer, and he made a very good start to his career in what was effectively his first year. I'm really looking forward to him getting a full pre-season under his belt under the eye of our new fitness staff. Improved endurance and a bit more acceleration, combined with his strength and penetrating kicking, could make him a ripper. It will be fascinating to see what role Mark Neeld has in mind for him.

It will be interesting to watch and see just how MN goes about player development.

Does he follow the convention and let Tappy serve time as a HBF long term, or is his style to throw him in right now if he sees his ultimate role as a mid? He certainly has the body to cope right now and I must say I would be pretty confident he would do well there.

Lot to like about this guy. But I would want to see more football smarts shown next year as he matures. Has some great weapons but has to learn how to use them thoughtfully and constructively.

What many don't know is that one of his greatest attributes is deadly accuracy for goal. In his first year for S.A. he was a very successful forward pocket goalsneak and in his second year he kicked some wonderful long goals from the boundary line as a hard working half forward in the Paul Chapman mould.

Disagree - I think he's already played in the perfect position, where his greatest weapon (his footskilss) can be used to full effect.

With Strauss and/or Blease back there, we have the elite disposal out of the D50 that we need.

I think his height and footspeed might make it difficult long term in the backline.

And a HBF is the easiest position on the ground - I want to see whether he can do something more with his career.

600 or so Aussie rules players in this country and you pick Campbell Brown?! You mean if he can be a talentless thug who plays the man first and the ball second you will be "ecstatic?" Nope. I have much higher hopes for Mr Tapscott!

What rpfd said is perfect. If he can take on a Sylvia style high mid forward player Tapscott will be most damaging. HBF is for those who have flair and are fleet of foot. Tapscott is a wrecking ball with a sweet foot on him. Will create havoc in this position.

His disposal by foot is sublime, but I thought his greatest weakness was his defensive accountability. I think it was against Adelaide where he drilled a beauty from outside 50. Aside from the fact the opposition was essentially non-existent that day, was an absolute gem of a goal. I definitely think the Chapman comparison is suitable.

Seems to lack the tricks to play in the forward line, not strong overhead and lacks speed and agility to play a crumbing role - I can't see a future for him there even as a defensive forward. He is a good kick and I see him in the backline if he can make the cut. He's over-rated because we've had a lack of hard big bodied draftees. He hasn't had a pre-season yet so it will be interesting to see what he can do on the back of proper preparation. Will be ecstatic to be proven wrong and for the love here to be justified.

Plenty of time to develop. He has an AFL body and is silky by boot. I think the rest of the tools needed to carve out a good AFL career will come with more games.
