He was not a marquee player and neither Melbourne nor any of the other AFL clubs could have stopped him from going to GWS. The AFL saw to that. Geelong couldn't keep Ablett and the Dogs couldn't keep Ward. Yet Denham and his apologists single out Melbourne and Melbourne alone as they do over the tanking which was carried out by at least half a dozen other clubs. Yet Denham and his apologists pick on only one club and rub it's nose in it.

Scully was on just about every piece of advertizing material put out by the club. He was a player we were building our future around. He was a player who gave supporters hope and excitement about the club's future. That's how I figure.

Yes we lost him. No we couldn't do anything about it.

But we lost him when many others chose to stay at their club. You reckon that makes us look good?

I certainly know far more about the club now than i did under any of our previous administrations. Granted social networking has helped that, but i still think the club is now far more open with the members. I mention the debt Rhino in some ways because you often try to dismiss it as not such a big deal. IMO Debt reduction and realignment with the MCC are the back bone of our survival. Look at the stadium deals of the docklands, with free agency next year North, Footscray & St.kilda could all be in Dire Straits within 5-10 years if they have to continually write cheques to Etihad shareholders.

I dont dismiss the debt. I understand it and I know what it means. It was an important issue to address. You clearly dont and seek to put an emphasis or a view on it that detaches from reality. The Club certainly isnt any more open about itself since this administration came in. We as a group were kept horribly in the dark in the week leading up to 186 and we were left in the dark in the weeks after it. The debt reduction has been and gone. The backbone of the Club should be an effective business model which we is sustainable and an on field team that is successful. We are not there yet. And as the high jump bar for running a football club gets higher and higher we are not that far away from financial difficulties.

Well I reckon that it implies Bailey was not a serious coach. Might be just me. Either way is was a very inappropriate comment. If you can't see that I can't help you.

If you interpret what Stynes has said in the way that you have then sure, it's probably inappropriate. Personally, I'm just taking the words for what they say, not reading into implications about an unmentioned former coach that may or may not be there. If that means I require 'help' that you apparently cannot provide then I can live with it.

Bailey was a good bloke but everyone bangs on around here about how for two years we tanked and if that's the case then he wasn't a serious coach and certainly not as serious as what we have now. That's a fact and I think it's poor form for people to bag Jimmy for talking up our new coach. That's exactly what he should be doing IMO.

The fact is that MFC lost a No 1 pick does not look good period...It would not look good for any club. That's the point.

Confirmed wrong. The tanking issue does not stop with the Coach. And its naive to think another coach would not have been part of it. It made perfect sense to maximise draft opportuinities. If we had Neeld in the same situation i would be ropable if we ended with 5 wins and not less than 5 wins.

The fact we lost our number one draft pick to the new AFL Franchaise squarely puts the bad look in the AFL's corner. Does Geelong look bad for losing Gary ablett. These new clubs take whatever they want, that interview with Gubby Allen mid year confirmed that. He was laughing all through it.

The issue is should we have tanked so hard to get that pick in the first place, when all clubs knew what the new rules were.

I've just realised what an ordinary operation the Geelong Football Club is. They lost Gary Ablett Jr. They couldn't convince 3 time premiership ruckman Brad Ottens not to retire. They were nearly broke until they did a cosy stadium deal and their fitness bloke nearly destroyed half the team till they sacked him. That Thompson bloke was pretty ordinary the way he shafted them too. And I heard their president talking about how good a coach Scott is.

Frank Costa sounds more like Marlon Brando every time i hear him on the radio!! Seriously nice guy tho, although you gotta be real smart to prosper in the fruit & veg trade. They run their own rules at those markets.

There is no doubt we have been poor on the field over the last five years. There's a fair argument that for many of the past 47 years we've been ordinary on the field. And IMO the Bailey sacking was handled terribly.

I've got no problems with an opposition supporter telling me this because it's true.

But Denham's comments go beyond this. His constant focus on Melbourne and his repeated negative generic comments are vindictive. He has it in for the MFC for some reason and can't get enough of sticking the boots in at every opportunity.

Can I cop a bit of stick from other supporters? Of course - you couldn't be a Melbourne supporter without having a thick skin. But do I have to listen to Denham making ridiculous comments like "I'd be embarrassed to be a Melbourne supporter" and "The MFC stands for nothing" and then justify it by saying, 'yeah, we have been ordinary for a while, he's pretty much on the money there'?

No way. I'll never be embarrassed to support Melbourne.

Yes i have heard similiar stories via close mates who worked at Footscray market at 3am each day. It is a different world at that hour. I hope Frank puts his stories on paper because he is an inspirational guy in his own way.
