In his sixth year of senior AFL football, the Demon tall defender found himself well down the pecking order in a defence that contained the likes of Frawley, Garland, Rivers and Joel Macdonald and was shunned by selectors after the team's Round 10 loss to Carlton. Starred at full back in the VFL but it wasn't enough for a recall and he requested a trade at the end of the season.

That Carlton game killed his career at the club.

A serviceable nothing special player that won't be missed. Highlight was keeping Barry Hall goaless last year. Warnock should've sought a trade at the end of last year.

Warnock is an honest footballer who gets the most out of himself, but is outside our best three or four tall defenders ......... and IMO he is likely to be overtaken by a couple more in the next 12 months. He seems to get to the right places most of the time, but the next step lets him down far too often at the top level (as distinct from the VFL where he had another great season for Casey). He is apparently seeking a trade, and I hope he gets to a club that will afford him more opportunities than are likely at Melbourne. There are arguments that he should be kept as a 'depth' player, but I don't buy that. If we can't arrange a trade, I'd be cutting him free to take his chances in the PSD.

He's too scared to make a quick decision with the ball. I'm okay with players being poor disposers of the ball (as long as they have other talents) if they are quick enough in the mind to give the ball up to those with better skills. Too often he hesitates, retreats to the goal-line and proceeds to have his kick smothered or put out on the full.

Gone.

The subtle changes to the game, bringing back the focus on contested marking, has given him a lifeline.

We should be able to get something meaningful for him, even if it's just a pick upgrade.

In his defence that's often because he's being given nothing to kick to. Warnock is a serviceable AFL standard full-back. Very much a one position player. He's just unlucky that he plays a position where the club is well stocked. I hope he finds another club & does well. Think he'd be great at GC helping out Bock until some of the younger Suns defenders mature.

Can see a Warnock and pick 60 for pick 57 sort of trade here...

I would rather lose him for nothing than agree to that. Dermie said he would walk into the Hawks backline. How can a player who can possibly do that be worth nothing?

Warnock for Bruce.

Lolz just kidding- Bruce is a [censored] player.

In all seriousness if Dermie thinks Warnock can walk into the Hawks backline then he could easily walk into the saints. Tell me GWS wouldn't be interested either!

Package him with a compo pic or two to those GWS flogs for that Omeara fella. I said before we shouldn't trade with these bloodsuckers but I was upset then. It's back to business now.

I have nothing against Warnock, and reckon he'll be a handy addition to another club looking for someone in that role. He was just unlucky to be here at the time that a couple blokes really came good. Honest footballer and I hope he gets a gig elsewhere. Reckon he'd pull a decent bid at the trade table.

We have a new coach who believes in 'roles' rather than players. The interview will be interesting: I feel he may think that MW has a role.

It is a bit premature for us all here to say what Mark Neeld will think: I will trust him. He has enjoyed success at many levels and I am sure he won't keep anyone on just for sentiment !!

I believe he did, but was told he was a required player.

Thanks Matty for your games and service to the Dees, and the selfless ways you've handled your time at Melbourne. You've worn the Jumper Proud.

Cheers to you & your future.

A very honest footballer who always got the best out of himself and gave his all for the team. He is certain to make the most of his new opportunity, and will add considerable value to the GC line-up at this stage of their development. Good luck Matty.

If we had not been so lucky with drafting Frawley he would still be on our list and probably have another 50+ games under his belt. He gave us his best, and he will have plenty of opportunities over the next 3 years at the GC Suns. Good luck to him!

yeah, he needs to learn how to relax and think when he gets the ball, hope he does well, he wasn't going to get a game with us because our backline is in a good position

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
