NEW COACHES

I posted this in the Neil Craig thread, but this is how I read it;

"Neeld said there would be at least eight full-time coaches at the club next season, which “stacks up very well with the best clubs going around”.

So I make the organisational structure (in terms of who they are reporting to) to crudely look something like this:

MFC Board

\/

CEO (Cameron Schwab) / Football Director (Lyon (for now))

\/

Director of Sports Performance (Neil Craig)

\/

Senior Coach (Neeld) / Elite Performance Manager (Misson) / General Manager Player Devt & Strategy (Viney)

\/

Backline Coach (Rawlings / Midfield Coach (Royal) / Forward Coach (yet to be apptd??)

\/

Backs Asst Coach (?) / Mids Asst Coach (Greaves) Devt Fwd Line Coach (Satterley)

And also:

General Mgr Club Devt (Connolly)

Football Manager (Mahoney)

Developement Coach (O'Donnell)

Innovations Coach (Dunbar)

General Manager List Devt (Harrington)

Recruitment Manager (Prendergast)

Who i dont know where they fit in in terms of who they are reportable to (as the above would be).

That leaves forwards coach and assitant to backline coach vacant...

I think you have the org. chart you stated above. However every line coach will have an IT person as well.Neil Craig confirmed the above on air (AW) tonight.

I don't know if it's just the yearly off season feel good kicking in, but I have to say I'm liking the smell of what's cooking at the club at the moment.

Fingers crossed the meal turns out as good as the smell wafting from the kitchen.

Absolutely!!!

I like the transformating of our Clubs Leadership structures...

Next: the Captain & players.

I'm sure there will be a clear structured OBS with clearly defined roles.

One thing I like the word professionalism being used over and over again by our new additions.

What I wonder is what impact the Andrews Report has had on this restructuring?

Surely it hasn't all come from Neeld himself.

But then again, we shelved that report and ignored its findings, didn't we?

Didn't we?

Caro...?

Well said, was just thinking the same thing myself.

Wow.

I thought it was too good to be true, didn't believe it til I heard it.

NC on 3AW just confirmed each line coach will have an assistant coach, and also an IT guy.

Talk about heavily resourced.

This is cutting edge compared to what we had, maybe compared to any other club.

Leigh Brown possible defensive coach of 2012

http://www.sportsnew...h-at-melbourne/

Discussions have well & truly taken place but IMO he is most likely northbound due to top offer .Would really like him at Demonland though. The forward coach intrigues me with no insight at this stage. Trying desperately to find out though.

The one thing I take from Hagdorn's article, is that the assistant line coaches are to have a role at Casey too.

They will act as Gotch's line coaches.

This may in fact circumvent the issues we've had in not having our own VFL team rather than an affiliate in Casey's case.

The assistants will be able to ensure the correct message is getting across and that it is consistent with what we want to employ at AFL. It will streamline the step up between the 2 levels.

Can only be a good thing.

The only problem I see with this is your hypothesis stems from a Hagdorn 'scoop'...

The guy is guessing, and you are guessing on his guessing.

If anyone guesses on your guessing from his guessing we would enter a 3rd level of guessing and risk being stuck in limbo...

Fair call rfpc.

I was *this* close to editing the post, prefacing it all with a disclaimer, but didn't bother.

Bust surely if he is correct, then it would have the same effect as actually having our own VFL club, without the added cost and liability.

Forward Coach Barry Hall. Would put some sh-t into them and knew how to play the position. We could then draft Fev and he could warn him one misdemeanor and he would knock his block off.

Seeing that Fev is going down to Warnambool to visit our former boxing coach - Ryan.. both maybe able to join Demonland as Forward/Boxing coaches.Barry would certainly harden them up,this would suit Neeld.

I like the idea of Brown to the Dees... A good thinking head on that shoulders. I think the Neeld connection might pay off here ^_^

Honestly..who would really want to go to the Garbage Wanky Sh!ts !!.....well anyone with taste that is

Is anyone else a bit disappointed that we haven't announced any new coaching appointments in the past 24 hours?

Not sure if you're joking, but I have come to expect announcements every few days and get disappointed if there isn't one! Its going to be a loooooong offseason.

Was actually thinking a bit about the coaches to be named today while waiting for beer in the bullring at quarter time...

Although I nominated Leigh Brown and Brady Rawlings as defensive development coach, looking at the other 2, it is more likely to be someone that has some experience in developing juniors.

Probably someone the majority have not even heard of.

Mooney would be another handy one as well.

I hope whoever we go for that they bring some physicality to the Dee culture.

And our Forwards. I'm sick of people whinging about Us being beaten Up. It's time we did our own Heavy work.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
