I think Mark Neeld will have an amazing impact on Nathan Jones...

Jones is a tough, fitness freak with average disposal and average understanding of the game at this point.

Seeing the wonders Neeld worked as midfield coach of Dane Swan I can see Jonesy being Neeldy's "boy" and helping Jones take the next step as an AFL player.

Again , he seems to have a history or player-whispering

Nathan's downfall often is not the quality of disposal, but the logistics of it. If he can find a clam and a confidence to weave that extra second ( or part thereof ) to weigh up a better off-load he will take huge steps. A little less crash bang and a little more poise.!!

Left-field suggestion, but I'd try Bartram in a forward pocket.

Like the thinking but Bartram just can't kick.

Jake king is a scrubber kick too but for some reason, he wobbles them straight.

Bad kicking for goals kills teams. Think it was the weagles game when Bartram missed 3 easy goals when he was streaming in 35-40 metres straight in front.

Ive no problem with the notion of role players etc. All players are not elite, all have a role to play. The supposition is thus as simple as many are going to rate our players higher than they ought to be, irrepsective of the nature of them, irrespective of their role etc , many just arent as good as some suppose .

In this they will, when looking at the put this player or that player in position. What Im saying, is I think Neeld will not be so quick and he has already intimated this by suggesting there are quite a few holes.

Your talking to the wrong bloke Fan if you think im concerned over Scully going.. The most overhyped player weve had on a list in years. Good but not what many suppose. Anyhow weve done him to death...hes history.

So in summation...to simplify.. I know we have players who might be say.. A B or C level..having different roles. What I suggest is that many of the supposed A's are really A- or B that the B's are B- or C level etc.

Neeld will want them better..whatever role they have to play

BB I have been saying your last paragraph for the last year.

We should all remember that we finished 13th, had a 186 point loss and lost a lot of games by big margins.

Neeld has the job in front of him.

I'm not sure he'd be the one taking many shots for goal.

It's more the pressure he'd apply and the turnovers he could create right infront of goal.

& Bartram wouldn't have to worry about the complexity of needing to choose an option - he'd just need to keep it straight .

Missed about 6 goals during the final 3-4 games while tagging, wouldnt say he has none at all, but Bartram has obvious faults, mainly his Kicking, and decision making

I still cant understand why some are so hung up on a need for a big forward. If one is there grab him but we have enough fire power up forward to win matches if we can get the ball in there. That is our problem we don't get the footy inside 50 enough and with the quality that is required. We need players that can run and carry the footy and more importantly hit targets. We need to add speed to our midfield. With Jamar and Martin playing the resting ruckman can fill the big target deep inside 50. Not many teams wil be able to stop a forward combination of Jurrah, Howe, Watts, Green, Petterd add in the ruckman and we have a good set up. The forwrd line is missing a real crumbing forward that can apply pressure with in our attacking 50,

I think we also need small-mid size defenders our tall defender stock looks good. I would like to see Taspcott played as a midfielder/forward, Blease as a wingman and Grimes in our midfield that will leave Macdonald, Bartram, Strauss, Bennell, Nicholson, Bail to fill this role.

Possibly no right or wrong..... just a difference of style in regards te makeup and game plan.

Some teams work to a big tall bloke others utilise a more mobile multitasking type of attack.

Agree, but either way Neeld wants us to play, I think we have the flexibility with the players on or list, and don't think it's worth sacrificing high draft picks for someone like Dawes. I just think we are 2 years from having the "ideal" forward line, and believe we need to finalise getting the guts right.

Great point. I would suggest the only non-negotiable players right now are:

Moloney

Jamar

Trengove

Watts

Garland

Frawley

Possibly throw Jones in there as well.

They are it in terms of that top end. Even Moloney goes missing though. Everyone else has scope for step up or step out.

Yes, I know, there's another 38 names or so who aren't on that list, but those 38 all have some sort of niggle to their game that has them shown up.

I'm not saying that's the be-all and end-all for the rest of the list and we need a total rebuild. Not at all. What I am saying though is that there is scope for improvement, but also scope for culling if need be.

I think you've pretty much nailed it - might add Sylvia (though please some consistency) & McKenzie, with Watts & Martin as fast comers

Even players like Jordie have gaps in their game, kicking, and that he doesnt do it enough, let alone the quality of it

And non-negotiable's dont think there are many at all on our list, especially in the eyes of a new coach

The likes of Blease, Strauss, Howe, Gawn , Fitzy etc are still projects in progress

All others obviously have something, but what. The up and comers probably have more to learn and inprove upon than the likes of Bate and Dunn etc

Some are for the scrap heap theres just no other nice way of puting it. Some will carry through this year as the powers that be can only churn so many and a few still retain that enigma qulaity about them.

We apologise for not knowing your track record of predicting good positions for players...

Batram can be a defensive forward.

But he will not be dangerous in the slightest when he has the footy.

He can play that role, but others can play it better.

Agree. There is probably a role for Bartram in a struggling team ..... but not in a team seriously challenging for a place in the top four.

Every player at Collingwood is a penetrating kick ... same with Geelong and Hawthorn - and West Coast ( even Priddis gets a bit of distance). If Bartram is in our best 22 in 2013-14, then we won't be as far up the ladder as we want to be

I hope you are refering to the structure with our forwards pushing to high up the ground. If we can get quality inside 50's 55-60 times per match we will win more games than we lose. In fact our forward line has the potential to be the most dangerous in the AFL with Green, Jurrah, Watts, Howe, Petterd, Sylvia and either Martin or Jamar resting deep, these guys will be able to kick you enough goals if we can control the midfield. To me we are missing a defensive small forward that can keep the ball in our forward line.
