Just heard from an impeccable inside sauce at GWS that Sheedy is planning to play himself as the sub for the next 1-2 years to inject more experience into the side

and he's meeting Derek Kickett is for lunch - smells like a comeback !

If we still had Jr we would not have had room to draft Tom McDonald?

Junior was a veteran.

We needed to move him on so Bruce could move to his spot on the veterans list.

Instead Bruce dogged us to go play for Box Hill.

If we'd have known Bruce was going to desert us, we'd probably have kept Junior 1 more year, we'd have still had the spot to draft Tom McDonald, and Junior would have realised his body wasn't up to it any more, so we wouldn't have to see this farce play itself out.

Cest la guerre - he likely would have gone there / elsewhere to coach anyway.

Players usually prefer to spread their wings after their playing career ends.

He'll be back.

No.For the slow amongst us who still think Tom Scully is number 31 for Melbourne, the reason the McD situation was bad was because WE STUFFED IT UP. Don't believe me - believe the club, who admitted it.

I think this is a point that people keep forgetting. If it took him 2 months to come back from a hammy, then who knows what would have happened this year.

I was always a big fan of Junior's but i think his body was telling him last year that time was up.

I think he'll be a great developmental coach for the young players at GWS but i'm not sure playing is the right thing for him to do.

In my eyes we couldn't keep both Bruce and Junior - and the decision to move Junior on seemed the right one at the time and it wasn't until Bruce unexpectedly split that the decision itself turned sour. I was disappointed with how the club handled it and that he wasn't afforded the dignified exit he deserved. The club itself has said it handled the situation poorly.

I'm nervous for Junior though. For the same reason I thought the decision (but not the handling) was right at the time, I think he's going to struggle playing footy at AFL level. I'm worried that an already indignified departure from AFL footy is going to be exacerbated by playing when I believe he's passed it. I don't begrudge him the opportunity though and I hope for his sake that I'm wrong.

You are starting to sound like a journo - selective.

Dean Bailey indeed said they stuffed it up - the club stuffed up the handling and timing of the forced retirement - not the decision itself.

Dean Bailey said that given their time again they would have told James early of their intention not to renew his contract for another year but Bailey said that the decision not to renew was always correct.

At no stage has the MFC said the we "Stuffed up by not giving him another year"

To his credit James McDonald has handled it like the gentleman he is.

I think Junior might get a run in a few games and I also think that this is hardly an effort for more publictity.

My bet is that the likes of Junior will be utilised in a very specific mentoring role for 'what's his name', should they appoint him and another young fella Co-Captains. I'm sure we all agree that he's not going to be racking up 20+ possession games.

I wonder what relationship they had at MFC and furthermore to what extent does Jr's signing have to do with $cully.

Absolutely stoked that Junior is getting back out there. I reckon this is the perfect role for him and I hope he kills it up there.

Taking the person out of the equation if we could have a player that still has mileage be on the field and also be an assistant coach, it would be of great benefit to the players.

You could argue that your good onfield leaders should be directing the younguns anyway - giving them advice and direction - psuedo assitant coaches on the ground. But it is taking that leading and coaching role of players one step further.

I could see merit of North Melbourne promoting Brady Rawlings as an assistant coach at the beginning of this year and have him privvy to all coaching meetings and then have him mentor,ooach and direct players in his last year on the field. I wouldnt be advocating this type of coach would be pulling moves but I think a Rawlings type has the discipline to be able to mentor and advise on field.

It is almost back to the captain coach role but your head coach will still be pulling moves,the onfield assistant would only be an onfield teacher.

The only question mark on this is whether there is actual time in play to do your job as a player and be talking to team-mates at the same time.

The decision to move Jmac on may have been a poor one in but it's time to move onwards an upwards with the new talent we have (and more to come with the $ally compensation picks etc).

It's our first 'full' pre-season at AAMI Park with state of the art facilities.

We've finally moved into a 21st Century facility (along with the rest of the club...maybe that was what caused the ructions and we should have kept them apart!) in readiness for an attack on a massive pre-season.

Need at least 2 full pre-seasons here to see the benefits, but once the club settles in here and the young boys start to develop physically and mentally...i believe we'll definitely start seeing significant results. Even this year we've seen it in patches with Martin, Petterd, Watts, Trengove etc starting to build a decent AFL physique/tank and show some real grunt in patches.

With some gritted teeth, determination, a decent coach and coaching staff, and an injection of strong leadership into the board/admin and playing group (Trenners), i have no doubts the MFC will slowly but surely regain it's status as one of the power clubs in the AFL.

Things turn quickly once people start to regain hope and more importantly.... belief. Add to this the taste of more success on the field, and we have ourselves a winning formula.

I see 2012 as a year of consolidation. To finally gain a little respect and better the annus horribillus that was 2011. Particularly with our interstate results and more competitive margins against the top sides.

2013 looms as a huge break out year for this club. It also adds up to the devil's number 6, along with his demon cohorts! Looking forward very much to 2013.

Let me put it this way, at this stage i'm thinking of heading off next year on a sabbaticle in a galaxy far far away!
