Who's left?

Malthouse is obviously no.1, but he will come with baggage in the form of us likely having to pay a lot for him and possibly contract breaches.

Failing that we should move to get Neil Craig as a mentor with either Neeld, Sanderson, or Burns.

The Burns/Criag combination does sounds pretty good to me on the basis that we're unable to land Malthouse or R. Lyon.

It's odd, apart from channel 10 no one else seems to be running with R. Lyon to definatly stay with the Saints next year?

Me too.

And me. All of sudden there's a lot of love for assistant coaches....Neeld, Burns. Todd Viney was an assistant/midfield coach to a premiership team at Hawthorn. As assistant coaches go, he is way ahead of the bunch IMO. He is a hard, competitive bastard who was a captain of this club and played 250 plus games without superstar talent. Put an experienced coach behind him a la Craig or Eade, and away we go.

Do nothing for three weeks, grab a coffee with Malthouse and ask him whether he would like a chance to go out on his terms rather than Eddie's.

Those exact words will enrage the egomanical bastard and he will agree there and then.

A lot of comments here on assistants are coming from media sources - do some googling on each of the names being thrown around - the results may surprise and provide better information on who has the better background to step up to a senior position.

I'm sure the club is in constant contact with Malthouse's management and is well aware of his intent to coach or not.

Who's left IMO if Lyon is a clear no, we know Clarkson is a no, MM I'm sure the club knows whether this is a yes no or maybe, lets take it as a no. We then move onto the assistants as IMO the other experienced coaches are no good. I would love to get Gavin Brown.

Ross Lyon - a very remote possibilit to leave the saints, but one we could generate much hype & interest about, to deflect attention on Malthouse during finals, and give a securtiy blanket to opposition teams searching for a new coach, so they don't rush to snap up the best assistants if we need to resort to them.

Whether intentional or not, it has worked out for us.

That's not to say I'd be unhappy with Lyon, but considering his character, I think he was always a long shot to leave.

Totally agree. Our best bet is by stroking his ego. Maybe throw in that we haven't won a flag in nearly 50 years, the person who brings the next one will be instantly immortalised, etc could surely do no harm in alluring him over.

DD do you really think that the MFC have not had contact with him or his management long before now!

They would know exactly what he wants to do in 2012.

If it is join the MFC then that has to wait until 3rd October at the earliest.

If he does not we will have a coach announced in the next couple of weeks IMO.

Lyon

Sanderson

Viney

Neeld

Eade

These are the only options as far as I'm concerned.

I can't believe people keep banging on about MM. Not only will he not be avabilable next year but I reckon health wise his days a senior coach are numbered.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
