The club will be well aware of Malthouses intentions for 2012. We would have sounded him out by now and he knows exactly what he wants to do next year. Is that coaching the MFC only Mick his management and the MFC will know this. If we haven't announced a coach by grand final week lets say the Wednesday expect Micky Maltshake to be relocating his belongings from the Westpac centre to AAMI Park on the Sunday after the Grand Final.

Wouldn't take him long!! Coupla Boxes....Half an hour...BANG let's Go 2012demon_cool.gif

I know nothing more than the average joe in the street.

But my gut tells me that MM is no.1 on the MFC hit parade and has been since day 1.

IMO the only reason he will not be the next MFC coach is that he may not want it.

All the talk on Lyon has been media driven IMO.

Time will tell if my gut is correct.

Where does he go?

I'd love to think it was us Belze.

But my gut says he stays at the filth and gets paid a packet for doing not much. Effectively a huge long service leave payout with casual appearances around the club to say hello and provide input as required and a little bit of PR.

On channel 7 after the game the other night he was fully suited as 'part of the panel'. This is the first time i've seen him looking like and acting as if he was now a part of their team. At least in practice sense on the night. To me in readiness for a more serious commitment on same panel next year whilst on LSL at the filth.

After that my gut feel is the Toiges in 2013, assuming they don't have a break out year (ie., anything above 9th lol). With us as an outsider IF we put a temporary set up in place....which i doubt we would.

In one word... SLIM

I agree, we need a tough uncompromising coach that's wise to $heedy's

shenanigans. Watching him recruit ex-Port snipers, and I haven't heard but wouldn't be surprised

if Steven Baker is next to be signed, all for the purpose of behind play thuggery.

I feel our boys would be unsuspecting against GW$cavengers. But MM would be wise to it.

whats another year in 47?

Edit: poor arithmetic, senior brain fart

Thank god DC I thought you were suggesting I was going to have to wait for 67 before the goal was achieved.

I was all set to send back my membership as i would not have made it.

Do the ground work of the assistants...Burns, Neeld, McCartney....top notch assistants, and one eye on Malthouse. Given we haven't even short listed yet, having looked at experienced senior coaches, it will probably take another 3 weeks.

The prospect of MM is really helping me cope with this horrid year. It will pale into insignificance if we land him. Just think, 45,000 members, a hard edge to the club, massive media attention and hopefully more sponsorship.

I know it's a less than 50:50 chance, but boy am I hoping.

As long as we throw everything at it, I will be content with whoever we select however.

How about dithering for about 3 weeks?

I want us to sit on our hands - interview every assistant that we can find - and then talk to them again. I don't care what Malthouse's people say and I certainly don't care what Eddie says. He has little power to stop him.

Aedlaide can get Burns, WB can get Cameron, and we can wait to try and convince Malthouse - even as late as mid-October that he can coach Melbourne or he can retire - two choices.

You become irrelevant very quickly and as great as MM has been - a year is an eternity in football and there is no guarantee a club will be available.

If he wants to go out on his terms - rather than Eddie's - then in the second week of October tell the MFC you will definitely coach them.

I want us to dither on this.

Is it possible MM has already flagged his intentions to us? We might not have to wait until Collingwood are done and dusted, we may just have to appear to be.

Malthouse just has to play the Sully card- ie come to an agreement with us, and then lie to all and sundry about it.

I'm wondering, if we have done a deal with Mick and are keeping it hush-hush, why would we still be chasing Lyon? I can't make any sense of it. Unless we want St.Kilda to pay more for Lyon. But what's the point of that?

Then there is no confirmation with Lyon re-signing, just yet, and Mick insinuating that we could make finals next year "depending on the coach" (with a wry smile and a very cheeky grin and wink I have to add)

So much up in the air! I just want answers, this whole season has just been one long wait!

MM is just candy on the outside. In the middle is chocolate. There's no conundrum there.

You never remember the candy on the outside though, when you're done.

I'm not too sure what you're alluding to there..

Are you trying to say Malthouse is an M&M?

IMO Lyon could be the smoke screen to help MM avoid the spot light as was Clarkson.

On AFL 360 tonight Robbo suggested that if MM/Lyon is not available what about L Mathews.

Robbo made the comment that (nut case) (my words) sheeds has lost 12 Kg to get fitter to prentend (again my words) to coach GWS (ie Mark Williams pulling his muppet strings).

LM has lost 10Kg and when Robbo asked why he said to become more healty.

A long bow I know but could be a consideration.

Time will tell and yes its been an extremely long and frustrating season waiting for things to happen.

A bit elaborate putting Lyon through all this just to be a smoke screen for MM LOL has Lyon agreed to be used in this manner? Far fetched, next!

You are drawing long bows all round :P

This is very interesting. Matthews has been out of coaching for 3 years. This is exactly the same amount of time he had between his Collingwood and Brisbane jobs. He is 59 - only a year older than Malthouse. We need a strong leader who can really grab hold of the place. Tactically, he is perhaps a little out of date, but that could be overcome with a decent contemporary coaching panel. I think $1mill a year for 3 years might get the job done. He is currently assisting the Crows with their selection process - maybe it'll get him thinking about getting involved again. Worth a thought!

At this point in time he is just as likely as the rest by the sounds of it :)

Matthews was basically summed up in this article:

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/leigh-matthews-ticks-dees-boxes/story-e6frf9jf-1226137241269

Main points: Develop a strong culture, have the tactical plays done by assistant coaches...more of an Alex Ferguson type of role.

It could work, just would need to be setup correctly. As long a Leigh has the fire inside to change the team/club.

Whilst im not disagreeing, if we were going to go down this route can we save ourselves a lot of cash and let Viney do that. I mean if they are just going to be a motivator and someone else is going to do the crux of the work?

Well it was suggested to me that it could be a marvellous game of smoke and mirrors to act as distraction . The inference was that Mick was in the bag but for obvious reasons and a handshake deal with Eddie we would allow Collingwood their time and space to do thing without distraction.. Sounds good.. but wins a 8/10 on the fanciful scale really doesnt it. Still....stranger things happen in life.

Then theres Malthouse to Melbourne working party ( or whatever) supposedly working behind the scenes.. Its all cloak and dagger stuff...lol. But with a list of the usual suspects thinning there seems to be but one major trophy for the Dees to snare. Have we been payng a clever game of subtefuge... i.e publicly going after coaches who we might have known werent really on the market . Why? This buys time.

I believe in the annals of our club history that 2011 might go down as the Year of the Charade !!

The coaching panel seems a type that would be ratifying an exisiting well credentialed applicant rather than listing/shortlisting interviewing etc etc etc. its allmost as though they already know who it is ? Whilst we as the mere public would not be privy to much offten snippets leak out when the various assisatants go through the mill at a prospective club. Weve heard nothing in this respect regarding Melbourne. Curious that..

I still come back to the niggling question.. If he were to go anywhere.. where . The media is a reasonable suggestion. Certainly curious if hes been attending Dees games ., combine that with a noted interest in our list, an almost freudian narrative involvement in critiquing our game. Could be something...could be nothing.

spose we'll know in a few weeks

funny sense of deja vu

LM is proven in this area and while TV is a great Dees man he is not proven (yet).

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie
