I heard James Frawley on the radio talking about winning our last three games and possibly making the finals. Wonna in today's Age talks about maybe sneaking in. There might have been others too.

I really find it embarrassing.

We have lost 4 in a row, and our losing margin over that period is 91 points. Yet we are already banking on 3 wins?

If we are seriously thinking that way, then we have paid too little respect to Richmond in particular, by thinking beyond this week. If that's the case, we will get smacked.

Less talk, more walk.

I've posted on another thread that given our form we are no certainty in any of the 3 remaining games. Any.

Talk of finals is cringeworthy to say the least. Especially when you're relying on a team to lose their remaining games and you've just come off an 8 goal thumping, a 12-13 goal thumping and a 31 goal thumping !

High Tower is spot on. Richmond is a big test coming of a very solid win that would boost their confidence. Should account for Gold Coast at the G and who knows with Port over in Adelaide. We weren't that convincing against Port in Darwin.

With all due respect to you Sam and HT; prior to last weekend Richmond had only one 1 game since Round 9, and that included losses to Port Adelaide and the Gold Coast. Couldn't really back the Toiges looking at the form guide.

While I admit, our last month has been far from ideal, I'm quietly confident, like the playing group, that we will win the last 3.

The question has to be asked though - why are the players so confident? Did they know that the past 4 were write-offs, but know the next 3 should be certainties? Does this mean they only put in when they know they are going to win?

Posted

Yeah they should be aiming to lose the last three and miss out.

These guys play to play finals whats wrong with aiming for that? You guys do realise players get asked questions and have to answer them, whats wrong with answering honestly!

Agree Choko.

I understand the need internally to keep the vibe positive as it's important for the playing group to be upbeat and keep morale high.

But externally I would rather hear a bit more anger about where we're at rather than towing the party line.

If asked about playing finals, I would love one of our players to reply something like "Finals? We have just come off three big losses including an absolute thumping by Geelong and you want me to talk about finals!? We are solely focused on getting back to playing good footy and competing hard and we are not looking further ahead than Richmond this week. If at the end of the season we make it, then we make it, but with where we are currently at we're not even thinking about finals."

Agree about the external.

Indeed there is something very wrong that we can talk about finals after losing by eight goals.

An eight goal loss should be described by all concerned as unacceptable.

As for internally well it should be described as unacceptable and the poor efforts should be name and described as such and acted upon.

Sylvia back to the magoos with Davey, Bennell, etc.

I think this is a sign of how low the morale is in the playing group, you can see it in there body language they cant wait for the year to be over. I would love to see them pull it together for the finals but the team is too fractured right know and we need this year over as soon as possible and get some stability.

Totally agree with you sentiments .

They clearly feel they have the next 3 teams covered , which could be seen as a positive .

No way do they deserve a spot tho' and will be a perfect example how the top 8 rewards mediocrity if they do sneek in .

FFS i just hope we win THIS week

Richmond are going to have a big win. They will see us as a perfect end of season confidence booster, and we are at the lowest confidence ebb I can EVER remember. No contest.

Highly possible - it has that whiff.

Really? I see it as almost the opposite.

Richmond beat an insipid looking Sydney, in a game bereft of any real quality.

They'll be overconfident.

Whilst our game against the eagles wasn't great, we competed well against a very good side for decent chunks of the match.

I think our boys, rather than being underconfident, will be licking their lips at the prospect of our first win in a while.

I think we'll exert our continued dominance over the tiges, just like North do to us ever time we play them.

A big part of it will be removing turnover merchants from the team.

If Bartram isn't dropped, there is something wrong.

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc. When he’s on song, he’s unstoppable but he did blot his copybook with a three week suspension in the final round. It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield.
