Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The Forgotten Fev (incase anyone forgot):

- 2 time Coleman Medallist

- 3 time All-Australian

- 7 time Carlton leading Goal Scorer

These thing are great, but don’t forget:

• Theft of jackets from a drycleaners in North Melbourne; he was fined $8000

• Involved in an incident at Crown Casino no charges were laid, but he was suspended by Carlton for a week.

• Assaulted a barman during a tour of Ireland in 2006 with the Australian International Rules team, and was sent back to Australia

• Fined $10,000 and traded after behaving inappropriately at the 2009 Brownlow Medal count.

• Proceedings started to sue Fevola for breach of privacy, defamation and misuse of an image for the release of a nude photo.

• Formal police investigation into claims that Fevola had flashed a woman at a Brisbane park during a football clinic.

• Arrested in Brisbane on charges of public nuisance and obstructing police

• 65 days in rehabilitation for gambling addiction.

I really like the guy and would absolutely love him to get another chance, but there is a lot of baggage that I think the MFC could do without.

An interesting proposal.

If we had a strong club culture that could manage him then definitely worth thinking about.

I do not think we have this culture however.

Furthermore the way Howe is coming along, he may be a full time FF next year.

I haven't heard of Fev getting in trouble at all this year. His rehab is a positive step in the right direction. As many of the pro-Fev supports are saying; give him a 2 year contract with clauses that terminate his contract in the case of any misdeamenour. At the moment we have no big bodied forward, with experience, or leadership. Atleast onfield Fev can lead by example and take the pressure of the younger forwards.

on reading the start of this post, i thought.... yeah why not, worked for the Bulldogs with Hall for one who bought a literally slap bang culture to the dogs when he 1st arrived but proved to everybody he still had what it took.

but have changed my mind, realising that this will halt the future progress of players such as Watts, Howe, Fitzpatrick and others vying for a spot in the side, and he would only bring value on the field not off the field which where Hall may've worked well for the doggies.

His misdemenours are a plenty and I actually think he would fit back at Carlton much better than anywhere else as silly as that situation may be.

all the best to you Fev

I did sit there yesterday and think if we had fev we would at leat have a target. But no he isnt worth the risk. What happens in a game where we are getting thrashed next season. Fev just sooks and gives up. I know Fev is a great kick for goal but just remember bad Fev to.

We dont need his bad influence.

Anyone who shows poor behavior, gets Subbed off & doesn't play the next week. It's not difficult. It just takes the Will.

Out: Howe

In: Fevola

How about it folks?

Fev's already getting in the way of critical player development as it is. He'll just be further in the road if he's in the senior team. He's also thirty something. Even if we ignore his off-field antics completely, from a footy point of view it doesn't make any sense.

You're absolutely right! Green and Davey have provided great leadership and skill, I am glad they aren't playing young guys instead of them. Also, you are right it doesn't make sense from a footy point of view. We have big full forward in Green, Jurrah and Watts, WOW, 3 big full forwards, we have the best forward line in the competition.....

Christ.

What's with this 'hindering development' bullocks?

I could just as easily argue that Bate, Dunn, Newton etc are hindering the development of our younger brigade down

at Casey AND for Melbourne could I not?

One could also argue that Fevola is passing on invaluable experience to player's such as Fitzy and Cook and the younger players?

And again, I could argue that Fev makes it harder to retain a spot in the forward line at Casey, meaning the level one has

to be playing at goes up which could speed up development and provide a very competitive culture for the young

boys we have... Meaning we won't have players like Morton playing AFL football in 1st gear... Because kids have had

to 'EARN' their place in the side.... Meaning there would slowly be a shift in culture at MFC.... Wow... Cool huh...?

All these points are plausible.

Please stop this hindering development rubbish. It's a crock of st.

Again I agree with you. Fitzpatrick and Cook are not AFL ready... they will both be decent players I think, but let them develop at a slower pace. We don't need to rush these kids in like we did with Watts. We saw how much crap Watts copped because we brought him in before he was ready, do we really need to do it again?

At least Green, Watts and Jurrah don't make a point of wearing dildos on Mad Monday or otherwise bringing disrepute to their club.

You could, and you'd be right. But guess what? At least two and possibly all three of them will be given the toss come end of year. Already having cloggers on the list is not a reason to add more cloggers to the list.

Given that Fevola will be finished when we're a premiership threat, I just don't see the point. You add risk AND block development for no plausible gain that I can see.

We need experienced players over youngsters at this point.

Maybe he falls into this category, maybe he's a loose cannon that would do more harm than good.

He's what a FF should be. Confident, a little selfish and draws attention (probably too much).

I would, however, feel a little uncomfortable using him in a mentoring role.

Do I have a preference?

No. I don't think I do.

Very true and it is great that Fev seems to be moving in the right direction.

However, Fev is the type of player that needs a specific game plan built to suit him. Spending 2 years structuring a team around getting the ball to Fev means that our forwards never learn to be the focus, take the best defenders, lead from the square etc. They instead learn to play second fiddle to a dominant key forward, not get the hands on experience of trying to be one.

I remember watching Carlton all those years and the game plan was simple, kick it to Fev and everyone else clear out of the way. I just don’t see how this helps our young forwards learn.

Well, considering we have had list cloggers for years and years, I would be willing to throw Fev a lifeline and

give him a pre-season to see what shape he could get himself into. I don't know why you, or anyone else that barracks

for this club would be against that idea.

This club needs to take a flippin' risk right about now I'm thinking. As I have said in my OP however, giving him a

pre-season is no risk at all.

And on the Bate, Dunn and Newton issue. We have no idea whether any of them will be given the flick and given

Melbourne's track record with this kind of thing, I can see us keeping them.

That is true to a point, but there is the flipside in that he could get us into finals contention and that would provide invaluable experience to the younger less experienced players on the list. He would also cost us next to nothing which would mean we have a lot of extra dollars to go looking for a good big bodied forward (something we are definitely lacking) to come in when Fev's time is up and in time for a major push for the flag.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
