Personally I think the idea was right, but the wording was wrong.

Not so much a burden, but I think his attitude could have a detrimental effect on the younger players.

Just my opinion, but I think a lot of people share it.

I wasn't even suggesting Fevola should be picked up, just the comment implying we should be protective towards players instead of treating them more like men. We've done that (to the younger players) for four years and they have turned out too soft. I'm saying we should adopt a tougher shape up type of attitude. And we should stop talking to players as though some magic premiership window is going to automatically open for them. You'd think that all the players have to do is turn up, go through the motions, get games under their belt and before you know it they'll be playing in a grand final. Too much fantasy been going on and not enough tough love reality. And too many supporters are just as bad.

I would bring in a 30 year old pro for a couple of years if the price was right and he was an upgrade on our curent senior players, especially in terms of leadership.

Fevola is a child upstairs.

He would be a burden for our young leaders to handle.

I agree Fevola would be a bad type for all our young skinny kids. Kicked out of 2 clubs! shame!

Anybody remember a chap called Martin Pike,kicked out of 3 clubs I believe Melb, North and Fitzroy. Fourth club strong coach and I believe 3 more Prem. medals.

A preseason, one year contract with tough clauses or another big mature forward from somewhere else at draft time.

Should expect nothing less than FINALS IN 2012, if that means with Fev we should take him (I'm coming around to this idea).

The youngans will still need time to develop, why don't they develop alongside Fev and gain winning & finals experience?

You would have to seriously consider him to take a spot on the rookie list. A couple of ways to look at it;

* We gave Robbie Campbell a spot on the RL, who had a lot of baggage in his own right (injuries). We also had a few developing rucks who he would've been taking their spot, but we still went with him.

* If Fev is at Casey anyway, why not have him on our RL? If he's going to take up a spot down there, we might as well have the flexibility of being able to play him when requried (which I have no doubt would be a majority of the season).

* Given our normal run of LTI, he would be elevated virtually straight away (could come straight in for Strauss). Would however mean that Nicholson and Evans have to wait for another LTI.

* He would give us that structure that I think our forward line needs, especially while Fitzpatrick and Cook are developing.

* It never hurt Carlton when he left, so those that think if our mids will become too Fev-focused, that arguement doesn't hold much weight.

The VFL is the right stage for Fev.

He can run around, kick plenty of goals, keep a relatively low profile, go to the pokies now and again.

He's shown he can't handle being in the AFL.

Errrr what? 2 Coleman medals, 2 AA selections and 7 Carlton top goal scorers would disagree with you. What he has proven is that he has issues with alcohol abuse and what he has proven over the last year is that he is committed to doing everything he can to getting himself right for AFL footy. He's beent to rehab, he's going to counselling; fingers crossed he can keep up the good work. People make mistakes and yes he has made a few, but if you continously kick people down and don't given them another chance to prove themselves then that is same old Melbourne mentally which has plagued us. Look at Barry Hall to the Bulldogs, Cousins at Tigers, Krakouer at Collingwood; I wouldn't say they have negatively impacted their teams but rather provided experience and structure at a time where it was needed. As stated by many before, giving him the opportunity to do a pre-season won't hurt us given he's already at Casey. What hurts us more is spuds like Newton who have shown no potential over their entire career but are taking up spots. Fev is a proven goal scorer, how many current Melbourne players can you say the same thing about???

Edit: He also brings with him 204 games experience (where he scored 623 goals)

Where did I say that Fev is a proven leader.I said his experience would help our young forward line.However, we need leaders- Yes- Fevola is a leader--he can direct, lead, organise and these are the elements of a leader in which I feel he can contribute on field immensely.

31 next year is a bit too old for our side I think. Maybe if we were looking to top 4 next year he would be a consideration, however next year I think we will be looking to continue the development of our players and get some form of consistency into our game under a new coach.

I know it’s a sucky excuse and this year has been massively disappointing with no progress but we are still an extremely young side and I still believe that next year we will take a huge step forward.

I think our average games on Sunday was around the 60 mark. Of the players that ran out the following still have not even reached 50 games: Blease, Howe, Martin, McKenzie, Nicholson, Pettard, Scully, Tapscott, Trengove and Watts. Give these blokes another pre-season and another year playing together as a team and we should be making some real progress. Not sure that adding Fev into the game plan will be of much advantage when in 2 years when these guys are in their prime and the game plan is really clicking he is gone and our team style needs to change again.

Would prefer to build a team around Pettard, Watts, Howe and Jurra forward and have Green and Davey as the older guys in support.

You'd have to be joking- Hall was 33 when he was runner up in the Coleman last year at 33. Neita was 33 before giving it away and by God his body was virtually completely broken down..Fev's is raring to go..

And again, I could argue that Fev makes it harder to retain a spot in the forward line at Casey, meaning the level one has

to be playing at goes up which could speed up development and provide a very competitive culture for the young

boys we have... Meaning we won't have players like Morton playing AFL football in 1st gear... Because kids have had

to 'EARN' their place in the side.... Meaning there would slowly be a shift in culture at MFC.... Wow... Cool huh...?

Campbell is a very poor analogy for Fevola. Chalk and cheese by a mile.

I would have thought Hall is a poor example. Here is a player who has worked himself hard physically throughout his career to take the toll of AFL football. Neitz on the other hand while dedicating himself had a body that really broke down 2 years before he retired. Fevola is fat, lazy, poor attitude and at best living off past glories.
