Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

All of this could have been solved with the signing of Chris Judd a couple of years ago.

Hankook could have put their logo on his cape, wouldn't interfered with the position of the emblem, plenty of exposure there for Laurie's company!

We'd be winning more games, Bails would still have a job, and lots more sponsorship $$ for everyone! Win win!

We let that one get away!

It was not said last night at any time by anybody that the MFC was not without its problems but it was indicated clearly by more than one person that those problems will be dealt with and that they are not insurmountable. Nobody at the club is shirking away from the issues and if the promise to deal with them is honoured we will end up a much stronger club.

Garry Lyon summed up the strength of the club by pointing to how Ron Barassi showed that he cared for his former teammates Noel McMahon as they came down the stairs into the Myer Mural Hall. He wanted to be sure these elder legends of the club could safely execute the set of stairs into the hall at the beginning of the function. Eleven club legends were introduced to the attendees.

Meanwhile, a twelfth legend lay in hospital after undergoing a life determining operation.

I wake up and read some of things that are posted on this forum and I have to wonder whether some people who would describe themselves as supporters of the club really care?

Yes Jack. Thanks too all who helped out, towards making last night happen,,, and the support it generated for the Club as a whole. A big Thankyou.

It was $2.1m over three years and Laurie is a stubborn bastard who can stand his ground on an issue like that if he wants to but the club also is a business that is allowed to stand its ground.

We wanted the emblem - it's our jumper and we got it.

The Hankook logo is one of the easiest to see on any jumper and for $700k a year Laurie got extraordinary value for money over the three years. He should be very happy with his lot - he isn't, and that is his right.

But I am not going to sit here and let Schwab get crucified because of a fight with Laurie.

He's got bigger problems than Laurie...

I work in in the Tyre Industry and feedback I get from business owners who deal with him, very arrogant, hard to deal withoes etc etc.

So this is no surprise, great stuff LD fo if supporting the club but if you cant see the Hankook brand on the Jumper u r Blind!!!

It didn't occur to me at the time, but looking back, the legal implications and the wording of the sponsorship contract, surely must be what lead to Schwab's repeated public insistence that "it is an emblem, not a logo."

Jack Trengove signed until 2015 that is a massive sign of faith I just Gysberts my pants

:)

Research show's that the Melbourne badge situated above Hankook's logo is the main eye-catch.

Perhaps some boffins in a lab came up with that assertion (who paid for said boffins?? De La Rue??) but until I read about all this hoohaa, I had not really even noticed our logo there. If anyone thinks that the Hankook logo is detracted from in any way shape or form, they must surely be kidding. I remember the first time the boys took the field with it on the guernseys, I shuddered. The damn thing overpowers our own emblem and the AFL logo. They may as well have just printed it right across the chest. Now as to whether CS "dudded" DLR on the deal, that may come down to semantics and integrity, but all in all I believe DLR got a good deal, and if he's not happy with it, then I will be more than happy to see another logo on the MFC jumper next season. Hopefully this time it is one that actually fits in with the jumper instead of dragging the jumper along with it.

Now to the point of this thread, congrats to all the supporters and everyone at the club for organising what sounded like a great night. It is good to see that there are people out there who care so much for the club. It is nice to see that there is still depply running love for our club out there. Wish I could have been there, but glad to be able to hear a bit about it on here. Well done all.

I don't give a crap how obvious it is, DLR deserves to get what he paid for and what the contract stipulates.

Nothing more, nothing less.

The fact he is a long time supporter of the club is immaterial.

While I'm much like the bloke in your avatar on these forums I accept that there are those that prefer to shirk expanding upon their view. Imo, they have that right.

If you want to see someone that's prepared to discuss all things happening in the world head over to the General forum where I'm spending much of my spare time handing posters their arse on a plate.

The guy in my avatar wasnt down with shirking...or handling asses...

Your arrogance is blinding you from reality. Not to mention your poor understanding of your own abilities.

Your just treading all over the positives that are happening, and bringing the Club and this site down to a low level.

Anyway carry on at your game, at least your enjoying reading your own twaddle.

I agree, and would be quite surprised if he didn't. As I said, and you originally brought up, it may come down to semantics. If it is related to "emblem" as opposed to "logo" then it would appear he has recieved what the contract stipulates and is being treated in such a way, separate to the fact he is a long time supporter of the club. Fact is that none of us have read the contract, all we know is that the deal has soured. And we heard this from DLR himself, not CS, which makes me wonder a little. A number of people seem to take a rather dim view of DLR in a business sense, perhaps this may have more to do with the breakdown of the relationship.

Therein lies the issue, methinks.

Schwab felt he could dud De La Rue on a technicality, that may or may not have stood up in court.

Technically CS may have been in the right, but he wasn't in the right.

Not good stakeholder relations (which I believe is Neitz's domain, funnily enough).

In the end, it's a cost-benefit analysis...

Was De La Rue already being a pain in the asre and there was little prospect of him continuing on as a sponsor anyway?

Was an opportunity to promote the club's brand too good to pass up? Especially when you can technically justify it?

Was there nowhere else on the jumper suitable to house the emblem? I understand that this sort of thing has been refined into a science, & that it's not something I know well, but I assume the club is well informed in these things. Russell Howcroft would be all over this.

Did CS think he could get away with this because DLR is a longtime supporter? Would he have tried to do it if that were not the case? Did DLR try to have it a bit each way? - purely a business deal when it suits him, a club saviour the other half of the time? (pure & utter speculation)

I'm inclined to think that you want to keep everyone happy, but it's a balancing act.

On what little I know, I'm guessing CS got it wrong this time.

Sackable offence? Hardly.

There are a lot of criticisms accumulating, though.

A deal is a deal. If our CEO tried to squirm around it then it is deplorable behaviour. Not saying he did. But if he did.

Thanks... I think.

I may be wrong, but what I think deeluded is annoyed about, is that I've discussed the issue semi-intelligently and given it credence, rather than dismissing it out of hand and focusing on the positive.

Well, although the positive is great (re-signings, 10 desks raised), it's a pretty much dead issue.

There's not much to discuss.

I prefer discussing and trying to get my head around the inner turmoil at the club.

I'd rather be as informed as I can be, when I go to throw my support behind anyone at the club, CS, CC, DLR, JS, GL, whoever that may be...

A relative of mine went to the Foundation Dinner and posted photos of the night on Facebook, mostly of him looking delirious posing with the players. He uploaded a photo with Jeremy Howe and tagged him, so I guess he must have added him on Facebook.

Instead of blowing him off as another crazy supporter, Howie had the decency to 'like' the photo and after I wrote you're a champion he replied 'Great night with good people!!" Shows he's a quality bloke young Jeremy!

On other news, apparently Scully was there and positioned on an outer table, maintained a very low profile and was mentioned in passing once the whole night. Huge contrast to Trengove, who seemed to be involved in every second presentation, announcement, video etc

Quite a contrast in their approaches to the club and contract. JT is being revered for his and warmly recieved by the fans...no doubt he will be duely rewarded not just by $$$ on his contract but by the higher status he is being elevated to and become a product in his own right which he can leverage off outside the club.

I don't think that's necessarily an indication of anything either way.

I'd think that's just showing courtesy to Scully and letting him sit out of the spotlight so that he doesn't get badgered by questions of whether or not he is going.

On the topic of Howe, I'm expecting big things for the kid, but has anyone noticed his tatts?

Not seen it mentioned on here, and it surprises me a little.

He has Benny Cousins "such is life" style tatts bent around his stomach.

Not sure exactly what it says as I've not had a close look, but the size and font looks similar to what Dustin Martin has on his neck.

Obviously it means absolutely nothing, but I just thought it was interesting to note.

It was a really good night (glad I flew down from Sydney for it, but feel pretty ordinary today as a result).

Other than what seems already to have been reported here, some of my observations from the night are:

- Sylvia and the MFC are not very far apart on the numbers, so fingers crossed we'll get that deal done by season's end - Neita said Sylvia's "the most complete player on the list at the moment"; Viney and McLardy also rated him very highly - in short, the MFC wishes to keep him and it seems Sylvia wishes to stay - phew!

- Max Gawn is very popular with the coaches and the players - he's a bloody tall bloke BTW

- a few players said that, whilst they quite liked Dean Bailey, the week had become a real chore and it was stale during the week - he made them attend the club between 8am and 4pm each day for technical type lessons and it felt like attending school - a few of them said it was awesome to have Viney at the helm - made it feel like a footy club again and they felt more stimulated and energised already - for eg, the players were 'allowed' to have the afternoon off prior to the function and the following morning off - was like a breath of fresh air for them

- it was not said to me by anyone, but I formed the view that, if we get some good results in the remaining games, Viney may be tempted to throw his hat in the ring for the senior gig next year - IMO it would be absolutely awesome if he did as he would be a fantastic coach of this club

- Kelvin Lawrence is a great kid - he may sneak in a game towards the end of the year (despite still being a rookie) - I hope so at least - I sat at his table and no one at that stage had put in a bid for his guernsey, so I bought it (but only after he assured me he'd play 150 senior games for the club)

- there seems to be a genuine camaraderie amongst the players

- there are some massive wraps of Watts and McKenzie (but you all know that)

- Trengove - perhaps enough said already, but IMO this kid is the best recruit we've had in the last decade

Depends on the vision of the club. David Neitz would be a good shout. A good Melbourne man who has cut his teeth with the Mates of Melbourne brand. If they're looking to point someone with experience there are many of solid candidates out there.

You're kidding right?! I mean what do you think a ceo does FCS?

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
