Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

It was a really good night (glad I flew down from Sydney for it, but feel pretty ordinary today as a result).

Other than what seems already to have been reported here, some of my observations from the night are:

- Sylvia and the MFC are not very far apart on the numbers, so fingers crossed we'll get that deal done by season's end - Neita said Sylvia's "the most complete player on the list at the moment"; Viney and McLardy also rated him very highly - in short, the MFC wishes to keep him and it seems Sylvia wishes to stay - phew!

- Max Gawn is very popular with the coaches and the players - he's a bloody tall bloke BTW

- a few players said that, whilst they quite liked Dean Bailey, the week had become a real chore and it was stale during the week - he made them attend the club between 8am and 4pm each day for technical type lessons and it felt like attending school - a few of them said it was awesome to have Viney at the helm - made it feel like a footy club again and they felt more stimulated and energised already - for eg, the players were 'allowed' to have the afternoon off prior to the function and the following morning off - was like a breath of fresh air for them

- it was not said to me by anyone, but I formed the view that, if we get some good results in the remaining games, Viney may be tempted to throw his hat in the ring for the senior gig next year - IMO it would be absolutely awesome if he did as he would be a fantastic coach of this club

- Kelvin Lawrence is a great kid - he may sneak in a game towards the end of the year (despite still being a rookie) - I hope so at least - I sat at his table and no one at that stage had put in a bid for his guernsey, so I bought it (but only after he assured me he'd play 150 senior games for the club)

- there seems to be a genuine camaraderie amongst the players

- there are some massive wraps of Watts and McKenzie (but you all know that)

- Trengove - perhaps enough said already, but IMO this kid is the best recruit we've had in the last decade

Great report mate!!! Posts like this make me love demonland.. great work!

If that's true, and given our recent financial situation... a public flogging would fall short of the mark.

I don't think CS would ever have been re-hired as CEO if deskgate had any truth to it.

Is that the same desk that which had our $1.2m tax bill hidden in the bottom draw and forgotten about until 2003?

Very interesting insight. Thanks for the info Ron, hadn't heard anything along those lines before.

Similar criticisms levelled at Matthew Knights if I recall correctly...

Mind you they were by Matthew Lloyd who is a [censored].

Yeh, but Lloydy also wanted to stay in the goal square, fall over and chalk up 1000.

I also thought very interesting.

WHen you get a 'development' coach they spend a lot of time with young players trying to mould them into the players they ultimately want. The problem is there is no point at which you say "Stop, you have developed enough. Now I'm going to be a tough taskmaster of a coach because you have learned everything there is to know". DB wasn't able to demand performance like a Malthouse would because of his 'relationship' with the players.

It was a criticism I always had of Daniher. Way too friendly/matey with the players.

COudln't/wouldn't drop Yze, RObbo and WHite when it was clear they were underperforming for a long time.

Making the transition is very difficult for a coach. That is why DB (while having been a bit dudded IMO) is probably best to have been moved on. Hopefuly we can get a See You Next Tuesday coach like Clarkson who will demand better performances.

Our players need a rocket up their clacker. They have had enough mollycoddling.

Depends on the vision of the club. David Neitz would be a good shout. A good Melbourne man who has cut his teeth with the Mates of Melbourne brand. If they're looking to point someone with experience there are many of solid candidates out there.

Your solution is David Neitz to be the CEO for a multi million dollar business. And what qualifications does the big Neita have for such a multi leveled position Danny?

I was asking a serious question, your answer was severe left field at best.

yeah the player I spoke to at the dinner said the same thing, very happy to have a little more time to do things outside training etc

Great night well done MFC

Must be a very crucial decision for the football department...to balance training, reviews, one on one chats, theory, and time off in order to get the best out of 44 different personalities.

What experience did Schwab have?? None. He has worked infooty al his life and done a few business courses.

I think its a problem.

Could be, i cannot answer that..i am not inside the doors, but i doubt that David Neitz is qualified...We need a Brian Cook attitude.

Hmm. Good point. I would imagine that a ultra-professional player like Scully would actually relish being at the club 8 till 4, which may in part explain his apparent 'closeness' to Bailey. He might be be turned off by a more 'casual' approach.

However, I also sure that the change would have been implemented by the club primarily to give they players some time to come to terms with Baileys sacking (and probably because Viney wouldn't have had an intensive program ready to roll out even if he wanted to). So I don't think we should read too much into it.

Just to add to the mollycoddling by the coach theory , Brian Royal attended a Bairnsdale fc premiership reunioun a couple of monthes ago and said that we had a great list but that they were being treated far too softly. " Theyre too soft on em" were his words which i thought interesting as i would have thought he was a big part of the they. Can only assume he meant Bailey.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
