Amidst all the present doom and gloom, a question with an answer to make us proud of the mighty Demons. Since its inception what glory has the Melbourne Football Club achieved that NO OTHER club has achieved? I bet the more senior posters will get this in a flash.

6 Flags against the Filth???

more heartache inflicted on its young members than any other club :(

We are Collingwoods nemesis come finals , well, were. I cant see that being much to hang a hat on currently.

2 hat-tricks.

You are correct in what you say BUT my achievement by the MFC is EVEN BETTER in my opinion. Yes, Carlton, Collingwood and Brisbane have achieved premiership hat tricks but not two.

what does 6 flags against the fith mean?

how long do we wait for the answer Bobby????????

Looks like most of you are stumped on this one. One final clue , we SHOULD have made a record that will never be broken. Thinking caps on please.

7 grand finals in a row? 54 lost to dogs, won 55, 56, 57 lost 58 (gag) won 59, 60

?

I'll pay that 'Benno'.Not sure if we were the only team to appear in 7 successive grand finals though.Do you know that for a fact? The answer I was chasing was that we are the ONLY team to win 5 premierships over a period of 6 years. 5 out of 6 aint too bad. 1955,56,57,59,60. !958 we were odds on and lost to the filth. I doubt that any team will ever match that record.

Gloom Reinstatement fact

That was over 50 years ago...more than 2 generations. The game has changed almost beyond recognition. Half as many teams again.. A national comp.. We just had a Sat afternoon with NO game in Melbourne. !! NONE !!

Bobby, our heritage is wonderful but it gives me no real satisfaction to be the doormats . I dont want to live of a diet of memories and then in many instances none that are mine. I started barracking for Melbourne in 1965 when I first attended school here. Had no idea wed just got the cup. Like many Demons ive had a journey colured more with bitter disappointment and abject embarrasment than teh joys of success. Ive watched teams like Hawthorn grow to poweers , Watched the Cats bully us, put up with cocky BlueBaggers., watched in disbeleif as Victorian teams were almost irrelevant for a decade.

so if you dont mind..other than in history's page accomplishments of a very distant MFC mean all but zip to me today. Im surrounded in my family by Collingwood supporters who take much delight in sympathising with my plight. They cant even belittle me as you might towards a worthy opponent, instead they feel "SORRY" for me.

They say if you cant learn from history youre doomed to repeat your failures. We were a no nonsense outfit back then. Others looked upon us with envy.... not the ridicule of today.

I know you meant wel lwith this thread Bobby...but im over it

It's about all I've got when I'm constantly reminded by a Carlton-supporting mate when he rattles off which years he has seen a flag. After he sings Happy Birthday to me and asks how many candles are on the cake, all I can say to him is that he would want to hope we don't win 1, becuase when we win 1, there are normally 4 or 5 in a short timeframe after the 1st!

It's sad, but it helps!

The sooner we stop looking backwards to the lingering threads of the past the sooner we will move forward.

I'm over hearing about past successes, we haven't won a flag in 47 years and that is damning.

BB I certainly appreciate what you are saying. I guess since I personally witnessed those premierships in '55,'56,'57,'59 and '60 I feel a huge sense of pride in remembering just how mighty we were.( BTW, providence prevented me from attending the '58 GF. Wasn't I lucky here!) I will always remember Ron Barassi's unbelievable skills and grunt, Laurie Mithen's dazzling skills, my namesake, Bob McKenzie with his pace and beautiful torpedo goals whether on the run or set shots. I could go on but I won't. Whilst we have been starved for too long it would be worse if we had no heritage to boast about like the Saints or the Bulldogs. One premiership each a long way back. I personally, can hold my own with my peers who support other clubs. Since I was born; Carlton 11 premierships, Hawthorn 11, Melbourne 10( not far behind the pace eh? ) Essendon 10, Geelong 6, Richmond 5 and Collingwood just 4!!!!! Hope it stays that way. I just thought looking at past achievements might revive the spirits of many long suffering Demon supporters.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
