No problems. Sounds like you might even be a little disappointed if he stays.

Quite the contrary. I have said numerous times that I want him to be a Demon for life. But the way this is being managed leaves a lot to be desired.

Ok ... no problems. Lets just hope Velocity sports thinks he will have the full support of Melbourne supporters. Plus they will stop criticising him for nearly everything he does from being injured to singing the song.

Just appears like some are happy to ship him off for 2 draft picks.

If he has a bung knee I'm quite happy to get two first round picks for him. :P

You make it sound like a racehorse I owned.

Velocity Sports don't give a hoot about Melbourne supporters. They are fully responsible for creating this situation where those that follow our club are beginning to feel indifferntly towards Tom. Prior to them taking this approach, he was adored by all and seen as our prodigal son. They are to blame for the shift in sentiment towards their client.

I hear scwhab said the dees could match the giants offer. Did anyone catch that today?

He also said that a few weeks ago in his interview with OX on SEN.

I hear scwhab said the dees could match the giants offer. Did anyone catch that today? I certainly wouldn't want us to match that.

That would be contrary to what Don McLardy said at the pre-game function. Don't remember the exact wording but the gist of it was that Scully is only one player on the list and they have to make sure they are able to do the best thing to keep the list together and not disrupt our list management for the sake of one player. This was at a "premium members" pre-game function in the Yarra Room I think. He came up after the President's lunch I think and there weren't many people left by that stage but the ones that were left gave a decent ovation.

He also said that Jimmy's had a rough four weeks or so after having his fifth round of surgery a few weeks ago but is back on his feet now and was much better today than he has been recently.

It's not contrary.

Schwab's point was we COULD match a $1m offer, BUT that we wouldn't because it would stuff up our list management completely

Ahh OK fair enough, I thought he was saying we "could" as in it is being considered.

I was talking about that in the abstract.

I am troubled by people thinking that pick 10 and Pick 20 in the 2012 draft will be the same as Tom Scully (I am making two assumptions: 1. We don't trade the picks, and 2. We use them in the next unspoiled draft).

The kids we get will be more speculative and will push back our window.

That's my point.

And that's why I hope we trade those picks, or at least one, for an established player.

Totally agree. The youth policy is done and dusted - if we lose Scully, I'd like to see us add some experience and possibly leadership. We have some great potential future leaders Watts, Grimes, Trengove etc. but they won't develop into the leaders we need without learning from great leaders.

Yup. Before the GWS and GCS entrances, there wasn't a 1 million dollar player... Everyone talked about which one would be the first. Scully aint there yet.

The fact of the matter is if Scully goes what compensation pick will we get??? if its pick 9 for arguments sake it could be anyone with no guarantees on there future ie Luke Molan 2001!

We need a top 5 pick at the very least. lose a gun midfielde r= gain a gun midfielder.

For me Scully to stay

Depends on where he goes & how he gets there .... :)

But I'm like you I much prefer him to stay. Just hope Tom is of the same opinion.

Go Dees.

Yeah, Maybe we could get someone like Cale Morton.

Yeah, Maybe we could get someone like Cale Morton.

Or perhaps someone like Luke Shuey, Dan Hannebery, or Bastinac who were all taken after Sam Blease.

Ahh once again - the joys of retrospective drafting

We will have a bit of cash to play around with and should be able to get a couple of very god players for $500k each. Maybe if we can't breed leaders we can import them.

Who is talking about retrospective drafting? Clearly the point being made is that not all picks will necessarily yield a Cale Morton. Perhaps you don't like balance in a discussion.

I read in one post where you spoke of common sense. It has a funny knack of escaping you.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
