Aussie will be doing it hard for a while, after his and his families great loss.

I'd like to see the MFC help him through these dark times and offer Aussie a one year extention. On the minimum payments that is aloud in the afl, maybe even send a trainer up north to help monitor his fitness through the pre-season.

Aussie is a must keep for mine, hate to think that this is the end of Aussie's career...

I don't think that will happen or is fair. Aussie isn't up to AFL standard. he is a great guy and has talent, but will not get another contract.

I also guarantee that Melbourne will do there best to look after Aussie and his family but gifting him a one year extension isn't right! Hopefull he returns to play footy some where in the Tiwi islands and him and his family are happy but MFC isn't a charity its a harsh business.

I think he is a talent.

Each to their own.

He does have talent, but that doesn't mean he is up to AFL standard. I just hope Aussie is happy in whatever he does, the same with every player.

I think he is a AFL-standard talent.

im all for it for him to stay there for the rest of the year or split his time and have a longer steady preseason for next year, undoubted talent just need to put it together

Super talented but you cant expect high level output with no preseasons, no continuity and the family problems that has fallen on him.

I too hope he takes the balance of the year off and hopefully gets over his troubles and wants to come back fit and firing.

Davey was just on triple M... they asked him about Wonna, said he hasn't spoken to him in 2 weeks and doesn't know anyone else at the club that has. Bugger :(

He needs time alone....that's why he went back.

He was living at the coaches house, so i am sure he knows he is missed. But he had to go home....to find his Father's spirit.

I would as well.

Would it be a decent idea to consider dropping Aussie down to the rookie list next season (obviously would involve delisting and re-rookieing),

I know that sounds pretty cut-throat... but it would probably be the best solution for both parties. It really takes the pressure off Aussie, he's not taking up a spot on the senior list while in the Tiwi Islands, so he can really focus on his mental health and when he's ready to fully commit to footy he can be upgraded back onto the list.

It would obviously be best for Melbourne because we don't have a player who is unavailable for selection taking up a senior spot on the list. Plus Aussie is still a rookie at the club so if he comes back he can always put himself in line for selection as an upgraded rookie

Also in that Davey interview he said that Wonna was only meant to be gone for a week and now its been a month. If Davey hasnt spoken to him in a few weeks than I hope someone else has.

I know its a tragedy about his dad but I doubt he has kept himself in good shape and there is only 7 weeks left so if he did come back soon he wouldnt be playing anyway. How is he contract wise?

Demons contingent will meet with Aussie Wonaeamirri in NT this week. Dean Bailey says they have been in touch over the phone.

Wona won't get back this year and I doubt he'll be back next year .

I hope he's got a smile on his face back at the Tiwi islands .

Me too there is my to life than football.

However the AFL is a brutal business.

Wona has IMO played only a few good games for Melbourne.

MFC has to move on in 2012

Does he deserve a new contract in 2012?

IMO no

But there will be plenty of others who thing the answer is yes.

The worry is that Bailey said he was certain Wonna would be back. Remember, earlier in the year he thought Cameron Bruce would be back too? Does this mean bye,bye Wonna?

He will be face to face with the boys this Weekend in Darwin. Lets hope he comes back firing .Article on the the other demon website about it .

AFL states Aussie is not ready to come home and MFC will support him and have him in future plans. I applaud the footy club for handling this so well. Its not just all about business. From basket case to a leading club. We are headed in the right direction!!!!!!

Is he out of contract?

If so rookie listing for mine if he's keen to continue his career.

Were a football club not a franchise.

He is out of contract.

From a list management point of view our options are

1. Retain on primary list.

2. Delist and rookie

3. Remove from primary list (but we can put him straight back on in 2013 under AFL compassionate rules, if we want to).

I feel for the kid, and you'd want to give him every chance to continue his AFL career if he can get his personal issues sorted out. I think at this stage no.2 would be the most beneficial outcome for both parties.

Agreed IWAP. I love Wonna, and hope like hell he comes back, but unless he can say for certain he will be back for the preseason, or at a stretch next season, it has to be rookie list. I hope the club continue to handle this situation as well as they have and may Wonna be booting goals again soon.

Happy to have Aussie on the rookie list if need be and commend the club for its handling of the situation.

I just think that if he misses the upcoming preseason the game will have passed him by as he currently does not have a fitness base which allows him to consistently provide forward pressure.

36DD I think you have covered it well.

Not so sure I am as considerate as a lot of others.

I applaude our compassion,

but he is taking up a spot on the list.

Out of contract at at the end of the year.

If he does not signal he is serious about returning by the end of August

Then I say Rookie him at best.

Unfortunately winning a flag is very hard work.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
