  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

"IF" and when they do it, they must learn from their mistakes and have the goals face the other way - sun. Or just make a full on dome, permanent in-doors venue.

By then, we could all be pushing up daisies. Sorry dc...

The 4 clubs chained to Etihad Stadium will all be dead by the time that slag heap is demolished.

Wayne Jackson must be so proud of his legacy.

The AFL should buy out the contract today so Victorian clubs can atleast try and make money...!

arguments of equivalency suggest a lazy level of apologia

treat each case on it's merits if you want to contribute, moonie

So, since you seem to be more confident in your knowledge of these than the French security forces at the moment, what are the ‘merits’ of this chain of atrocities, Daisy?

I’d have thought that Moonie’s point is that we might need to get beyond knee-jerk religious labels before the particulars of the Paris attacks are identified and understood. If that’s sitting on a fence, so be it but I can’t see how it’s any more intellectually ‘lazy’ than Biff’s comment, which might be a good one liner but isn’t anything other than that.

Meanwhile, back in the world:

‘The France midfielder Lassana Diarra has revealed that his cousin, Asta Diakité, was killed during Friday night’s attack.

‘Diarra played 80 minutes of the match against Germany. In a statement posted on Twitter, he said his cousin was like “a big sister to me … In this climate of terror, it is important for all of us who are representatives of our country and its diversity to speak and remain united against a horror that has no colour, no religion.”

‘Diarra’s team-mate Antoine Griezmann, meanwhile, said that his sister Maude had escaped the attack at the Bataclan concert hall which left at least 87 people dead.’ (Guardian Online)

BS Dr.

There is intellectual argument.

There is root cause.

There is precedent.

There is my part of Paris.

And there is them.

7years ago I lived near the Bataclan, and met hostility for being "white French"

despite my terrible accent.

It's like St Kilda once was-The Marias- but now the hostile immigrants have decided it was too friendly, welcoming, inclusive, gay inclusive, artsy, drinky or unacceptable.

I didn't realise that there was some sort of competition for owning reactions to this new outrage but if there is I'll leave it to the Parisians to decide.

And merely repeating 'BS' doesn't make an argument or even a coherent observation. You think Islam is a monolith, fine. I'm just glad that those who do the security analysis stuff (whether it turns out that they've missed something again this time or not) have a slightly more nuanced view of the world.

and pray tell me what a throw-away line like "All religions are capable of producing radical followers" adds to the discussion

it's a total non-statement

i never stated any confidence in "my knowledge" of this situation and your reference to "merits" is being disingenuous

nor did i make any knee-jerk religous generalisations

I suggest you actually do some kind of reading or show some kind of attempt to understand what you seek to judge.

These terrorists are no more Muslim than any murderer in the Western world is Christian.

From the Quran:

"Whoever harms a dhimmi (any non-Muslim) then I will be his opponent on the day of judgement" Prophet Muhammad

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
