Yes I know what you mean old friend. We somehow keep hoping that sport and sportsmen and women are clean. However, it has got to the stage where I view any exceptional result with suspicion. In any sport. If you go back in history individuals have been taking performance enhancing substances to aid performance. It's only the type of substance, and the highly organised and systemic nature of it that has changed. However, the history of athletes taking stuff goes back over 100 years. However, the magnitude of illegal usage has simply gone to another level. Australian and Australians are not exempt. That's why I have been careful about condemning EFC when clearly drug use has permeated Footy for a long time. It's just the lying and cheating by those that have been involved and the whole avoidance of culpability that has made me angry. A little like Lance. When you consider what all the other members of the peloton have taken over the years, the penalties for lance have been disproportionate in a sense. There were many others that took the same stuff for as long or longer than Lance who have not been punished or punished as severely. However, Lance lied, cheated and bullied all and sundry. Basically, I think all professional sport is a corrupt business in which there are so many people making a living who have reason to maintain their silence. I love my Demons and will to the day I die but I have no illusions about the AFL or the purity of the game. However, there is still a thrill to see them run out onto to the ground, watch in awe at some of the freaky skills and stand proudly with our fantastic tribe of supporters when the song is sung after a win. And that feeling is going to become more common. But God help me, if the club or any players get embroiled in performance enhancing substances I will walk away and never ever take out another membership. The lifelong love affair will be gone forever.

I agree with  a large part of the above Ernest.

I would add that the only AFL I watch are the games involving the MFC I seldom watch another team.

If something serious were to happen to the MFC like you I would walk away.

Big time international Sport does very little for me in the second decade of the 22nd century.

I've been unable to take the Olympics seriously since they introduced leisure pastimes into the mix.

Golf......really...

Tennis ...Beach Volleyball ffs

I even question the validity of Basketball.

Hell let's even it out with V8 supercars...there's a medal for us .

They've managed to turn the  games into a parody of itself.

The winner is....... corruption  and the dodgy folk running it.

Won't bother me thinks.

Love it Bub somes up my own view perfectly

Come on guys, surely you like the trampolining, the solo synchronised swimming (now that's a double foxymoron as it's not swimming and who exactly is it synchronised against?) and the ribbon twirling thingy at the Olympics?

I am looking forward to the Olympic demonstration sport of women's beach totem tennis this year at Rio. I reckon it will be riveting stuff to watch! I believe we have a pretty good team and are a medal chance but apparently the Latvians and Estonians are setting the standard. Russia won't be there as they have been banned, after testing positive at last year's World Championships, played in Qatar.

Killer heat and humidity in Qatar. Were the championships held in a purpose built airconditioed indoor beach stadium?

Good to see the thread living up to its high standards while I am away. Saw the Lions game on AFL on phone in Vancouver and now in Astoria Oregon and will rely on Demonland for updates of Port game, as we are on a ship bound for San Francisco and will be at sea during the game.

Well that is the footy content you, can get back to more important topics.

Planning to Eureka ?

Any decent electrical goods never last long here Bitters.

You should know that as a recent visitor to our humbled home.

According to that moron Brad Scot, people are 'cowards' for calling out Lindsay Thomas for playing for free kicks.

Cant stand Scott, he regularly uses hyperbole and passive aggressive attacks every single week for the smallest of issues.  The irony is that he is the coward, nobody else.

All the post match talk is very depressing, can we change the subject? Bananas, guava paste sales for instance? Maybe an update on how the Gatt is going? Anything will do.

I've recently found that a combined banana and chocolate protein shake is reasonably tasty - for a glutinous, artificially coloured and flavoured dose of Soylent Green.  But still not too pleased about the constipation effects.  Never experienced that before with REAL bananas and chocolate.

Woops - too much info?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
