Super Jordie - flying tackle

If anyone asks me what sort of effort I want ( read love) from the Dee's each week there is no better example of the tackle from Jordan McKenzie on Dustin Martin in the 2nd Quarter.

He literally flew from the ground like Superman. I replayed it a few times in slo mo to see the look of horror in Dusty's eyes as Jordie flew thru the air at him.

The thing I loved so much is that Jordie was behind a body after an initial contest and seemed out of the this next contest and could have been forgiven for not making that second effort to launch into a tackle. But launch himself he did.

Super stuff - super effort.

I noticed it at the time, and when I watched the Bigpond video it stood out again. Jordie had just been involved in a big pack, the ball spills out to Martin. Jordie jumps over the pack, clings to Martin like a cheap back pack on a bushwalker. He cling on for dear life and would not let go. You could tell he hated the idea that Martin - his opponent - had the ball and was going to get an easy disposal. Serious man love developing for this bloke.

I'd love a team of jordies.

According to the Herald Sun article about Ricky P, our tackling was extraordinary on the weekend. Being able to replicate this week in week out would be a huge step in our development.

Word on the street is that launch tackles are now being looked into by the AFL...

Thought I was seeing things when I saw it on the replay. Great commitment.

I still can't find it... How much time was left on the clock, just to make it easier...

Tough as a $2 steak!

Just as much a star as Sculls or Trenners.

14:28 left on the clock to be exact. Good tackle and all. But kind of a let-down after taking so long to find it.

A couple of things. Just prior to that McKenzie was on Cotchin - got pulled up for holding his jumper.

Just after that tackle by Jordie, Nathan Jones' bump on Nahas sent Nahas through the air. Perfectly executed.

I enjoyed the Jones bump as well - but it was on Nahas, so Jonesy reputation was at stake if he didnt send Nahas flying. ( Imagine the ribbing you'd get if you laid a bump on Nahas and he DIDN'T go flying)

But have you ever seen anyone else leap over a player to apply a tackle so far from where he left the ground?

Good call.

Nevertheless I enjoyed seeing Nahas treated like that, Jones hardly broke stride.

Its no wonder Jordie is such a great tackler, look at the avatar to see him going to a bit of summer training. I pity the lions .

Yeah I mentioned this tackle in another post on the day, what a great effort.

hard to "don't argue" some one when they have both arms and legs wrapped around you, nothing to argue about really.

Once caught a FERAL cat in a trap and put 3 .22 bullets in its head and it still wanted to tear my arm off - so you won't crush your grandfathers cat with one hand that is for sure

Jordie should be in the leadership group soon. His workrate is the Benchmark we need to set.

Yes i know he is young, He can still learn while being in a leadership position.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
