I've read this stupid thread far, far too many times.

RR, you have nothing. Drop it.

Your values have nothing to do with your behaviour here. Truth? To believe footy journalists is an interest in 'truth'? To be caught in the web of popular media is 'truth'...is following a value of 'integrity'? Can you hear the hypocrisy? Truth, integrity, honesty...and you hang with the media? You believe speculation? You are willing to imply 'stuff' about a player with no concrete evidence at all - on the basis of hearsay and self-interest (the media's) alone? AND you say that you value 'truth' and 'integrity'?

Seriously. It is like going to see a stripper but saying that you respect women. Or saying you are a man of science but denying climate change. Or saying you support the footy club but questioning our young man's morals on the basis of gossip alone.

The only truth here is that you value telling other people about your suspicion over 'holding true' in any way to your stated values. You are not digging. You are not investigating.

This whole thread stinks.

Why the hell did I even respond to it?

I don't know, why did you?

You have no right to tell me to 'drop it' TimD. Who the hell do you think you are?

I'll listen to the Mods and abide by their rules, even if I don't particularly like them. But I won't be bullied by an upstart like you who thinks I have no right to ask questions.

I am as passionate and patriotic as the next supporter and I reckon something stinks about what we've seen unfold with the Tom Scully saga this year.

Our own President Jim Stynes has said that the entry of GWS into the competition has "just caused a lot of deception in our game" and that it's "causing players basically to lie --- lie to their families, friends, their mates".

That's a very sad state of affairs but if the big fella is saying it, then I sure as hell believe him.

Whether that is what has occurred here with Tom Scully, I don't know conclusively. But what we've got is a former champion of the club - David Schwarz - coming out and saying that it has. And he's now backed up by a host of journalists who are saying or implying the same thing.

As supporters who invest in and support our club through thick and thin, surely we have a right to know what the hell is going on!

Problem is ... I doubt we ever will.

Dont agree with your examples

I'm sure a vast majority of blokes have either; 1. been to the strippers 2. seen a stripper do a show on a bucks night or at the local footy or cricket club - I dont believe these actions mean they dont have any respect for women?

Climate change is actually not supported by Science. If you google “Historical CO2 levels graphs” it is clear that the earth has naturally gone through peaks and troughs which far supersede those experienced in human history. Tectonic and volcanic activity has been primarily responsible for this and will continue to be responsible as long as the earth exists – just imagine how many Toyota prius’ we need to drive and how many tree planting days we need to have in order to “Carbon neutralise” the toxic ash plume spewed out by the Chilean and Icelandic volcanos? (to name a few popular ones )…

I support the MFC

good stuff, instead of every other thread becoming a scully thread, lets turn this one into something else. i'll get the ball rolling......

CLIMATE CHANGE IS A LOAD OF CRAP!!!......i really mean that.

Keep this nonsense off the footy board.

Can someone fill me in with what was actually said by Barrett? Was too busy watching the Pyrenees...

Just trotted out the same old rumour...that GWS had submitted 4 contracts to the AFL earlier in the year.

Then along the lines of ...one was thought at the time to be Scully's.

Then contradicted himself with something like...they had been reported to have submitted 3 or 4 contracts.

Reading between the lines.. he doesn't know anything. Usual load of speculation based guesswork.

Second. His management. I listened to that radio interview that was linked in a couple of pages back and the one thing that I took from it was clearly they're pretty keen doing a deal. One quote in particular, someone asked him about the offer from GWS and he replied along the lines of 'I would be very dissappointed if he didn't, at the very least, consider the offer.' In fact it seemed like pretty much for the whole interview he was talking up GWS.

Once again I don't believe he's made the decision yet though

As everyone knows I am in the "he's long gone camp" but I also noticed what you have said. I wonder why this carpet bagger manager was not asked what other benefits GWS could offer Tom other than a haystack of filthy lucre? If Tom's not greedy, could it be he has no love or bond with the club?

We are all struggling with the thought of losing Tom Scully. To keep him we know it will throw the natural compensation for players across the whole team out of balance. Many believe the AFL should not have let this unrealistic challenge to have been placed upon Tom, and some can understand the wisdom of him leaving for the money. I don't think we should jeopardise the team culture by trying to hold him if he wants to go. The balance between individual stars and team culture is a delicate one and should be magaged as well as any part of building a new team. The compensation looks okay and may even bring some unexpected surprises. Its flexible use means that we may be able to trade for specific needs as our team settles toward our best 22. The money we gain by not over paying Tom can be better used keeping other young players at the club, eg Gawn.. If Tom stays at a reasonable price great. If he goes, all is not lost.

The dogs have been barking for months that Tom will go to GWS at $1m per year and lo and behold he gets offered a contract with GWS for $1m per year. I think we can draw our own conclusions.

Some on here are trying to draw a parallel with Col Sylvia but are doing so without any knowledge of his demands and the club's offer. Maybe they have discounted Col's worth because they have to accommodate Tom Scully's huge salary, maybe this the start of the problem you have when you give to much of the pie to one person. Who knows, I don't, but neither do the others that have speculated on here and tried to compare the two and their negotiations.

If he stays, like it or not Tom will be the benchmark and I would expect (that ok with you kent) all the other players will look at what he gets and compare his performance with theirs. It's ok for the players to say now they are happy for Tom to get that money so long as he stays but I doubt (ok again kent) that their managers will just sit back and cop it.

Anyway I don't think it will be a problem because I can see the two kids we replace him with earning $250k per year between them leaving $350k to split up among the other players, that's $50k each for 7 other deserving players. Hopefully they will be in it because they love football and they love playing for the Melbourne Football Club.

Dear all,

Like Fan, I haven't read this thread in its entirety buy I find it offensive and contrary to the core values of this site that a player's character is being impugned by people posting here.

So much so that I've taken the decision on myself to lock this thread.

Another thread can be started for those who wish to discuss the continuing saga of where Tom Scully will play next year but slurs on his character (or that of any other player for that matter) will not be tolerated.

I repeat what Fan has stated previously:-

Anyone commenting on that aspect of this issue in this or any other thread will have their posts deleted and if they do it twice they will be banned.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
