I don't know about referring to Bailey supporters as 'Bailey apologists' just yet. The club has been telling us what to think since he was installed with a clear mission to turn over the list , and recruit and develop a young list that could win a premiership several years down the track. Even Schwab's whiteboard Wednesday presentations recently reiterate this point 100%.

Everyone could see the sense in this after the failed 87-94 and 98-06 'tilts' (the former being the bigger missed opportunity than the latter) and the seasoned supporters got behind Bailey with their patience hats firmly on.

Within the last two weeks, this mission of Bailey's has gone from extremely well-presented and managed, towards fans and the media (we've copped barely anything compared to what a club like the Kangas or Port would if they had our recent W-L record), to what it is now: cracks appearing all over the place (I won't use a stronger word like disintegrate).

It's almost as if Connolly doesn't agree with Bailey's methods anymore and is imploring Stynes and Lyon to re-jig where we are heading in the next 12 months. I don't see our stagnation as disastrous as the knee-jerkers here do but I believe Bailey is on thin ice indeed.

Interesting view that Connolly is pulling the strings.

I wouldn't have thought so.

Guys I have read the article three times and I am not certain what to make of the reference to Tom Scully.

Not sure if I am adding 2 + 2 and getting 5

However is it possible that TS has not signed because he does not like the way the Coach / FD work?

Might be a factor so Jim has jumped in to fix things?

If I were TS and looking at a fat offer from GWS there are two areas to consider

- Money

- current Club vs GWS. If we do not appear to be operating in a fashion to take us forward then why not switch to a club that looks better in the medium / long term. You get the money and a better chance of success!

Any thoughts?

Our on-field performances have shown a lack of on-field leadership. Stynes knows this and has has voiced this to the public.

I can't see anyone else in the club who has shown greater leadership. He is a great example for a young group and coach.

This is a positive move by jim. I wouldn't be surprised if Baliey asked Stynes personally.

I dont think he is either but again its a curiosity he was relieved of any mention inthe article noted in the OP.. Thats got me really curious. Either..10 hes inconsequential to anything anymore. or hes being quarantined from the fallout.

Pure speculation here but it is quite possibly that many of the elements alluded to by Hannabal are in play here. Has there indeed been a pating of the ways...or a breakdown in the relationship that was whatever Cuddles and Bailey had/has. Are differing views and ideas of strategems now so opposed that one felt he had to step away and allow heftier hands to act ?

I dont think any of Lyon ,Stynes and numerous others of the inner clique favour the game stlye currently in place, especially as its reaping so little success. There are two ways to change teh direction of a ship... you encourage it to do so externally ..by pressures/forces etc or you get up into the bridge and directly communicate your ideas.

The latter is happening

It is an oddity. Has no real relevance to the rest of the article does it.

im not particularly getting 5...but its not 4 either ...lol

The FD is under the gun...

That is all I read out of that.

And the only area that Stynes didn't revolutionise (for lack of a better word) would be the FD.

I guess it happens in the next 6 months...

Yes..I think in our rush to judgement were not so much myopic towards Bailey as simply forgetting that some of his side-kicks seem less than effective ( from the grandstands)

Probably everyone but blind Freddy will concur our defence isnt so shiny this year. Are the mids inefectual purely from lack of suitable cattle or are their directives not helping either etc

Yep...the FD is under the scope...and the pump.

Now everything else at the club seems sorted and working properly...time to fine tune...this, the coalface dept !!!

Royal has been there 5 minutes.

Mahoney has seen some improvement (the press would not be included in that...)

And West has seen little improvement.

If we are using the very simplified model of judging line coaches by the output of their 'lines,' Scotty West is in a heap of trouble with Mahoney and Royal under the pump. Williams and O'Donnell are harder to judge.

It says one thing, that the Scully saga is unfinished business. I'll say it again, a proud and OBSESSIVE kid like Scully don't come around often, and his type will do anything to achieve their Aim. If he's unhappy at the direction of Melbourne, and feels like it's not the Best for his successfull future he'll try to arrange a plan to Tigerland, the place of his heart strings. He could get there via being ontraded.

IMO he's would like to be a one club player, but If that can't happen, I'm sure this type of Kid would like to play for his beloved.

I did wonder as to the reference to TS old dee, but I brushed it off because I would like to think that the club wants to keep him, but won't be dictated to by him. However maybe he brought up a point of dissatisfaction and they agreed and acted upon it. Interesting, but I am not sure how important it is.

All very 'cloak and dagger' in here today isn't it

Stop trying to connect dots left by journos.

They would make it explicit if it was, they want you to make the leap - therefore it is editorialised [censored] that the gullible and those with an agenda love eating up.

there's something going on here we aren't being told or we aren't privy to. Maybe some posters have guessed it in their posts but I'm not sure

next few weeks/months are going to be "interesting" off the field

On Scully, on on that small snippet? Or on whether an 19 year old who just wants to play footy is in a position to judge the professionalism of our FD?

I think he will stay.

I think he is being chased hard and he has not been enamoured with the behaviour of some Demons off the field.

He's a professional and a leader from what I see, and I don't see many like him at the Demons.

That would be frustrating...

On Scully ?

No, Scully is a non issue in the latest developments.

On Stynes involvement, etc., which is what I thought you were referring to in your penultimate post.

Some things are going to change over the next 6 to 12 months.

1. The coach. A sub committee will chase Malthouse and some quality assistants to take us to the next level.

2. The board will find a football person, possibly Connolly.

3. The players will get a game plan.

4. Stynes can't keep this level of work up so his intervention can only be short term. His own health has to be his priority. Thank God for Jimmy.

5. Scully will resign and one of the reasons will be the revamped FD.

There is another way to read into this...

We are a club under pressure, particularly the football department – Bailey being the face of this.

Maybe the board decided to appoint Big Jim to win a few of us ‘disenchanted’ supporters back, or at least release some of the heat.

How active he is moving forward will be interesting, but in the short term it leaves Bailey to concentrate on his role alone.

Watch for Jim to take more heat if an Eagle-like performance occurs again.

If we're making decisions of this nature to placate supporters then we're in more trouble than most of us first thought.

Stynes loves to get his hands dirty and mould things himself.

He didn't get to mould the FD, and he has seen an oppourtunity to get in there and see what changes will be made for 2012.

At this stage, I think that changes will be inevitable.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
