We all need to watch this a few times

Norm Sacked....

This footage still gets me emotional even now......This club has never fully recovered from it.

The next decade is where it must be make or break to find that killer passion this great club had in spades for decades.

To all you young Demons out there, watch this 4-5 times.

Thanks for that WYL. Sensational. Sad, but very good to see.

It was a bit before my time. But even still, It makes you feel ashamed.

What an absolute legend of our club.

Before my time to, but as you said WYL, would have been amazing to know him. You can see the pain in his face, quite unsettling.

That committee ripped his heart out...he was back in 2 weeks, but the cord had been cut.

I remember it vividly. After all these years it still brings a tear to my eye. Norm was a shattered man.

That bit where he says "I'm Melbourne...at this stage I'm Melbourne, Tony, I'm Melbourne" is very sad... :(

Amazing footage, and I agree, you can feel his love for the club

.... Something 98% of the current football club require.

i have always wondered if the MFC has continued to be ashamed of this, even without referring to it.

John Northey got so close breaking this hoodoo but just couldn't crack it.

i think Norm was angry because he knew melbourne would no longer be able to compete on a level playing field because the other clubs were spending big to lure players (marshall/ farmer) but under the coulter law there were severe limits on what a club could supposedly offer a player. even if norm had stayed i have no doubt we were headed for a fall because the other clubs were already out-recruiting us. under jimmy i feel we have gone past this period of shame and self-analysis and can look to a brighter future. the question mark is whether DB is also "melbourne at this stage", and how the current coaching committee will also view his coaching performance in the coming weeks.

Here is a great written blog on the whole scenario

The sacking of Norm Smith & Interview “Tony Charlton’s Football Show” – Round 13 1965

The fall was dramatic with the team...the committee must have been so blind because of success....if only they were still here in 2011!

Us young demons probably can't completely understand how great this man was.

We probably will never ever have such a man leading the mfc again.

keep watching it deestar....we need you to carry his energy! Norm is still the greatest by far. 6 flags in 11 years.

Yes the Board must be held accountable for this.

Look it was in hindsight a poor decision. It was the case of the Club's golden run ending. Top players of the era had retired. Barassi had chosen greener pastures. And the drivers of the game were starting to change away from MFC.

However, its a wonderful tool for supporters to use to get on their soapbox to wax lyrically about the impact 45 years on. When the truth is that it just wallows in the mindset of MFCSS.

Disagree. I don't think this has ever been explained openly with the members and supporters of the MFC, you may not think it is important. I do.

To clean it all up and start with a new page, the right time is now.

FFS it 45 years ago. The people involved are longer there. Many have fallen off the perch. And for anyone below 50 WGAF? If they are going to do that can they also cover the move to decimal currency which happened around the same time? I dont think that was explained well at all to members and supporters of MFC. A quick synopsis on the Vietnam war would also be appropriate.

I would stick with trying to pot the current coach. Save your torch for the lynchings that matter. B)

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
