Scully to GWS... All you idiots who say "ill go for the money", have a good look at all the players that left got GCS, they are either at a [censored] club, won a flag, won a brownlow, or at the end of their career... Scully IS NOT GOING to MOVE, there is way 2 much to give up at the MFC.

Everyone who is rambling on about him moving for money because thats what you would do.. this is what separates a professional from a [censored] bag.. ([censored] bag is YOU)

Stop talking crap about Scully & Watts (relevant), or move your support to across to Collingwood or Carlton.

FCS man, increase the dose before you explode.....

I spoke to two people who believe they are in the "know" about Scully over the weekend.

One has close ties to the club and he believe Scully has signed a letter of intent with GWS - much like it is rumoured the 8 GC players did.

The other person I spoke to is an assistant coach at another club. He has close ties with SOS (who is a recruiting manager at GWS), he said that SOS told him they have not spoken to Scully and he will 100% be at Melbourne next year.

My personal view has gone from about a 10% stay 90% go at the beginning of the year to a genuine 50%-50%.

Thats all I can report.

Go Dees.

And is that $500,000 gross or net? The marginal tax rate for each dollar above $180,000 is 45%, plus Medicare Levy of 1 1/2%, plus another 1% Medicare surcharge, plus the flood levy of 1%. $500,000 x 48 1/2% = $242,500. The net gain may only be $257,500. That's a big deal if you are only getting $50 - $80,000, but the extra money loses impact if you're on $500,000 or so.

Well, you're assuming he doesn't have a decent accountant :)

So two people in the know, know two entirely contrary positions. That means one of those people in the know doesnt really know at all. In summary - those who know, know nil and those who know they know have a nose these sort of things, really know that no may mean no or yes. Know what I mean ? no ?

In reality its probably both of the people who dont really know at all.

I've noticed a trend with established players who have left to the CGS. These players fall into one of 3 categories:

1- Reaching the end of the career and wanting to financially capitalise on their remaining years in the game and prolong their career (Bock, Fraser)

2- Unhappy at current club, feeling on the outer or generally looking for a change of scenery (Brown who was filthy at Hawthorn for trying to trade him, Brennan etc)

3- Achieved everything there is to achieve in football and have lost a bit of passion and interest so decided to fatten up their bank balance (Ablett spent the week attending parties with his GF instead of getting himself right for the weekend. Tell me that isn't someone who has lost a bit of interest?)

To me Scully does not fit into any of the above 3 categories. At the end of the day individuals go into a career in football to achieve team success. Money and lifestyle perks definitely help, but nobody wants to get smashed every week and potentially miss out on a premiership for the sake of more money. At least not the motivated ones like Scully.

My biggest joy yesterday came from reading Trengove say what a great club Melbourne is. I simply can't see a reason beyond pure greed why Scully would leave.

Agreed - besides Ablett and maybe Rischetelli I also look at GC's recruits and they all sort of fit into a good "b" class category - those who were offered a sum that they could never in their careers achieve at their present club - they are prepared to accept going for a number of years to a development club purely based on being set up for a life that couldnt be achieved otherwise. Each one of the recruited GC players except Ablett were aware that they are well down the pecking order at their club.

The players that would concern me as GWS targets ( unless they are prepared to make a Scully or Trengove next year their marquee signing aka Ablett - a huge mistake in my opinion) are the mid tier players - maybe Morton, maybe Sylvia. even maybe a Bail - the likes of those players.

Any who - they are my thoughts on a subject I just cant stop posting on

If Tom Scully's knee is stuffed and it will have a long term effect on his future he will sign with Melbourne.

If his knee is truly a 12 week injury, he gets over it quickly and it doesn't reoccur he will sign with GWS.

How's that for MFCSS!

Maybe Dustin Fletcher? A likely young colt from Essendon. Could have another 10 years in him. Definitely a Peter Pan.

Should have taken Dusty Springfield

Judd's Grandmother told me Scully has taken six weeks off to head to Hong Kong. He's over there to organise citizenship after he signed a letter of intent with a major badminton club.

How's that for MFCSS!

I was glad to see the end of the whole 'MFC supporters are so much more fickle than those of all the other Clubs' line as a somewhat popular view. I assume this was because of a combination of consecutive record-smashing membership figures on the back of terrible seasons and a realisation that other teams in the doldrums also struggle to get members signing up and supporters to their games.

However, for some reason we still have [some of] MFC's own supporters still attempt to perpetuate a negative stereotypes about supporters of the Club. The idea of MFCSS is ridiculous. If anything, there's just SS - nothing MFC-specific about it. (If you don't believe me, go check out some other footy fan forums).

I actually thought it was a tossup in my mind, as to if we should take Scully or Martin. Trengove was always one of my first 2 picks. Wasn't sure re Martin and Scully. Just had a unsure feeling about scull's. Time Will tell.

Everyone saying it's a 'mystery' injury it isn't. It's a reoccurance of the bone stress issues that he had back in 2009 while he was playing in the U18s - an issue that he had already when he was recruited. It's a different sort of knee injury for clubs to manage, so I figure the medicos are taking their time over it has a lot to do with them being unsure about whether the injury is actually healed up or not.

Can't we just calm down on the paranoia? Tom has said it's going to be handled at the end of the year. The club have said the same thing. While I know there's the whole 'has he signed already' thing, honestly, we are NOT going to find out unless it leaks to one of the major journos in this town. And we've gone probably 3 months of them sniffing around Scully's managers, Scully's family, Melbourne AND GWS looking for signs that he's signed with nothing coming out from anywhere. Which leads me very much to believe that he hasn't signed a thing yet.

Regardless, it'll be sorted out at the end of the year. Right now he's got a weird injury, and, well, weird injuries happen.

We just need to stop wasting hot air over it. Right now, anyway, with how well Gysberts is playing I'm not sure we need him. I'd rather Gys how he's playing now than a half-fit Scully.

How about: signs contract, gets us to a Grand Final, Takes a mark 5 meters out as the siren goes with us down by 5pts and is abducted by aliens before he can take the kick.

That would be annoying too.

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
