Outs vs Brisbane Lions

Recommended Posts

According to the AFL website, our changes for this weeks game against the lions are:

IN: Morton, Gysberts & Woneamirri

OUT: Petterd, Maric & Jetta

http://www.afl.com.au/teams/tabid/16469/default.aspx

I would have kept Petterd in and not rushed Morton back...

Thoughts???

Surely Morton is a good chance for the sub given his versatility and limited preparation

I would think that he would be better down at Casey having a full run and getting match fitness back as opposed to sitting on the bench for 3/4 of a game....

My thought but that makes the bench pretty interesting Watts and Dunn.

Surely they wont start that way.

Is it a message to them "last chance this week perform or off to the magoos"?

At least whoever gets named sub this week can start preparing to play for Casey next week. It's the giant slide to the VFL.

P.S - As for the above post, what's Dunn done wrong apart from having ridiculous facial growth?

Seems a strange balance on the bench thats all.

And i agree boht were ok when the team was going well.

I am a big Watts fan for the long term and i'd like to see him played around the ground a bit to get him into the action learning more at AFL level.

Just because they name those four on the bench does that mean we have to start with all four of them there, if I remember the rules correctly. The only time the starting bench and sub have to be finalised is 90minutes prior to the game.

So theres nothing to stop them naming Jamar, Tapscott, Jurrah and Grimes on the bench on the day with Jamar as sub.

Happy to be corrected but I still believe this to be the case? Davey started on the bench last Sunday and certainly wasnt on the 'froms' in the paper team on Saturday,

Don't you think that one and a half quarters flat out at AFL level with the edge taken off the opposition is better than 4 at the lower level where he has dominated previously?

He is a no-brainer for the sub in my opinion.

The only other likely sub is Dunn.

Go Dees

Understand Maric and Jetta. Petterd verrrrrrry stiff.

Agreed. Probably not on his performance as much as his potential. Maybe we're getting to the stage though, where potential needs to be realised. Would rather him in though...

Agreed, but they must feel we want more run for our game going up to GC.

I've a feeling, that Petterd wil be desperate to play next week. I wouldn't be suprised to see the change happen sooner, or later.

Yes, the bench named now has nothing to do (necessarily) with the offical bench named 90 minutes before the match.

I would have thought that this was common knowledge by now. Also, the sub may not necessarily be one of those that's named on the bench today.

I don't have all the info and understanding of the FD but Petterd being dropped seems unfair. He wasn't great last week but he wasn't Robinson Crusoe either. Jones and Dunn VERY lucky to hold their places ahead of him. There is a huge upside with Petterd - he can take a contested mark inside 50.

Morton for the sub. He lacks match fitness so wouldn't last a game out, but can really go for it for 1 - 2 quarters, barring injury to one of the starting 21 prior.

To me it looks like we are correcting our midfield numbers, It was mentioned that a few players ran out of legs, we drop 3 forwards and introduce two mid's and a small forwards. The team looks a little bit more balanced to me.

We will line up as

Bartram Garland Frawley

Tapscott Rivers Grimes

Davey Sylvia Trengove

Green Watts Dunn

Aussie Jurrah Martin

Jamar Moloney Gysberts

Morton Jones Bail

Sub Bennell

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
