On pre season form Maric could be a huge player for us if he keeps improving.

Agreed. If he starts finding the goals during the season, there will be comparisons to LeCras. The signs are definately showing that this could be his year.

Fingers crossed.

Dont want to start a posting frenzy, but when is Marics contract up?

You could input half our list into this thread. At what age is the cut off for being young?

David King on tonights AFL360, nominated Addam Maric as one of his top 5 Supercoach picks for 2011. This was strongly supported by Mark Robinson.

not suprised at all..none of his goals were luck. He meant every one of 'em

That is a good sign for mine.

I basically agree with all but three of these assessments. Jordie McKenzie is an integral part of our future. Inside player, wonderful tackler, great hands. Ranked 7th for tackles/game in the whole AFL in 2010. Melbourne did not gain any premiership points in 2010 unless Jordie was in the side (ie. he played in all 8 wins & 1 draw; missed 3 losses). I'm sure that other players may have played in all 8 wins but I'm impressed that our successes in 2010 were associated with a 19yo player.

How can Tapscott be a a predicted disappointment when he's yet to play an AFL game? I think that he could be the "steal" of the 2009 draft. Wonderful build, long kick taking the aerial route over the modern zone defences.

Finally, might be 2015 to get the number of games per player into these guys. There'll be some heartache between now & then. But I firmly believe that it's going to happen with this group. Thanks Jimmy et al!

Totally agree on the Jordie Mc Factor...he is the type of player any club wants in september.

Rohan Bail....only played 10 games but is 23 year...so his body is ready to go. With Cam Bruce gone he could take his role.

Rohan Bail i think at this stage could be our main "Sub" player, just a hunch.

But his run and carry late in a final Q just might win us a few close ones.

I rate him very highly

Gysbert would be in my 15 any day. Early days but at worst Tapscott will be a Josh Hunt.

Not bad though for how i would see the team 2014.

My take:

Top 6: Frawley, Watts, Trengove all going to be elite. Scully, Grimes, Jurrah a touch below for various reasons.

Mid 12 Core: Garland, Morton, Wonaemirri, Gysbert, Sylvia, Mckenzie, Tapscott, Cook, Gawn, Bennell, Petterd, Maric.

The bottom 6 can be raffled. Love Blease pre broken leg hopeful he'll be ok.

Bail, Jetta etc will be great role players. bottom 6 of the 22 selected.

Jury still out on his kicking skills I would say. He has a few colleagues in that boat. Hope he proves me wrong cause as u say he can certainly run and carry...

i just keep remembering his tank in last years Round 2 game....he seriously went Flat Out all day.

i hope he can do it some more...those players epitomomize the modern game..We need Bail firing.

Kicking skills can be worked on..

Aside the obvious young "guns" (ie. Scully etc) i really think Gysberts could be the one to explode once his body is up to the rigours of AFL footy. Haven't seen a better first 2 games (even more impressive from a pure tall-midfielder built like a rake) ever. He is all class.

If MFC are to be a serious contender for a flag we need six A grade players out of:

Watts, Morton, Scully, Trengove, Frawley, Grimes, Syvlia (still hoping and waiting) Gysberts, Viney, Garland and Jurrah.

We need to develop good to very good players out of the rest. If one of those also becomes a star then great.

The top category above does not deliver then our hopes are dashed and Prendergast is out of a job.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
