I got a call from Tom in the shop yesterday. poor fellow sounded very stressed.

He came up with a solution which means something will be under the tree and offered profuse apologies.

I think they are doing their best in a difficult situation outside their control.

No doubt these things are made in China or somewhere so its not straight forward.

I certainly dont want to see the club being out of pocket over this.

That is promising. No doubt it would be difficult and stressful. Also out of control for someone like those in the shop at the coalface of dealing with hundreds, thousands of customers.

We've dealt with China too (moreso indirectly) on other business matters and believe me, similar matters arise. Once things are right it should be smooth sailing.

When things like this happen the manufacturer takes the hit. The 'defective' item is sold at a discount price with the manufacturer making up the difference. Presupposing that it is the manufacturers fault, the club loses nothing.

okay so this morning i got a nice package from the MFC with my jumper in it. brilliant i thought. except that it has the dark orange stars and a light blue border around the logo - and is thus defective. my lovely girlfriend has ordered this for me for christmas, and of course has paid the full $119 for the jumper.

so basically the club has just sent the jumper, not said anything about it being defective, not offered to refund the $40 difference and tbh im quite disappointed.

my girlfriend has said she wanted me to get the proper jumper. which she has paid for. in reality im quite happy to have the defective one for now, but not at the prie of 119. id be more than happy to just fork over my own $89 (inc postage) for the defective jumper and then wait until the proper ones are in for the club to fill my girlfriends order.....

anyway guess i will have to give them a bell.

but it begs the question

how many defective jumpers will have been sold at the price of $119 when they should be $40 less and people havent been informed?

Some of the ones posted may have been sent out before they realised they were incorrect?

It's just a very unfortunate situation in general I think. I'd be happy to get one of each at whatever price, but there aren't any home ones left.

The communication aspect from the club is still what I'm disappointed about. I'd have though with twitter, facebook and members' email - something could've been said earlier.

As previously posted, I ordered two large home jumpers the day after they were released on the Mfc website. As of today the info I was getting was from fellow Demonlanders, As many members have posted these pre ordered ones were mainly for Christmas gifts. The lack of of news from The Melbourne footy club has been second to none.

I decided to call the club this morning and I spoke to a very nice young lady I rang and asked if I was going to get my pre ordered jumpers before Christmas, She stated the following.

1. My pre ordered (defective) jumpers will arrive today (Just got them now !!!)

2. A letter of explanation will be enclosed (It was).

3. No refund will apply.

4. I will get two of the new ones FREE OF CHARGE !! in early March.

She was very apologetic amd helpful. So all in all I will get four jumpers for the price of two (Not a bad deal). She also advised me that all the new playing shorts, Training shorts and Media polo's have been recalled by New Balance as the screen printed logo's are peeling off !!!!

At the end of the conversation I joked that it's not a good start by NB and devulged that NB are wearing the entire cost of this exercise.

Posters on a forum are excitable.

There has been a lot of jumping to conclusions in the short time since this issue has arisen.

I'll believe what the club tells me, when they do so.

NB are wearing the entire cost of this exercise.

If that's true than that's more than most suppliers would do. They are giving us products free of charge which we can then sell for a clean profit. That's very impressive.

Most suppliers would let you keep faulty bulk at cost price but rarely will they cover all the costs.

NB are a great supplier if they are willing to do that and we are lucky to deal with them despite the initial stuff up of bulk.

You'd want to be very certain of this, because spreading this information, if wrong, could cause more harm than good.

But assuming it's true, I don't want 2 jumpers with the same number on the back!

Just hoping my bro gives me one of the jumpers now :)

Didn't say that.

But it is conceivable in the course of a telephone conversation that you could misconstrue a piece of information.

Miscommunications occur all the time.

I'd wait until I had it in writing before accepting it as fact.

To be honest, I just don't trust the sources.

If you struggle to form a cohesive sentence, I'll wait to hear it from someone else...

What sources would that be?

Our phone coverstaions with the club or, the young lass at the other end of the phone calls?

Here is an update from Tom at the Demon Shop re this issue:

•We’re very pleased to have New Balance as our new apparel partner. The range they have created looks fantastic however they have encountered some problems in the manufacturing of some of the garments which is obviously very disappointing. There are two key issues- 1. The process they used to attach the Club emblem to the media polo, the training tee and the training tank has not been effective and there have been some cases where these emblems have started to peel off. There has been a full recall of these items. 2. When we received the delivery of the first lot of guernseys last week, we identified a colour imperfection in the stars and the Emblem. The guernsey samples the Club signed off on were the correct colours, however when they went to manufacture New Balance did not reproduce them correctly.

•New Balance have taken full responsibility for all of the issues we have encountered. They will replace all stock and bear the cost of the reproduction. New Balance are extremely disappointed with the service they have provided and are doing all they can to help us.

•The items are produced off shore. New Balance have only just become aware of the issues and are exploring a range of options to get replacement stock as soon as they can but we expect it will be at least February before we receive replacement stock.

•Player guernseys are produced using a different process and are not affected by the above issues and will therefore be delivered in time for pre-season matches.

•The Club became aware of the issues last week and we have been working on solutions to ensure the 270 customers who pre-ordered the range would have something to give as a gift at Christmas.

•The Club is sending vouchers to those who have ordered training gear and a discount voucher for their next purchase by way of compensation. The Club is also offering to exchange any items for other Demon Shop stock if the customer would prefer this.

•With regard to guernseys, those who pre-ordered guernseys are being sent the colour imperfect version so they have something before Christmas with a letter of explanation. They will then be sent a new guernsey when they arrive so they will receive two guernseys. They are also being offered the chance to exchange or refund their purchase if they choose.

•We have also encountered some issues with some sizes not being available. I have been phoning those affected and offering them alternatives.

•Our main priority has been to contact those who have ordered things with the intention of giving them as Christmas gifts to ensure they receive something.

•We have been using Express Post to ensure pre Christmas delivery.

•It has been challenging time and we are very disappointed that we haven’t been able to provide the kind of service we would like to all our members and supporters.

•Please don’t hesitate to contact me in the Demon Shop on 9652 1102 at anytime although due to the delivery issues, we are receiving a high volume of calls at the moment so we may take a day to get back to you. We will be open until 1pm on the 24th of December.

E25, Please read Rhinos post as confirmation to what I stated earlier today. I don't make a habit of coming on here a spreading half truths. It's okay to trust.

I'd imagine the spurs have many more.

Just guessing though.

In terms of overall numbers of "supporters", Spurs would smash us, especially given the number of people outside of London and the UK who would say they "support" Tottenham.

However, White Heart Lane holds about 36,000, which is probably similar to our average attendance. So if you want to look at it that way, we get around the same amount of supporters going to every (home) game.

But from another point of view, we have 11 home games a season, and probably a min. of 16 in Melbourne each year. Three or four big games might get over 50,000 when we're playing well, but just as many games will get around 15-20,000 when we're not doing so well. Spurs will play a min of about 20 home games in a season, and as many as 35 if they make it through the cup competitions. Pretty much all of those will be 90% full, probably closer to 95%.

Depends how you want to cut the numbers, but I'd say Spurs have more fans and sell more products than we do, so could therefore be expected to have a better club shop/merchandise. Having said that, we could sell more by having better products and a better range. The new emblem and mascots could help, as could having new balance on board.

Christmas Priority list

1. Get 2 beers to Aussie soldiers serving in Afghanistan

2-999999999999999999999998. Anything else involving those less fortunate.

999999999999999999999999. Change stars from Burnt Orange to Gold.

And that's the point!

That might be your Christmas priority list, mate, if Christmas is all about giving presents.

As someone that doesn't celebrate Xmas, there are a few things I really don't get. But what frustrates me most is that mosty people seem to focus on buying people presents as being what Xmas is all about. It's really strange to me.

Stories about "those less fortunate" pop up this time of year. But we're apparently supposed to feel for these people because they can't afford to buy presents for loved ones or don't have loved ones to give them presents. What about the rest of the year when they're stuggling to afford to eat or find a roof to sleep under? As long as they get a Xmas present everything will be alright...

By the way, I also feel bad for the white people who witnessed those illegal immigrants die while trying to jump the que to get into our country. They'll be scarred for life... well a few weeks at least.

Don't we have a 'self-righteous board' for this stuff?

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
