Scully said in June this year that he won't discuss his contract until the end of next year... Hardie is just trying to make some noise regarding GWS for publicity reason but scully's contract negotiation has been planned for ages. The club has but alot of pressure on his managerment to re-sign this year but they have stated they won't (no one has from the club has approached scully though).

Tom wants to remain a one club player.

Yeah. If he has the kind of year I'm predicting, he'd be STUPID not to wait.

This is going to be the reality for us over the next 10 years. One of the few silver linings to being woeful over the last 3 years is that your salary cap has heaps of room. Get used to the fact we may end up losing a few players we don't want to lose... and that our top 5-10 players (think Frawley, Watts, Scully, Trengove, Grimes types) will ALWAYS be under pressure from opposing teams with big chequebooks.

It's part of the recipe for success people.

The money or the box. Remember the box contains a fair slab of money. It also contains team mates, the MCG, Jim Stynes, Heritage and marquee games of football. Take the money and you get to play in orange in front of 15,000 bored rugby fans and live in Shitsville. No amount of money would convince me to do what some are proposing Scully will do. He's not going anywhere. Relax and enjoy.

Sounds better than www.tomscully2gws.com.au

If Tom Scully is not a Demon for life, I vow to post the incriminating pictures of myself and Joel Monaghan..

Some humour added to an otherwise hysterical thread...

Did you feel violated Demon, or was it all just a press beat up and you were the instigator?

Interesting to see GWS are into Marc Murphy.

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/marc-murphy-in-gws-sights/story-e6frf9jf-1225969444316

He turned down a chance to play at the club his father was at through Father-Son, so that he could collect a brown paper bag filled with cash from Visy.

Seeing as Carlton are going nowhere fast, I wouldnt be too surprised if he left for a bigger payday at GWS.

If there's any truth to the rumours leaked by GWS that seemingly established players have been enquiring about the prospect of heading there, I think he'd have to be one of them.

Out of interest - when does Morton's contract expire..?

Could be.

If GWS have signed someone already as is claimed, it would be someone that is young & highly rated, but is either stuck at a team going nowhere, or has been starved of opportunities of late.

Morton seemed to experience that in 2010.

I expect he'll play a lot more in 2011, but that is then & we're talking about now.

Pure speculation.

Brad Hardie was saying in the sports chat today that Scully's management has announced all negotiations are off till the end of the year. I haven't read with this is true or not, we do know he is on their hit list with any other good player of note, so not big news there. .......

If this is true, MFC should be starting to plan for life without Scully. May not come to fruition, but planning should be in place.

Sounds about right. We may lose 1 or 2; so be it. Plan for the possibility

Poor speculation if you ask me.

He's at a team certainly going places, looks good and the only reason he was 'starved of opportunity' was pretty much because of injury. He has deficiences he needs to work on, which I'm sure he understands, why wouldn't he want to do that at a club that he's already played 50 games at in 3 years.

Yeah, I agree, it is.

I was just curious how long his contract was for, as I think he'd be a likely target.

I don't think he's likely to go at all, but be fits the profile.

You are joking aren't you

Why would you plan for failure?

Hi I'm the MFC and I'm a loser!

My feelings on this matter is simple- enjoy the year as it unfolds-if indeed Tom gets an official approach from GWS and indeed leaves good luck to him. Footballers whom have left us include Chris Johnson and Brock McLean and look what's happened. If Tom left us, it would not be the end of the world ,similar to how I feel about my previous favourite player in Cam Bruce- if you want to leave-GO. We will replace you and open up another opportunity to someone whom wants it.It is simple as what I have just said.Go and good riddance.

Tom Scully is a similar footballer to Chris Johnson and Brock McLean?:wacko:

I've now officially heard everything. This one will be hard to top.

Unlike those other two (for whom I stifled a giggle as they marched on their way to Visy Park), I'd cry into my weeties every day for a year if Tom Scully walked out. Fortunately for myself and my own sanity, I have 100% confidence this will not happen.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
