Just saw the jumpers now...as my german nana would say "Zat is sh*thouse"

Looks like a 2012 version of the original Brisbane Bears jumper.

Just go to BigFooty and look at all the awesome jumpers fans make up there.

Surely there is an 11 year old between Canberra and Parramatta who is free after school tonight to whip up a jumper just like that girl did for Port Adelaide.

A sad sad day indeed.

I think it wouldn't really matter what they came up with, you'd still call it sh&%house.

I don't mind it one bit.

It doesn't encroach on our colours or brand, so I'm happy with it.

Agreed, I was thinking orange - it's the colour that's not already used.

I was thinking orange, white and navy or orange white and black - they've gone orange, white and charcoal which is close.

It's easy to criticise - come up with a better colour scheme.

Jumper design is fluid - the Eagles, Power and Dockers have all refined their's over the years and WS can too, it's not set in concrete.

I like the traditional Dogs hoops and the new Freo and Port V lines - WS may end up there.

I'm iffy on the Giants but they'll have done their research and it'll have edged out the Wolves etc for a reason.

Again - suggest something better.

If the fans voted for Wolves, wouldn't you choose that name to make the majority of fans happy?

Giants is too American for my taste. Jumper looks bad too. The BigFooty designs are way better - even the one I did for visual communication this year is better. (If I may say so myself :P)

That they do not exist. B)

I'd prefer Rugby not exist than the GWS Giants.

Living in Canberra, and I have not and will not go see a Raiders game.

Can we stop being so parochial.

Yes Victoria is the greatest place in the world - let them spread the fruits up north if they want to.

Let them do it without Raping and Violating the draft for 5 years. The "Just add water for instant success" scenario is a disgrace.

Melbourne Football Club vs the Giants, i am feeling nauseous, this cannot be real. Dam you AFL. Absolutely no style.

I would have preferred something like this (with a much better wolf), but the colours work. They don't clash with anyone and is a little variation on NSW colours and a traditional AFL jumper....but having a crap name and a crap jumper just makes us look better so who cares I guess.

Summed it up perfectly mate. I'm happy to see the game grow but surely there are other ways to build an AFL quality side.

"Greater Western Sydney Giants" is a mouthful and "Giants" is completely uninspiring and unoriginal.

I do like the colours, or rather, I like the colours MORE than Gold Coasts. The West Tigers wear orange and black in the NRL, and it should appeal to the supporters.

The "G" on the front of the jumper would look better if it actually looked like a letter, but maybe that's just me and my poor eye sight...

Word is its GWS Giants. Hate them already. What an awful American-franchise-artificial-basketball sounding nick name. Jumper looks crap too. About as good an effort as this:

I agree but that is probably part of the AFL strategy of converting the NRL masses of the west. GWS is a gimmick so why fight it, the AFL is looking at a superficial market anyway which over time will ideally become more in tune with an Aussie Rules psyche. People who are voting for different names, designs etc are probably not the people the AFL are worried about.

I actually don't mind the colour scheme, if they do it right it will look good on tv - ie against Carlton, Freo (Passionfruit cup) and any other darker uniforms. Also the reverse colour scheme may look ok. The main design is unimaginative and the 'G' resembles a 'C' but it is at least unique.

Either way it just reinforces how damned good our guernsey is. B)

I just had a deja vu regarding some of the objections in this thread to the newly named franchise (18th AFL license).

IIRC the same moaning and complaining was in the Gold Coast Suns thread. When they were named.

Like old55 has stated. Suggest something better !!

I've read his posts. I don't see any suggestion. What is your point ? Or importantly what is the suggestion you're referring to ?

edit: "that they do not exist ?"

that is not an answer/suggestion.

My point is HT, I'd prefer they weren't coming into the league.

Yes ^ edited and realised.

But my point is you've bagged their jumper & name claiming it as the worst. What alternative suggestion can you offer that would make you feel otherwise ? - notwithstanding your opinion of them not existing (which won't happen so get used to it).

The same nature of opinions existed in the Suns thread. But I bet a few of them have now grown accustomed to it. They probably won't even think twice about it at the mid year break in 2011.

The Suns nick has grown on me, and this "Giants" theme to me is bold. It's new to AFL and will be marketable. I don't mind it.

ahhh i just saw the jumper. that is totally appalling. are they going to wear helmets and shoulder pads too?? aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Well I thought it was impossible to have something worse than the " Gold Coast"

But they have done it!

I have never seen anything so insipid in my life.

What is wrong with primary colours these days.

With no green in any of the other 17 clubs I thought Green was a certain colour.

And the "Giants" it beggars belief!

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los
