Other clubs have stated they will pick up Father and Son players before they can be drafted. It just means the other teams now know and they can now save time in trying to get him. I also think it locks in the fact thhat we will have to use a 1st round pick for him, as other clubs will say they wanted him, knowing they cant, just to make us use the earliest pick.

Looks like we added a new midfielder to our list after all ;)

no wonder we opted to load up on talls at the draft. Assuming he reaches his potential, its a great move by the club because as they said in the article by Matt that it allows them to commence his preparations now for round 1 2013 ;) Still can't believe its more than two years away though...

I'd prefer him playing TAC Cup next year, rather than in the VFL.

What doesthat really accomplish. He's just about too good for the Sa u18 comp and had he stayed would be starting in the Roosters ressies in 11 so why not bring him along in the Scorps ? TAC is for boys. Viney will outgrow that very quickly

Agreed, far better for development. Stoked to have him at Melbourne, bring on the future.

With all this talk about TAC Cup and VFL, keep in mind that he'll probably be required to play a fair bit of footy with his school - which I'm guessing will be Carey Grammar, given he's already been a student there.

Presuming that's on the money, he'll be zoned to the Oakleigh Chargers and will play the remainder of the games with them. In the TAC Cup, he will likely be playing against opponents with greater relative talent than he would in the VFL seconds. Best he develops his game among his peers at the moment.

And if his progress continues at the same rate, he'll be in the top two per cent of player in that comp. Confidence can go a very long way when you're 16.

No doubt Melbourne will be keeping an eye on his development but he's also got to be afforded the chance to be a regular kid, too.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 16 vs Brisbane

It's Game Day and the Dees are deep in the heart of enemy territory as they take on the Lions in Brisbane under the Friday Night Lights at the Gabba. Will the Demon finally be awakened and the season get back on track or will they meekly be sacrificed like lambs to the slaughter?

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.
