Sanderson, I believe, would have links to Bailey & Mahoney from their time at Port.

Would be a handy get.

SEN are saying that Scott has got the job

I wonder if the early decision on C. Scott will disadvantage the Dees if they have any interest in Sanderson, ie. with the full complement of staff currently in China. I guess there's always electronic communication, if they want to touch base with him.

If memory serves i mentioned Todds name and was promptly told fathers should not coach sons i believe we have other jacks who would benefit from Todds expertise also toms, colins, lukes etc.etc

There are also telephones I believe

I don't think the FD would put all their eggs in the one basket, escpecially when that basket had a 1in 3 chance of becoming the head coach at Geelong.

We'll find someone, & if we don't, I'll make myself available.

Anyone got Schwabby's email address..?

Can we go with

Coach - Bailey

Development - Viney (Surely to have a major influence)

Forward - Mahoney

Midfield - West

Back - Mark Williams

Do we really need an additional coach?

What is Mark Williams current role? Somebody correct me if he isnt already an assistant please.

The best I can put together is that he was in 2010 - part midfield coach and part dev coach, considering he wasn't mentioned in the club press release concerning the dev side, he is either fired or a dedicated mid coach which would mean we have two midfield coaches.

I think your structure could work.

Posted

It could, but we wouldn't have had all those guys PLUS Wellman if it wasn't needed or at least beneficial.

To just do a reshuffle and make do, would be a step backwards imho.

Posted

I believe Mark Williams is midfield coach and West is also a midfield coach (with a focus on clearances).

If the number of personnel won you flags, the magpies would have won the last ten.

Maybe West needed Williams' assistance for various reasons, maybe we felt obliged to have him help West for various reasons, and maybe he doesn't need that help anymore.

The more voices barking at you, the more confused you get.

But that is just me.

I see what you're saying, but I don't think that would be the case.

We will need to bring in someone to fill a vacancy, whether there is a reshuffle and that vacancy is further down the chain I do not know.

I don't think it's a case of having too many voices at all.

It's looks like Gary O'Donnell has signed on to return to the Lions as an assistant coach.

Looks like we won't be getting him.

I hope we make a big run at Sanderson, but either way I'm sure the club will have this covered.

Besides us , many positions left ?

What was Sandersons main priority at the Cattery ?

I think there are a few, from memory.

Mark Robinson in his article says nothing alluding to where Sando would go, except for the very last sentence when he says

In an off-season of extraordinary coaching change, Sanderson's life has turned a sharp left. It remains to be seen if that road leads him to the Westpac Centre.

probably just filling his collingwood quota though.

Cats website doesn't specify the roles of any of the assistant coaches, but a mate who is a diehard cats fan tells me he's 95% sure Sanderson is the backline coach.

NB. Sanderson's one year as a development coach in 2006 at the power was Bailey's last year there also.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think Mahoney was there that year too.

Re: other clubs with positions to fill...

- Cats will need to fill the spot vacated by McCartney, though that is a development role (& it's not something that will affect Sanderson's decision).

- I also recall reading that Port were having trouble filling a few positions and Camporeale turned them down for Adelaide just last week.

- Not sure about the situation at the GC Suns, but I'd imagine they'd have filled their coaching positions well & truly by now.

- GWS will likely be looking to add assistants, much the same as Hinkley was with GC Suns this year.

- Laidley and Choco Williams still don't have jobs yet.

probably just filling his collingwood quota though.

Just for interests sake that same road extends a little further than the Westpac centre....

although, we may already have our full quota of coaches.

Has anyone mentioned David Neitz?

I don't think Neita harbours any ambition of coaching at all. He is involved full time at the club as it is. So no!

A wise call on Sanderson IMO. Being that there are some familiarities between our style and Geelong, he and MFC would have reason to feel he could fit in quite comfortably.

Working together previously as you suggested below is another positive. What's the bet he ends up with GWS?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
