How much are we prepared to pay for Pavlich?

I know we are on track for a brilliant future, but we can get there very soon with an A grade power forward. How much are we prepared to pay to get Matthew Pavlich?

Let me start the bidding...

how about Warnock and Gysberts?

Any other suggestions?

pavlich is going to Collingwood.

I can tell you they would like to but dont have the freedom in the salary cap.

in typical magpie fashion, they want their cake and eat it too.

to get Pav they need to give up a key player, like cloke, jolley, etc. they wont do that.

they dont have anything like the flexibility of the mfc at the moment.

to get pav would seriously weaken their list

Pavlich In, Cloke Out... ;)

The salary cap is not an issue with the pies, there is always a way to fit players in.

Cloke is nowhere near comparable to Pav.

If you throw in

Thomas then yes maybe, but they wont do that

I suspect I'll be in a very small minority here but I don't think we should really chase Pavlich at all. If he was two or three years younger sure, but despite the fact he is an outright star, I don't think it's the right time to be chasing a player of his age. The precedents for trades involving players of that quality suggest you need to trade seriously high picks plus a good young player. I would rather see us keep all our young potential stars (like Gysberts mentioned above) and aim to have as many players peaking at once as possible. Pavlich will be past his best by the time we're challenging for a flag and the sight of Morton, Gysberts, Tapscott or whoever tearing it up at another club would break my heart.

Another couple of years sticking to the plan is important. Trading too early (for Judd) will come back to bite Carlton as they've already lost Kennedy and Judd's peaking now but they're still not serious contenders. Let's not trade for anyone that won't be at or near their peak when we're pushing for no. 13.

GYSBERTS - You have NO idea

This Kid will be ELITE.

PAV would be nice but I will give you 2 names that will be just as dominant over the next decade when he is long retired.

Jack Watts - Jack Fitzpatrick

Yeah you watch, they'll try to trade Cloke & Medhurst & Davis back to them over there.

Why the hell would pavlich want to become a demon? Money? Gold coast would offer him more. Premierships? He is playing finals right now with the team he is with already.

Pavlich always waits until his season is over before signing a new contract. And he recently married a freo girl. He's not going anywhere.

You may very well not be in a minority. As great as Pav might be, he probably will come with the wrong price tag and at the wrong time for our club in view of his age. We do need a player of his sort but where is he going to be when we're ready to start peaking in 2 - 3 year's time?

Man if we could get Pav it would absolutely awesome. The guys in the peak of his career, has plenty of years left, is like a 5-time AA. He'd pretty much come in and become our best player. Plus he can play as a big bodied full forward and as a supreme clearence midfielder.

I understand the sentiment that we want to keep the group together, and getting Pav would cost heaps. That makes sense.

But disregarding what we would lose by getting him, wrt Pav as a player in general, he is a genuine star and if he said he wanted to come to the demons, i think that would be awesome.

Pavlich will either go to Gold Coast, IF they offer him a ridiculous contract (and that's a big IF), otherwise he will stay at Freo.

He would not be interested in a move to MFC and its pointless even pursuing him..

And why would you want to trade a kid in Gysberts who's a potentially elite AFL midfielder with 10-12 seasons in him???

Makes little sense..

Spot on and besides us, gold coast and the tigers, the other young lists like north and freo still have their superstars at the top end of their careers. This will be freo and north problem cause in two or three years when their young guns start to get to their peaks guys like sandilands, pav etc will be past their prime. I'd rather be in our shoes in that none of our guns (except green) are at the top end of their careers.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
