Anybody out there know what the status of Colin Sylvia's contract is? Not to be a nervous (look out for theft by the Gold Coast)Nellie, but is he a demon for next year?

From rumours Col "likes" the ladies......so now with 100 games under his belt for the red and blue I say "Colin.....go spread your seed far and wide"...........

But seriously, think of his improvement over the 100 games. Now think what we will be like when Scully, Trengove, Watts, Grimes, Morton, McKensie, Tapscott, Blease (fingers crossed), Frawely, Garland, Bennell, Wonna, Jurrah, Pettard, Giz (you can add a load more names here) all get around the 80-100 game mark.......

Go you demons.

Well done Col for this milestone....your playing your best footy hopefully your next 100 games will get better and better.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Colin Sylvia has more talent in that pustule they removed from his big toe than 90% of people to ever play the game...

Hang on... are you saying that he now has no talent as it was all contained in that "pustule they removed from his big toe"?? ;-)

I'm always surprised every time I see Col interviewed. For some reason I always expect him to sound like a meathead, but he's very well spoken. It doesn't fit with how I expect him to sound.

That is so wrong, and yet... so right! demon_biggrin.gif

Oddly enough, I was thinking something similar. Not that I'm terribly interested in the love-life of a footballer (unless I happen to take up football, in which case I will be quite interested in my own love life which will then be that of a footballer), but looking at the benefit some other clubs have derived from the father-son rule, I would love to see us reap the rewards down the track for the strong list we have built. It would be amazing to see another team with the names Green, Bruce, McDonald, Davey and Sylvia running out. Give it 20-25 years and we could well see just that.

Spot on Nasher - I had a good little chat to him at training on Friday night at the Gabba. Is a top bloke, genuine and as you say...very well spoken.

Can't wait to see his next 100 games - I'm tipping a Brownlow somewhere in there too!

Congrats Col!

Yes, they could be referred to as "The Sons of Satan"

Our best player. Not our most consistent obviously, but his best is well above anyone elses.

It's funny watching him in the members when he's out injured, he stops and talks to absolutely everyone, looks like a politician with his big grin and handshake greeting the public - only much more sincere.

That said, I hope I never see it again.

He'll demolish Richmond.

'grats.

He isnt a star yet. But if he continues the Brisbane form he will be.

One of the most pertinant points you have ever made.

Posted

He has wracked up possessions after possessions, kicked critical goals and assisted many in his past games this year. Despite missing 6 games for the season, he has been a massive stand out.

I believe he is one of our most important player running through the midfield, as his blitzing speed, strength, agility and passing have been phenomenal this year.

David Schwarz on Sunday said he thinks Colin can win a Brownlow Medal. I believe with an uninterrupted season, being apart of an up and coming side like Melbourne whom are bound to be a competitive and top side in the years to come, he has shown the potential that he can

At 26 years of age do we think he has the ability/time to do so?

Thoughts?

Posted

He should poll pretty well this year, votes are a good chance against Richmond (2-3), Brisbane (1-3), Essendon (3), Fremantle (1), Sydney (3) and Brisbane again (3).

Posted

He could even do it next year.

Posted

Well he doesn't turn 25 until November, so he's got time on his side.

He's always had the ability, but he was never able display that consistently until last year. Not only has he got his body right, but he's also got his attitude right and he should be commended for that. He'll be a very important player over the next 5 years.

Posted

I called this last year, and I reckon he's definitely the right sort of player to win a Brownlow... powerful, explosive even; racks up the touches, gets his own ball; kicks goals.

Posted

At the very least he'll end up with an AA selection or 2.

I thought he could have won it this year, but for injury.

His game is exactly the type that attracts brownlow votes, high possession and goals from the midfield.

Ox picked Cooney before anyone else. Could be right on it.

That's if you can "pick" a number one draft pick. Any idiot could see that Adam Cooney was going to be very good.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
