Can't think of a match where we've played that well from start to finish (though we turned off a bit in the fourth, understandably given we've got a 6 day break then a trip to Brisbane).

It is Sydney's biggest loss under Paul Roos.

Really, and this isn't a bagging or anything, but Maric would be the only player who didn't really play well. The other 21 really had good games and it will be tough to find room for McDonald, Trengove and Moloney who could all be fit. Heck, even PJ played well.

Can't see Warnock or Bate getting back anytime soon.

Maric played well enough not to be singled out like that IMO.

Bloody fantastic performance from all. Adam Goodes stood between them and complete oblivion. I'm still pumped.

to fit grimes, JT, j-mac and moloney will be difficult

pj had a patch in about the second quarter where it was the best 5 mins of his mfc career.

simply brilliant performance. so fast, so aggressive, so attacking, and so good one on one. amazing. bailey's best win easily

Agree a full 4 qtr, ALL team effort. Mazza applied pressure, chased hard and deserves another game or two. Wonna looks slimmed down again. His fwd pressure is something we need to see on a regular basis, here is hoping he can stay fit. Jordie Mc 12 tackles!

Yeah I'm shattered I didn't end up going to the game - had free tix on offer. That first quarter was incredible and can't remember being so excited watching a game since our comeback vs Bulldogs in round 7. From what I saw of Maric I thought he looked decent enough, although missed a golden opportunity for a goal in the first quarter I think, but deserves another crack next week. But agree it will be tough at the selection table next week. Great to see we really starting to develop a strong home ground advantage (even seem to be getting a good run with the umpires too - that poster from Green - but you gotta take what you can get when you've been down for so long)

Disagree. Well, maybe I shouldn't have singled him out but IMO he just didn't look up with the tempo of AFL football. Of the 22 out there his influence on the game was clearly the smallest. Like I said, it's not a knock, but I doubt he'll be in the side next week.

I bet you he'll get Brownlow votes. He was good, sure, but I can name at least 4 or 5 Melbourne players who were better.

I liked how Bailey left Morton on him all day. Good learning opportunity. Didn't really disgrace himself either.

completely agree.

similar number of touches. beat him on occasion in one on one situations. also kicked one, and set up a couple as well (direct assists). definitely did not disgrace himself. would have gained a lot from playing on him. seeing jimmy talk to him after the game was poignant moment.

Well obviously. Maric hasn't played in a year. No doubt he'll be in the side next week. I actually thought he was really good today.

Ripper game!! 8 goals to 2 in the first quarter alone with Green on FIRE!!!

We ran Sydney OFF THEIR FEET! Pressure was phenomenal and this came from Maric, Aussie, McKenzie, Davey, Bennell and Bartram predominantly.

Do we change this team??? Moloney, Trengove and possibly Junior should all be back next week for the Gabba game against Brissy. But who goes out??? :/ Bail? Maric? Jones even????

Did we even miss those aforementioned players that weren't playing today??? Hahaha. We won without some of our best players!!!

DEMONS ARE READY TO RUMBLE!

Really?

Any of McDonald, Moloney and Trengove could be fit. I reckon it'd be harsh to be dropping someone instead of Maric, though we could find Scully or Watts gets rested. I don't think there were any injuries today, another positive.

I don't think Maric warrants any negative comment. It's his first game of the year, he kicked a goal and had a hand in a few others, and he did some really good work up the ground. He also had a very nice play in the last quarter in which he somehow managed to elude everyone in the pack, dance to the outside and kick to a teammate in Sydney's forward 50. He's showing us plenty.

Correction: He kicked a point and had a hand in a few goals.

I know we have Brisbane next week and that will be a tough game (they're fired up after so much humiliation and we're away from home) and Richmond the week after (who, frankly, are totally unpredictable). But the match I am itching for is Hawthorn. It may sound masochistic but I want to see how our best 22 (minus Ricky) shape up against them. I desperately want to see Melbourne take it to those swine, who have humiliated us, and an even greater dream would be to cause them to drop lower in the eight. I've seen as many Melbourne smashings at the hands of the Hawks as I can take for the next decade.

Really? Who?

26 disposals, 4 goals and 7 marks is a pretty bloody good game. I honestly wouldn't be upset if he polled votes for this game even though it would be taking them away from a very deserving Demon.

The guy is disgustingly good. So much so that you almost hate him because of it.

Goodes was good today, but does not deserve the Bronlow votes he'll no doubt receive. He let Morton run off him at times, with Morton quite effective after quarter time. Goodes' last goal was in fair dinkum junk time too. Yes Goodes played well, but nowhere near well enough to earn Brownlow votes in a team destroyed by 10+ goals. I guess we'll see.

Better than Goodes were: Green, Frawley, Sylvia.

Maric was the worst for a while before Watts overtook him.

Morton was destroyed by Goodes, don't let his numbers fool you.

I won't bother going over the game or how well the players did today because it is/will be well documented. Just want to pay some credit to Bailey who seems to be consolidating our development with some effective tactics. Against the Bombers he talked about frontal pressure and we used that to good effect and he did his homework on Sydney. We were more liberal with our kicking and we stretched Sydney quite well today. Good to see Bailey and the boys starting to take the next step.

Agree, did some very good things i thought.

Morton was beaten one-on-one by Goodes a few times, but that was always going to happen. Where Goodes fell down was allowing Morton to run off him and get kicks. I still give the points for the day to Goodes, and reasonably easily, but not enough for Brownlow votes.

The umpires love Goodes so he will probably poll votes, Morton was easily beaten by Goodes, but just about anyone in the league playing on him would have been.

The boy needs some muscle desperately.

What an amazing game. This is why I love football and MFC. When Jurrah kicked a goal in the pocket and Bruce Mcavaney said "THE DEES ARE GONNA BE SOMETHING" in such a strong voice and high point in the game I felt an amazing feeling and rush, it was a beautiful call by Mcavaney. That game itself makes all these years of anger, sadness and constant bagging from opposition supporters worth while. To be honest I do not expect us to play like that again for a while but boy oh boy we are in for something in years to come. Sylvia's body strength in the hips today was on par with chapman. Bartram played an amazing game and looked like Mr whelan himself. I hope people realise what we have on our hands in Jordan Mckenzie, this kid is going to be a MFC great, mark my words. I could go on for ages but these are the game you need to soak up and enjoy beacuse the ride has finally started, we have just tipped into the era of MFC ;)

It was Goodes vs Melbourne today, he was the only thing standing between them and a 100+ humiliation. Whether or not he deserves Brownlow votes, i'd personally have Chip, Green, Sylvia, and Jamar all i front of him but he was a tough competitor against us.

Easily the best win of the year and i'd rank it as one of the most important. They can be a genuinely tough team to break down, they are firmly entrenched in the finals hunt, and i rank Paul Roos as the best tactical coach in the league. The players looked pumped from the start, and the tackled with the ferocity that made us such an attractive team to watch in the earlier rounds. The best part is that we have 3-4 of our best 22 out of the side to come back in soon, and it's going to be a difficult ask for the match committee to fit them all in. A great headache to have!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
