Johnson??? MacDonald?????

Come on, they were two of our best today.

For mine - Bate needs a good kick up the backside. Back to Casey.

In: Trengove

Out: Bate

If McDonald is to come back in - I'd drop Bartram, or Moloney might be injured.

I agree Macdonald was up there with the best and Johnson turned on and deserves to play.

Bartram I'd drop, also garland didnt play well... dont think he should be dropped though

I thought Bennell was one of the better players yesterday, especially in the first half when the majority of the team stood back and did bugger all.

OUT: Bruce

Ohhhhhh if only.... but he's a B.B.B (Bailey Backline Baby), like Rivers and Bartram, and could not get dropped even if he tried.

Could he at least be moved forward? At least then if he's kicking it at goal he can kick it as high as he likes!

It was more a hopeful suggestion than something what will happen in reality. As soon as we give these type of players a kick up the backside, hopefully they will realise they have to work hard to keep their spot. A week for Casey could do a world of good after a shocker yesterday.

I love the big man, but PJ I think may be the reason we lose against the Swans. I'm relatively happy with our setup against theirs. But Mummy is the 3rd best ruckman in the comp at this stage, and I have a feeling when PJ goes in the middle, we're going to get smashed.

Problem is it seems to me like Bartram is being groomed as the next Bruce... and none of the B.B.B's are at risk of being dropped so they wouldn't feel the pressure of an oncoming backside kick... We need a senior bloke in each area of the ground to help the young guys find their way, it's just a shame we don't have 3 Juniors so that we could have 1 in the backline and 1 in the forward line as well.

At any rate, Junior and Bruce won't be around next year, so let's hope the pups learn the right things before then.

I'm not a massive wrap for the leagues biggest midfielder (PJ) either, but he's been VERY useful the last 2 weeks. He did well against the 1st best ruckman in the league so no point dropping him when he's coming up against the 3rd best.

No pre-emptive dropping thanks. He's earned his spot this week (for now).

PJ did well enough against Sandilands, no reason why he couldnt do allright against mummy. Also sydney played alot of talls on the weekend, if PJ loses his spot i'd say Warnock will need to come back to play on on of the swans talls?

I can't believe people can't see the importance of Bartram. His is our best small defensive defender on our list at the moment. He is the guy that gets the job on the most dangerous small forward each week so guys like Grimes, Bruce and Co can run off and set up. That little diver yesterday didn't beat Bartram he got a couple of easy goals from our stupidity.

At the start of the year I was one that had Bartram gone come seasons end but he is so important to our team that he would be in our best 22 in 2011. Look at our list We don't have that stopping small defender, Cheney is close, Strauss/Bennell will be more the creative HBF and Grimes is the same but belongs in the middle.

For this week

Out Moloney, Morton

In Trengove, Maric

I'm dropping Morton because we can't play Morton, Bruce, MacDonald, Garland, Rivers and Bartram in the same backline one has to go and Morton was bad yesterday.

The Captain has been out to long needs a run at VFL level.

Posted

Given they talked about Moloney's leg really blowing up and him having to stay back, i reckon he is a 30% chance at best.

Out- Moloney (Inj),

In- McDonald.

PJ is there as back up and needs to stay to help Jamar.

Dunn has been really effective since returning and has earnt his place.

Bate (whilst exhibiting poor disposal on Sun) is still a valuable member of that forward set up. He will always look laconic people, its just the way he is, and it is the same for Morton.

Bail did enough to stay.

Bennell was fantastic.

The MFC site mentioned Trengove as only a 50-50.

If Trengove is fit then it may be that Morton makes way.

Still think Maric needs to do more to earn a place in the team.

People also need to remember that stability and a show of faith by the coaching staff is important. Have a look at that Essendon rabble. With 4 changes every week their players have no confidence and the team never settles.

loook if you had watched the last few games rivers has been good, he is also in the leasership group and adds leadership to our young backline, and bartram is by far the best small backman in our team, cheney has nothing on him, bartram has nearly been the best small defender in the league, and would have had another scalp, if it wasnt for two gifted goals to ballantyne.

ohh and on the pj issue which is also discussed, i think he had a really good performance, and may well be turning a corner, but that is optimistic, but still deserves another gig

for mine

INS: Trengove,

OUTS: Moloney, (may not get up from the corky)

although i would love maric in i think that no one will get dropped. mind you if bailey really is running on form, it would mean bate out and maric in possibly, but thats an opinionated issue.

It's easy to look at the second half and conclude that players played well. The game was lost due to poor performances in the first half. The second half revival was due to all the pressure released after having nothing to lose combined with a great second half of a few players. We need to address the realities of why we lost as opposed to the hypotheticals of how we could have one.

We need to improve our foot skills coming out of the backline, we need players that start well to be in the key positions from the outset and we need more reliable kicks for goal. The only player that doesn't deserve his spot is Morton. Bennel was the only clean player when the rest looked like they were playing with a rock, Macdonald and Johnson did important things at crucial moments and kept us in the game. We have do something about a half forward line that is getting fed by Jones, Bartram, Rivers and Macdonald. I don't care how good these players were...this is not a winning combination.

Out: Morton and Jones

Morton to return bigger and better in 2011. This year is not for him.

I Agree. Bartram is progressively becoming one of those annoying Jared Crouch types. Not a great kick, but he is now more aware of this deficiency in his game and compensates quite well for it. His shadowing and tackling is becoming top rate and nobody could doubt his commitment and bravery. He is now developing some real footy smarts, especially in the last line. I wish his kicking was better but then look at the goofy unnatural style of Chip Frawley. He is another who has learnt to compensate.

You've pretty much summed up my thoughts. Let's keep the Ins and Outs simple, after all we did push a top 4 interstate contender away. I can't quite fathom the calls for the likes of Bennell, PJ, and Dunn to be dropped given their games on the weekend. Morton wasn't good on the weekend but i reckon he is slowly starting to find some touch, that said if Trengove is ready to go he would be my choice to make way.

Morton to return bigger and better in 2011. This year is not for him.

Nathan Jones would be one of the first five picked each week. His ability to muscle the stoppage ball, and his delivery inside 50 is with Moloney's the guts of our midfield. Any idea of dropping him leaves me frankly amazed. Have a look at Mark Williams week to week player assessment and you'll get an idea of his true value to the people who know, and who matter.

Trengove won the handballing competition on the Sunday Footy Show. He was asked abour his injury and he said he was out because of general soreness. He certainly inferred that he was available to play next week. It looks like he was just rested.

Posted

I'm not sure that enough posters are considering the opposition when suggesting their changes for next week. The Swans have one of the biggest, hardest midfields in the comp - think Jude Bolton, Brett Kirk, Ryan O'Keefe and Josh Kennedy. We'll need big bodies in there to mix it with them.

With Moloney unlikely to play, there's no way we'll drop another of our big bodies in Jones. If Trengove and and McDonald are both fit, they should both come in at the expense of Moloney and Morton.

Cam Bruce can run with Goodes when he starts the midfield and Jared Rivers can go with him up forward. James Frawley will be needed to play on Jesse White and Col Garland will go to Rhyce Shaw or whichever makeshift mid-sized marking forward Roos puts down there this week. Clint Bartram is a perfect match for Ben McGlynn, who is actually their most dangerous forward.

We'll also need two rucks to cope with Mumford and Pyke. Don't be fooled by Pyke's inexperience - he's actually a reasonable tap ruckman and can take a mark.

I also suspect we'll go tall up forward and try to exploit the Swans' defence in the absence of LRT and Craig Bolton. That leaves Ted Richards and Heath Grundy as their two key defenders. The Swans got away with that setup against a Jarrad Waite-free Carlton but they'll find it harder to cover Watts, PJ, Jurrah, Bate and a strong-marking Sylvia. Their plethora of half-backs are good at ground level but not great in the air.

Out: Moloney (thigh), Morton

I think Waite played at the weekend but i like your thoughts Mikey.

Dropping a player with a big hard body like Jones with Moloney already on the sidelines is probably not a good option against the Swans. That being the case it does leave Morton an obvious exclusion.

PJ definitely deserves to stay in and provides a pefect foil for Jamar against the Swans twin talls.

Bruce makes errors with disposal but he is normally very clever in the one on ones and acts as a bit of a general in the D50. He is the best equipped to sum up the opportunity to drift forward and make an option without leaving us deprived of cover down back. Unfortunately his tackling and defensive marking/spoiling efforts were sub par on the weekend but for most of the year they have been good.

Trengove and McDonald are important ins but i am still undecided as to who to leave out. If Moloney manages to get himself up it will make it even harder.

So Waite did, you're right! Regardless, the point remains largely the same as Carlton haven't relied on a big forward structure all year.

You're spot on about Bruce. I can't recall too many one-on-one contests for a disputed ball that he's lost this year and he has by and large been pretty good defensively. He had a shocker against Freo but his previous month was better than reasonable.

it's also important we get a couple of games into Maric before the seasons out so we know what we've got.

Why? Dont you think the football department have a fair handle on what Maric can and cant do?

And why the rush for season's end? Maric is contracted in 2011.

It would be nice if Maric earned his spot from doing the things at Casey that he is required to do in the AFL.

Which is exactly what the boy has done 3 weeks running...

Agree with MikeyJ's post re inclusions etc. Was well put forward.

OUT: Moloney (inj), Bartram

IN: Maric, Cheney

(Trengove and Junior if they pull through are automatic, and if so then swap Maric and Cheney to emergencies)

Re: Bartram v Cheney - thought Barty was ok on Sunday but just feel like our defence is a bit impotent with Bruce, Rivers, and Bartram all just a bit too similar in their average to poor use of the ball, IMO Cheney is a bit tougher at it and let's face it Bailey wouldn't drop the other two even if they had 30 turnovers.

Re: Maric - if he doesn't come in this week then he must have said something about Baileys wife! Automatic choice for mine.

Would love to see Aussie come in too, but not sure who would make way for him yet, probably needs one more good game for Casey before he forces his way in.

Why?

Took Cheney 15 weeks, the majority of which were good games for Casey, to crack into the side. McNamara still hasn't cracked it. Bennell played well on the weekend. But apparently Maric is an automatic selection.

I love the big man, but PJ I think may be the reason we lose against the Swans. I'm relatively happy with our setup against theirs. But Mummy is the 3rd best ruckman in the comp at this stage, and I have a feeling when PJ goes in the middle, we're going to get smashed.

Then ruck him against Pyke.

Mumford's good, but he hasn't good Jamar's tank. He won't ruck all day. So just ensure that when Mumford's out of the ruck, PJ's in. Pyke's terrible.

I only watched the last quarter but Bate was really good as the Roaming Half Forward. On what I saw he won't be dropped.

There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
