Demonland Player of the Year

I hope your joking. He was nothing short of horrendous.

Bit harsh...he was ok against Goddard, a fair assignment with which to prove yourself in first game of the year! Not sure he was worth 5 votes....Trengove & Chip clearly best.

6 Davey

5 Jamar

4 Bruce

3 Dunn

2 Cheney

1 Watts

Apologies: Macdonald, Green, Jones, Beamer, Chip, Garland

I just like the fact that they gave a damn, showed spirit and fought (at least or 3 quarters). Cheney alone showed more hardness than we saw for the whole game last week.

worse was Dunn's goal which he dribbled through from 40m. the choice of kick was absolute brain fade. he's just lucky it went through. unforgiveable. if someone doesn't give him a whack around the ears for that low percentage effort, we're as good as stuffed.

someone can tell him to shave that piece of **** of his upper lip too. it's a disgrace.

my votes:

6 - trengove

5 - mckenzie

4 - bruce

3 - jamar

2 - chip frawley

1 - bennell

Yep, that was stupid as well. Low percentage rubbish kicks that I don't want people like Dunn, who can barely slot them from 9m directly in front taking. If you're Jurrah or Bennell, you can get away with it, if you're Dunn, then no.

Also agreed with Nasher that his brain does not cope under pressure. He makes terrible decisions, which is why he seems a lot better up forward where decision making isn't as crucial or necessary (not hard to decide between "go for goal" or "pass it on").

I know he played OK footy this season, but he has so many limitations, and for someone who doesn't fulfill a really vital role, that is not good. Bartram for example has limitations, but he does a very good job defensively and is required to play on small forwards, so you forgive some of his downfalls. But when you are a bit player with no real position, you need to have a lot of tricks up your sleeve to justify weekly selection.

Well done to Cheney on his 2010 Season debut also. Was competitive and will hold his spot one would think.

Goddard had 31 possessions and top votes in The Age FOTY. I'd hate to think what would have happened if Cheney wasn't 'competitive'.

When does Goddard NOT have 31 possessions?? :P

And, for the record, Cheney is a backman. Goddard was up forward for most of the match. How many goals did Goddard kick? Just the one...!

Cheney has that ability to not let many goals be kicked on him. He is a great spoil of the footy. He is a tough nugget and I loved his aggression. He won't find many more opponents tougher than Goddard.

He would have learnt lots from the game.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
