What are you expecting against the Saints?

- I want too see every player made accountable and play 1-on-1 football. We seem to play our best when we play like this.

- Play the corridor

- Positional changes. I want us to be unpredictable. Garland forward. Grimes midfield. Bennel to play as a more permanent crumming forward. Morton forward. Casey players rewarded. Cheney surely needs to play ths week!

- An even Kick to Handball Ratio. No handballing backwards after a mark has been taken. Only forwards. No flat footed players.

- A forward structure so our mids can hit up a target.

- Tackle tackle and tackle. Smother smother smother. We dont seem to smother enough compared to other teams. 1 per centers!

To win the first quarter! demon_blink.gif

It would be nice to kick the first goal and not have a score line of 0.00 to 1.00 after 35 seconds of the match.

I hate going there it is a grave yard for us, though strangely enough we had a very good record in the first few years after the ground first openend up.

I don't expect to win the Saints are a very good side and all we can hope for is a credible performance with every player putting in. We have to think outside the square in this match and as mentioned above I would like to see some of our players go one on one with a few of theirs.

I'm expecting a red-hot crack, we must not let ourselves get blown out in the first quarter. I know this seems obvious, but we've had so many poor first quarters this year that we must make a stand here at the G. I know that they were trying to rev the players up in the media last week with all the talk around our poor interstate record and bad starts to matches, but i think this would've been the better game to focus on with our starts given how well the saints are at it.

What's been most disappointing in the last 9 rounds bar the 2-3 games is our lack of sustained intensity, it's what made us such an attractive team to watch early on in the year. We lost Petterd and i don't think many of us realised the full ramifications of that at the time, and now we've lost Junior who's been arguably our best player all year, but the best thing i found that they brought to the table was their pressure and willingness to commit. Someone needs to stand up and take responsibility to to just fill those roles, but excel at them.

The players i'll be looking at this week to take up this challenge are Dunn, Sylvia (although he might be rusty first game back), and Jones. All players that have been round long enough to take that next step.

The irony is that i won't be surprised at all if we do end up playing quite well and giving the saints a scare, but ultimately i can't see us winning.

Yep - and got rolled too!

I read somewhere that some punter took 18-1 about us getting the wooden spoon. The odds were trimmed to 15-1.

I suppose I should have said that all the footyologists feel that we're underperforming and the draw doesn't look good.

That would have been Daryl Timms at the Herald-Sun talking with another spruiker in Mark Robinson. As Robbo pointed out, a complete waste of money.

So how do you think this season should have panned out for the Demons ? Because you've previously stated that you didn't expect to see 2010 unfold the way it has.

With regard to the topic, I'm expecting a RHG by the boys against the Saints. I was bouyed by the Rd22 game last year, admittedly Jurrah was fit and firing then.

What I expect and hope for are two different things...

Expect: (expect this in every game)

- a full four quarter effort

- all players to give their all, I know they generally do, but want it to also seem like they are if that makes sense

- overall improvement

- the train services to run on time to the ground, and from.

Hope:

- our pace and ball movements breaks down the saints defense, similar to the way Carlton and Essendon did.

- a win

- to not freeze my a$$ off in that god forsaken arena

- the train services to run on time to the ground, and from.

Does anyone else expect to see Watts keep his feet the whole game? Would be typical, the worst surface and hardest ground to do so on, he just comes on and glides across the turf...would be nice...

For us the result is pretty much irrelevant. If we can be competitive with them in most contests most of the day, I think we will be able to take a lot out of it. The reality is, if we had to beat them, we may try an unconventional forward line the likes of the Carlton one. Bennell, Davey, a defensive forward and Jetta. Or we might try to make it a nil-all-draw by playing slow and wide with lots of men behind the ball. But this year, Bailey will be more interested in getting games into the right players in the right positions than finding some makeshift one-offs to have the illusions of competitiveness. So we cane expect Watts to be double teamed, Green to kick a few, our backline to be honourable and our midfield to get well beaten by a bigger and better side.

I would hope we work very hard on negating their rebound off half-back, because I think it's clear we can control that a lot better than we can control other aspects where they are a lot better. If we are within 2 goals of them each quarter and win one quarter, I will be OK with that.

Hey HT,

I suppose I was expecting more brilliance, more resilience, less mistakes. Suffice to say, it seems that the older, more experienced players continue to make mistakes and drag the youngsters down with them.

I dunno, more...more...mongrel. Hard to explain the intangible.

Make that 17 to 1 yesterday

If the bookies are correct then where does that leave Dean Bailey

It appears as if he has done as much as he is capable of

It will be an intersting few months

Last year half way in the last qtr we were only 10pts behind the Saints. I would like to think, no, expect we have improved on last year. We should not accept anything less!!

If we can take it to the pies and the dogs, we should take it right up to the saints. I think our biggest issues are between the ears!

What am I expecting?

A slow start where we look totally outclassed.

Much better second and third quarters so that at three quarter time we're actually in with a show.

Dominating the first ten minutes of the last quarter but unable to score a goal.

Fading to lose by 38 points.

What am I hoping for?

A brilliant first quarter where we kick 9.9 to one solitary point.

A solid second quarter where we pot a lazy seven goals to two.

A sloppy third quarter where we let them in for four goals, but we still score five thanks to Matthew Warnock scoring three consecutive running, bouncing goals.

A masterly last quarter. They don't get the ball in their 50 metre zone. We score 10.2. The crowd goes crazy. Ross Lyon says we are the best team ever. St Kilda players ask for Jared Rivers' autograph.

I suppose we can all dream "Demonised" I am expecting a lot less than you. I hope that on Sunday night you can call me a Dick---- But I think a min. 60 point loss is coming.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
