Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I don't like bagging any player, especially at another club. If they leave us - then out of sight, out of mind.

Let's worry about our own flock.

Agree, other than thugs and snipers, who deserve some bagging.

I think that is pretty much what I referred to in my post.....If he had the work rate of Stinger he could have been anything as his natural talent is equal to anything that has walked into our club in the last 20 years (THIS CANNOT BE ARGUED!!) Output was sadly far far less than the majority who have walked through the door during Traps time.

Its not just work rate, it also his immature. And there is no need to yell your point of view. Its does not make a wrong assertion any more accurate. He was highly rated and did not deliver. Your final assessment is an embarrassing stock take on a player who was a No 1 pick. 160 often ordinary games in 10 years. What a waste

I would take his lazy, undisciplined, immaturity over the graft of a Paul Hopgood any day. Sorry if that is not the politically correct thing to say but I can remember many games Trap played that will stay with me than ONE that Hopgood played. I think I'm still miffed that Hopgood ever got on that list of best players in our history.....how very sad!

Wow Johstone vs Hopgood....geez its a toughy. I dont think that the logical choice and its hardly makes TJ look a better prospect when you pit him against a suburban footballer who was not blessed with talent but gave his all in his 113 games.

For a No 1 pick I would expect a player to a 10 year 200 game player who is a leader at his club and the winner of multiple awards who was elite or near elite in his position. TJ was underwhelming at best.

FWIW, I have more admiration for guys like Junior, Kirk and others who cmoe from down the draft list or the rookie list and work to achieve considerable performance at AFL level off limited talent bases

And I hope we are not cursed with any further lazy, undisciplined, immature with a gameboy mentality.

All I can say is 'that's great' - on both accounts! For all you who say you dont wish injury on other players and feel sorry for them, ra, ra, ra - don't speak utter tripe!

I'm a member.....are you?

With an attitude like that, yes, perhaps you are a "member".

Toward the end of last year, McLean was getting more roles outside the centre. When his new contract came out with lower $$$, he would have seen the writing on the wall. Apparently he had been speaking with Ratten and Riley during 2009.

I don't see this as necessarily a situation engineered by the coaching staff but it was a natural progression and the football dept had to see it coming.

Brock is useless unless he is playing on ball and the way the game is headed (and our team) is gearing towards 3/4 of your team being able to play through the midfield and rotate through other positions on the field.

Versatility is a requirement and it is something Brock doesn't have.

While he was on our list he was worth persevering with, but Bailey's placement of Brock in foreign positions was going to force someone's hand eventually.

Brock felt unhappy and chose to go; we weren't opposed to it and saw that he would cease to work in our system anyway.

Incredible that we managed to get so much for him.

I see no reason to hate him and rejoice in his failures, rather I'm just happy he decided to time his departure perfectly.

Mate....firstly, how do you assert that my 'final assessment is an embarrassing stocktake" in regard to me actually being in the affirmative that "Traps output was far less than the majority that have walked through the door".

I would suggest that I am agreeing with the level of output that Trap delivered in comparing the natural born talent he was blessed with. You can say I am wrong as much as you like...whether I confirm the point in CAPS or not.....the fact is there has been no one more talented come onto our list in the last 20 years. You and others can argue the point on that but IMO everyone that has walked through the MFC door in that time has not been blessed with anymore natural talent than Trap was.......this argument does not extend to 'output', just talent alone so argue the point on that.

I think I finished my sentence on this topic regarding Trap that 'his talent has got him through'

I hear you on my Hopgood rant....and yes, others such as Junior, Kirk etc are deservingly praised for extracting every ounce of ability that they could muster to forge what have been outstanding careers, but IMO I wouldn't even get near having Hopgood in the same bracket as those two. Yep good on Hopgood....the fact the he did extract 113 games from very limited ability says to me what an average list the Dees had that time for him to get to that many. Maybe that is unfair but it is my opinion. I still cannot understand that in the entire MFC history he is rated in the top 150.

The other news makes me just as happy. Hope there are enough droppings to give Wonna and Jetta a run this week.

And you wish injury on other players?? You're a fine one aren't you? FFS

Not at all - and I think you missed my point! I meant that it's just a waste of time to say oh we wish them all the best or speedy recovery etc, etc! A lot different to saying I wish he'd get injured or hope he misses 12 months! If you want to sit there and cry over Brock missing a few months, then good on you!

So is this confirmed yet regarding Brock? Haven't heard it mentioned on any official site or publication. In fact Brock is not even on the official injury list from the AFL website. So is this even true.

Certainly am a Gold Member and proud of it! If only Brock had been committed to the club for as long as I have been?!

So you would say you have contributed more than the $10,000 he gave to the Debt Demolition fund? The guy was obviously committed to the club, but being a realist, and as I said somewhere else, he probably saw the writing on the wall as far as his future viability playing with Melbourne was concerned and decided to move on. Also, having an uncle who had been a prominent Carlton player probably helped his decision to move to that club (and made him more attractive to them). And don't forget that by moving on in the way he did, as well as the $10K, he contributed pick 11.

You really ARE a "member".

Well I don't wish the guy that kind of bad luck. He is a young, elite sportsman in a cut-throat, competitive world. Unlike internet typing.

Snap! Well said.

Happy to hear about the re-signings, Jurrah seemed a lock but great to hear Jetta and Bennell are keen on staying too.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just heard that Brock McLean is to have hip-( i think its hip?) surgery and will be out for 12? months.

Sometimes I have to wonder where these kinds of rumours spring from... and the interesting thing with his one is that it was never refuted... until today when one Brock McLean is running around against West Coast.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
