if people are Dumb enough to throw more money away then they can afford then #@$% em

My opinion is there is no such thing as Pokie addiction, Sex addiction, Food addiction, people who claim to have these problems are looking for an easy way out.

Don't presume your views are representative of a generation.

Far from it.

That antiquated mode of thinking is more common in generations past.

Just be real careful of Bruce Mathieson please MFC. Forever stand your ground.

That guy is a ruthless business man-That's all i will say.

How ironic that pokies are looked upon as the doings of Devils and we as Demons are to benefit from them. I honesty look upon this as the lesof two evils. we can go broke or in a faustian deal reap the benefits of these soul-less succouers. Yes we'd all be better off if they werent so prevalent. . But what is...IS and they are everywhere and someone make more than a helathy quid from them. A cancer on society ? No doubt. would we be any better really to deny their benefit to our precarious existence ? Well.....careful how you answer that. They are here, we have licences. we will profit from them. Such is life.

It's a government decision, and I would rather clubs benefit rather than some [censored], although the [censored] will always get his un-fair share.

......................... It's too much of a cash cow to ignore. They'd be derelict in their duty to ignore something that could so significantly prop up our finances.

$4.3mil a year from a $370K outlay.

Incredible money.

Sadly, that is oh so true!

Disappointed that Mathieson owning Leighoak as well. He could very well pull the pin on us & pass it to Carlton."Melbourne's board allocated $4 million for 92 machines at the Mathieson-owned Leighoak club, but ended up paying just $370,000"

These really are the important points for MFC we could possibly be beholding to a guy that could pull the rug from

under us at any time. MFC should look to invest the other 3.7 million into more diversified revenue streams.

Where we there is reduced risk. He's done it to Bulldogs and Tigers he could definitely do it again.

I don't presume to know much about this but I would assume we have a contract that must be honoured.

Addictions are REAL. Some are consumed by them, others are battling them. Those who have overcome them are the strong ones. That doesn't mean those that are battling are weak.

Bulldogs & Tigers may have presumed too.

It's nice to take the moral high ground but the fact remains that pokies machines are not going anywhere and if we can make some money from them then perhaps some good things might come of them.

We are too poor to be worried about fixing the world's gambling problems. It is not our responsibility to be perfectly honest.

Oh and yes, Carlton just continue to shine as an example of a filthy, rotten organisation that deserves nothing but misery. Bastards!

Yeah,,, but if no clubs were allowed them the playing field you would hope would still be fairly even, you'd hope. How many machines are under the control of Carltoon?

I wonder if they've engineered another advantage by having more machines & in more lucrative places than their selected bedfellows.

Yeah, can someone please clarify this? If Richmond had a long-term lease, then why was Mathieson able to terminate it just like that? Do we definitely have the machines for the next ten years, or can he [censored] us off and sell them to Carlton any time he likes? I feel kind of stupid, because I've read the article twice, but I still don't understand this aspect of the deal.

Thw way I read it is that he sold the leases pre the 10 yr deal. We own them now for at least 10 yrs.

effectively that is an extra 2.2mill up on wb revenue annually. That is 2 or 3 major sponsors extra they will have to find to compete against us. It sucks to be them. How are those Tacos tasting now suckers!!

Yes addictions are real. i just think the ones i said are not. Just my opinion.

Anyway if the dees can get more pokies i say go for it. If members don't like it they can write into the club and voice there concerns, I then think they should give a few examples of ways that the club can make the money that they will lose if we don't have the pokie revenue..

Posted

Pokies are wrong, wrong, wrong.

No wonder Carlton is so heavily involved.

pokies are bad yes, but until all the other club give them up, then we can give them up,and don't throw mud at Carlton because everyone is involved, its just the bulldogs are weak club with no friends in high places, and don't worry he wont cut the dees from our pokies,he cant give them all to Carlton. and all of you people want us to blow our pokies, be real, will all of you pay the clubs shortfall, from the pokies

Posted

That's more reasonable than 'Gen Y signing out'! :P

Anyway.

The machines are structured so you can’t consistently win. The best you can hope for is to get away with at least some of your dignity intact.

This is why I don't understand why people start. First, they are machines rigged so that you cannot win over the long term. Second, they don't appear to be terribly exciting. Putting aside issues of addiction, what's the appeal of starting?

Posted

Great news for the club!

For those saying that we should stay away from these machines and that they should be banned, look at it like this: If we turned our back on an oppertunity like this, another club would only jump at the chance to have these machines, and in turn it would only put us further behind the pack financially.

Agree that they are not necessarily the best things for society, as I'm one who believes they do target a certain socio-economic audience, but then so do cigarettes, and it's not like the Gov. will ban them will they?

^This. From my understanding (in QLD pubs FWIW) they're programmed to return less than 82% of money put into them (and give >10% to the government). This is slightly higher at the casinos (85%?), but only because of the sheer number of pokies contained there. I never have, and never will, understand the appeal of these stupid machines to the punter, but when they're all pulling in >$10000 a MONTH, I can understand why licencees absolutely adore them.

That's not to say I don't like to bet, but I prefer to do it where a computer doesn't determine the outcome as soon as you press a button. (UniTAB Sportsbet all the way!)

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
