I have not been this excited to head off to a match for sometime! Looking forward to seeing a good game tonight, and coming up against one of our first tests this season.

-Looking to see how our backline goes tonight, and if we can come out on top of a classy forward (albeit without Brown)

-How will our young midfield brigade stand up against some classy ball winners in Rich, Johnstone and Brennan

-Will we be able combat Brsibane's style of gameplay through our ball carrying

This looms as a particularly interesting match, and should be a good game of football. Though we may not win, I reckon we are in a good position heading into this clash, especially since that Power and Brown are missing. Both of these players are class acts, however Brisbane do still have a spread of talent.

Just warming up the tonsils, Feeling confident about this one. We may not win but I think we can really push the Lions as we are coming in with form and belief.

Harsh that Bail is the one making way for Martin (still want to argue that it was stupid to suggest there will be a late change Nasher :P ), unless of course Bail is under an injury cloud. Having said that, I'm glad Jamar is getting some help.

Looking forward to, hopefully, a great contest as I head off to a cold MCG.

GO DEES!!!!

Brown and Black confirmed to play, even though they are under injury clouds. Yet Voss admitted that it's a long season and it's fairly early to take risks. Maybe he is a little bit nervous about tonight.

Interesting...

Go Dee's! Will be cheering from an ale house in Bears country!

I don't know what to do with myself at the moment. I haven't been able to go to a game this year due to clashes with my other football commitments. Watching the games on tape is not the same. I am yet to see the two top draft picks from last year play live. I'M JUMPING OUT OF MY SKIN. It's all I can do to not jump on the train right now and get there ASAP!!!!I just hope we put up a good show. I believe we can win. I think some rain about helps. GO DEES!!! MASSIVE GAME!!!

Final teams - Martin in for Bail

Was thinking earlier in the week Martin would be a good match up for J. Brown, despite recent game time in attack for us..

Hope he gets a shot if Frawls doesnt work out. Bummer about Bail- who must be injured- considering he has been playing so well..

Would love to get within 5 goals of this mob.. they dont play at the G to often, so we're a chance..

Hope it's not Bail's quad?

As for Brownie... didn't someone say he was DEFINITELY out?

No reports?

Sounds like a scrappy start. Demons lining up with players behind the ball.

Scores tied at 2 point apiece 10 minutes into the first quarter.

Dunn into the changerooms with what looks like a broken nose.

Trengove kicks the first goal!

Goals to Silly from long range and Trengove...

We're 2 goals up!

Edit: long-ish range. 40 metres out or thereabouts.

This is Frawleys nite to really come of age

Aaah. Good to see I'm not commentating here for myself.

Frawley's always played well on Fev. At least for the first half of games. Sounds like he's come to play after a not-so-great week last week.

Evidently the umpires are having another beauty. On the plus side they gave one to Rich that ended up in a goal, then Petterd got all into Trapper's back in the square, but was not penalised. End result? a goal each.

Demons by 2 goals. Petterd up and about, 2 goals.

Demons 4.2

Lions 2.2

Ok... Others might want to correct me here... but that sounded to me, over the radio with match-day stats, like just about the most complete quarter we've played.

Looking at the stats, we have Bruce on 8 touches, and Green, Moloney and Trengove on 7. No major shocks there.

But it's the next tier of players that surprise me.

Bartram, Bate, Davey and Mckenzie on 6 touches, and Grimes, Jamar, Jones, McDonald, Petterd all on 5. That's a lot more players than usual on a good amount of touches.

Anyhow.

Petterd with 2 goals, Demons all over the joint. The few not in the stats column are defenders who are beating their opponents.

Of the opponents, Rischitelli, Black, Brennan, Hawksley and Trapper all doing plenty. Fev has had a fair bit of it but has kicked horribly.

Demons 4.2 - 26

Lions 2.3 - 15

You're kidding me...

Mark Jamar has made a deal with the devil.

Incredible.

Johnathan Brown at CHB!!!!

Posted

Jamar on 11 touches is our leading possession getter. Isn't he supposed to be tired? He's not even doing it on his own this week?!!!

Sylvia goals after Frawley gains the ball in defence.

Extraordinary ball movement, we're winning every contested ball, we're going coast to coast, running in numbers.

Smashing them. Lions kept goalless so far this quarter and 2 goals for the game. Silly and Ricky Bobby on two each.

Wow.

Demons 7.2 - 44

Lions 2.6 - 18

TREEENGOOOVE!!!

Completes a long play where Frawley and Moloney won balls. He's got two now, demons are smashing EVERYTHING.

Lions are coming to PIECES, panicking, yelling at each other.

Demons 8.2 - 50

Lions 2.6 - 18

Well I'm writing to myself here pretty much. Nonetheless.

Good lord. I wish I was in Melbourne right now.

Demons 9.6 - 60

Lions 3.6 - 24

(our highest half time score against the Lions since 1999)

My major concern this year was always whether or not we'd be in danger of a wooden spoon again. That fear is now gone completely.

I don't know who to say has been BOG. Commentators are saying Black has been pretty amazing, and his stats certainly make it look that way. But if it's a demon, it could be any one of about 6 guys, who are supported by another 6 who aren't that far off.

Bate - 13 touches, 7 marks and has been a main target going forward.

Bruce has been in a LOT of things. Naysayers will highlight his hospital passes again though.

Davey - 12 touches and set up a lot of goals along with kicking one himself.

Frawley - Has been in everything out of defence and has been one of our most damaging in the rebound.

Green - 11 touches, and a superb goal late in the half.

Jamar - 13 touches ( ??? ) 12 hitouts and a goal.

Jones - 13 touches.

JMac - 13 touches.

Jordie Mac - 11 touches and hard as old boots.

Beamer - 15 touches and picked up where he left off. Probably BOG.

Petterd - 2 goals, 4 tackles. Has been similar to how he played against the Pies. Involved in everything, taking marks and helping teammates.

Sylvia - Has been equally as dangerous. 2 goals.

Scully - Only 7 touches, but is doing a lot with them according to the commentators.

Trengove - 12 touches, 2 goals.

So many plusses. I'll wait til the end of the game. And that's only if there's room on the board. I can't think of a player who hasn't had a dip.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
