Not that I ever doubted it but I saw enough today to know we picked a winner with Jack Watts. Who gives a crap what BT and Lethal think. They are wrong pure and simple.

Anyone else get the impression that some radio commentators get paid to be idiots!

Like the ones who mistook Chip for Trengove.. then yes, they are idiots and they get paid well for it.

Naitanui is breathtaking, and when he does something it's hard not to go "wow".

So incredibly overrated though, it's infuriating. He's certainly exciting to watch, but he does one or two things all day and doesn't touch the footy anywhere else around the ground. Taking him pick 2 was such a gamble. If I were West Coast I'd have taken Hill.

That [censored] Leigh Matthews got in to him a bit on the way home tonight reckons he doesn't show enough for someone in his second season and is just a player. No thought that it was his first game this year or that he only played 3 last year, Jesus I hate Matthews.

Arrogant [censored].

He had it in for him when Watts played his second game against Essendon last year.

He played alright. But he did not seem to want the ball, Im not having a dig at him because I thought he was alright, but he just needs to want the ball more and demand it more and that is when he will start having better games. Took some nice marks out in front today which was nice to see.

I mentioned that a few times today, he was waving his hands to suggest they kick it to him but he should be demanding the ball, he has good hands and there were several times when he was one out and a mark would have given us a big advantage but they ignored him.

Once he gets more confidence he will present himself more and they will kick it to him, he can't just stand there and wait for it he has to move around and make himself the best option.

I agree in a few months he will show more and more.

Watts played well considering the team performance today.

And compare the amount & quality of delivery into the West Coast forward 50 to ours, and Nik Nat had twice the opportunity but only 2/3 the disposals.

Overrated IMO, Watts looks to be the better footballer.

All NN will need to do is take a couple of marks and then the media will be all over him like herpes on a 30cent street walker. After JW's 4th game, I could not imagine how much better he will be. NN after 18 games, to me is a hack footballer, Trengove (another #2 pick) has displayed more quality in his 8 games than NN's 18 games combined.

So the times he was on his own screaming for the ball only to see it bombed aimlessly or turned over - that was because he "did not seem to want the ball"?

And when he led and the pass missed him by 10 metres - "did not seem to want the ball"???

Might be smarter to wait for a game when he's getting good delivery before pulling out a statement like that. And how can you be NOT having a dig at him? If this is the sort of carp he gets from so-called supporters ... sheesh!!

There is a difference from calling for the ball and wanting it. I saw on many occasions he was in the middle of the ground just jogging along waving his hands like he wanted it, but anyone could tell that he really did not want it. He did not want the ball on that occasion and there where others like it. I am deffinateley not having a go at him, it is his 4th game, Im just saying what I thought about his game and what I believe he should do to improve it...sheesh!!

I can't be bothered reading all the posts, but I've never read such myopic discussion on a forum. All the rose coloured glasses that came out today after (our) Jack's 1st appearance was dogmatic to say the least.

Nit Nat - 100 touches in the AFL thus far, 70 clearances. 2 clearances today, 2 goals. Massive leaping, breathtaking athlete and helped by our players kicking him beautiful drop punts to make poor ole Russian feel like a stepladder. Maybe they had a vested interest in the car for mark of the year??

This guy is a generational draft pick - simply put, he is amazing, similar to the Scullgroves. Don't tell me, NOT ONCE! did some of you bemoan the fact the WE didn't pick him 1st.

I did.

If you don't want to read all the posts then don't generalise your comments about said posts. No-one can deny the talents, ability and potential of Nic Nat. And no-one here does. I think what pisses people off is how the media drools about him when, in reality, he does 2 to 3 terrific things a game and not much else. I can honestly say that not once have I ever wished we took Nic Nat - to say so after Watts has played just 4 games is foolish.

Good base for Jack to build on from today on this performance

he retains his spot and thats what it's all about at the moment.

The day he makes it and all the doomsayers have to eat their hats will be beautiful indeed.

Writing off a teenager so early makes as much sense as using a hornets nest as underwear.

Therein lies the flaw that you've just analysed yourself - no-one doubts the ability of Nic Nat, yet so many are so afraid to speak their mind on this forum because they'll be pounced on by tunnel visioned posters that choose to attack the poster rather than the argument.

Many on this topic are kidding themselves.

Fair point, but it's the same on every other site when it comes to the "rose colored glasses". Just a fact of internet fan site life. Nic Nat will be a gun but, with time, I have every faith that Watts will be as well and he gave a glimpse of that potential today. And I believe that 90% of the people who post here would feel the same way.

You're right - perhaps I'm still too close to the loss, watching this huge unit running around, fantasing on what could have been.

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
