I saw that Junior is playing half forward flank?

If that is right is Hodge on him or is he on Hodge?

Is Junior a defensive forward to stop Hawthorn run from half back?

I'd prefer Dunn, McKenzie or Bruce to run with Hodge.

I wouldn't worry about the team sheet indicating positions on the field.

It's rarely accurate, if ever.

Agreed, the team sheet means nothing anymore. I would love to see Bruce run with him.

I agree i like the idea of giving the job to Bruce.

Some of his best footy has been playing a run-with role and his tremendous fitness and willingness to push forward can be used to a real advantage to hurt Hodge the other way.

Anyway, if we're going to have someone 'on' Hodge I'd like it to be someone that can present when we have the footy.

If Hodge isn't accountable then we can go through his man.

I would like to see Dunn run with Hodge. He has pace, and when Hodge floats around the half-hack line, Dunn is good enough to play off him and kick a goal or two himself.

I don't think Bruce is at that level (of being able to tag the opposition best) anymore.

I think Bruce will play a forward role leaving Dunn and or McKenzie to run with him also..A smokey--Jones may.

I think Hodge will play midfield to help cover the loss of Sewell and Bateman. In which case I think McKenzie should play on him.

If he plays half back I'd put Dunn on him. He'd then be playing as a forward, but he has the tank to go with Hodge when he pushes up the ground.

Titan is probably onto something.

If he's not playing in the middle I don't really know if you try to stop Hodge.

He's a gun, but I don't really think the best way to counter him is to have a hard tag.

Bruce et al, should be near him at all stoppages but other than that, the best way to beat him is to provide a real attacking option, hurt him on the score board.

I don't know if we're good enough to do this though and we'll probably end up needing someone to be on him at all times

In another time I might agree, but not after Bruce's pre-season limited by hamstring problems.

Also wouldn't be surprised to see Grimes do it.

He'll have a run with some of the bigger names this year and he has the height to go with Hodge.

Posted

I don't mind the idea of Dunn running with him. He has the engine, and by the looks of it, the size.

Having said that, if there was a more mobile toughnut that JMac I'd prefer that. I was hoping to see Dunn forward at least for a bit.

Truth be told, I imagine they'll try a whole lot of guys on him.

He and Roughy are the only scary threats for mine. And I'm happy with Frawley if he's forward, or Jamar if he's in the ruck.

Jamar-Grimes FTW.

If we can stop them from springboarding it out of our attack I reckon we could be a good thing.

Bruce on Hodge

Jones runs with Mitchell

McDonald to help out.

Moloney to run through them at every opportunity.

Scully, Grimes and Trengove to cut loose

Dees by 6 goals.

Headlines read

"Bookies rewrite the market as Dee's burn Hawthorn"

"How good can they be?"

"Grimes comes of age against Hawks"

"The fire has well and truly started"

"Demons on song as Fire engulfs the Hawks"

Put Lynden Dunn on him, get him to prove himself as a tagger

If Dunn is our tagger he is finished as an AFL footballer.

JUST noticed John Butcher as one of your favourite players-- like this post- you just prove you have jusy no idea.

Prett rich considering the source.

I'd agree with roost it anyway, Dunn as a tagger, the way I see it, was a temporary situation in an effort to add a few more strings to his bow.

Considering he has the running capacity to go with some of the games' best, it was a good gamble to aid his development.

It was never a longterm serious proposition.

Either way, so far it has not had the desired effect.

End of story.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
