Think you've missed deanox's point there RR. Read the last line in particular. rpfc asserted that Newton's lack of body strength was due to him being lazy in the gym; how could anyone outside the club possibly know that? deanox rightfully pulled him up on it.

You are right if you take rpfc's comment literally and fair enough.

My understanding is that at times, Newton has been an indifferent trainer.

Yeah, good call. No one has accused Morton of being lazy even though at times he seems to become skinnier since he arrived at the club...

When you consider Morton's on field work rate it would be a brave call indeed.

im not trying to say newton is a fantastic footballer. i just dont think you should pay him out for 'commitment to training' based on his muscle definition. cheers nasher for pointing that out.

if anyone does have info RE newtons track or gym efforts i'd be interested to hear it. is he training with the group atm?

yes he is training with the main group, and i tell you now, he never looks commited, hes always laughing and joking, i didnt want to go into this because hes not popular on this site, my brother noticed last week, his application at training is pathetic, he doesnt look like a player that is fighting for his future.

thankyou for that insight.

it is interesting because i was under the impression he was a bit of a loner (not a loser just someone who wasnt the popular laughing joking kind). on the field he doesn't seem to have that camaraderie with the other players...

I spoke to a bloke at the club at the end of 2008 and asked about how Newton can still have a waist wider than his shoulders and whether he had a shoulder problem or something to prevent his upper body from developing.

The answer that I got back is exactly what I have gleaned from watching him play and train myself - he is a coaster of the highest order. That may have changed in the time since then, or it may change now that he is 'delisted,' but it is not some unfounded, or misinterpreted, view of mine.

He should be bigger than he is.

The club knows it.

He knows it.

And every Demon fans should ask no less than, barring injury, their players get their bodies in the best shape to play for their club.

In saying that, why the HELL woult the dees re draft him??? they should pick one of the other talented kids as a rookie.

Say NO to Newton... He was [censored] playing in the VFL, he was kicking is not accurate and seeing the forward line MFC has, i'd dump him.

He still has another year to run on his contract, if we delist him a then we have to pay him out. The new rule was brought in to allow clubs to have 'mature age rookies', meaning we could delist him and then take him as a rookie. This effectively allowed us to get Gawn & Fitzpatrick, these are the two 'talented kids' we picked up.

I think the club did pretty well tbh

The big thing with Juice is his head. People can go on and on about his skills, body, and all the tangible things. He may not be the MOST gifted player ever to play the game, but he certainly has ENOUGH gifts to make it.

We all dance around the topic, but let's once and for all call a spade a spade. He's been retained on the list for this long for one reason, and one reason only. To see if his head finally got out of his way. If he shows that he can drop the ego, and put his team before himself, he will be given an opportunity and will be odds on to make it.

When I see him HATE himself for missing a shot on goal, and be ashamed of himself for his TEAM'S sake, then I'll have some hope. As it is he's one of those players that's more interested in his own game than winning. The kind of guy that goes home satisfied if he kicks 6 in a losing side.

Think Robbo without the love of the jumper, and with half as much talent.

If he doesn't work it out, then he's turfed. But for the time being, this year and last he's as good a bet as any. And at his physical size he's more likely than an 18 year old KP player to make some sort of difference in 2010.

What, and pay him out ? And lose face and intergrity among the football industry after making promises that the club couldn't keep ? Real smart.

Its not even this - its making promises that the club could keep, but has decided not to.

Which is even worse.

The club is trying to foster a culture where the players trust the club and want to re-sign here because the club will look after them.

Jordie McKenzie is proof it is already working, volunteering to remain on the rookie list for 2010 so we could use an extra ND pick, knowing the club will elevate him for 2011.

Such a mercenary attitude is counter-productive.

Anyone who has any real idea about Management and HR knows these things.

I think you are on the money and I love this approach the club is taking and if players are on board as a result then it shows that it is working.

The club doesnt need to get everything in place this year.. we still have some tinkering to do..and if they dont cut the cloth the right way...both are gone..Simple as that.

Weve come a long way...lets not panic that every I and T isnt dotted and crossed... theres still work to be done.

There will always be tinkering...tinkering never stops, it's ongoing.

If only these two were out of contract.

Daw and Panos would have been nice!

I hope Newton pulls his finger out for his sake!

One wonders why Danny Hughes is still on the rookie list??

He could've enabled us another selection.

If one of them was out of contract we could have demoted another player to the rookie list and had another pick in the National Draft. Maybe Dylan Grimes could have been a Demon. List management is very tricky.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
