Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

2009 Player Review - # 32 Cameron Bruce

Demonland

Recommended Posts

Cameron Bruce – 'Brucey' had another very consistent year. The great thing about him is his flexibility. He played midfield, forward and played down back and did fantastic jobs on guys like Brad Johnson. Even in the latter part of his career, he showed some improvement again, so he is always working on his game. His leadership is important around the club Sean Wellman on Melbournefc.com.au

Football player.

Anyone who's asking more from Cam Bruce needs to understand what kind of player he is, what his ceiling is, what we drafted him at...

Bruce has gotten the best out of himself and continues to get the best out of himself. What more can you ask for?

Easily the most hard done by player on these forums since I've been here.

In my mind in a good side, he could be the best tagger in the league. Has the one on one strength, endurance, and ability to hurt the other way to quell the effectiveness of almost anyone. He'll continue to fill his role on the HBF, but as he starts to be surpassed by better players (Strauss et al), that's the role I'd like to see him move in to if he's still around.

You can all go bury your collective heads in the sand.. but thats the kind of player Bruce is.,., Apllies himself ..for sure.. invariably 100% effort.. no argument.. results ?? ah..there's the rub !!

I agree, but he still brings it on himself with those hospital handballs...

Has few weaknesses, but they are glaringly obvious (as opposed to other players whose weaknesses are less obvious but more damaging)

I don't think he's been getting the best ouf of himself when it comes to his disposal in recent times.

Since you've been here from the start, isn't that clause made a bit redundant?

You're right, though. But that line of thought is perpetuated by a few (we all know who), and I reckon it's permeated into the general thought.

Bruce really has to work on his kicking, but he never, ever, gives up, he has good pace for someone of his height, and he can play midfield or defence (don't really rate him as a forward on account of his crappy kicking).

Your idea about him being a tagger is a new one, and I like it. That could work well. Certainly I'd prefer Bruce taking a tagging role than, say, Bartram, or Dunn.

TU - work on his kicking?

He's 30. Old dogs...

Elite runner, has had a good career, will play out his last few years off a HBF.

Well, couldn't he at least try...

Look, at his age, you're right, he isn't going to be able to change his action. But he can definitely work on his decisions as to who to kick to.

Off topic a bit, but I haven't been here from the start. Demonland existed in a previous incarnation before this one, of which I had only been a member for a year or so.

Not consistently, though. Just on occasion. I meant that maybe he'd be turned into a Ling-type, the tagger of the team, to whom we assign a shut-down role week-in-week-out.

Not consistently, however he did tag alot under ND early on consistently and was quite effective. He has on occassions since.

Id much rather Bruce be assigned a 'negative' closing down role than anything offensive

cops a lot of crap from people who have no idea about football. Throughout his career he has been the most underrated Melbourne player . Has never received anywhere near the recognition he's deserved, for example he has never made an All Australian side however its always harder to make the side as a midfielder. Still has a couple of seasons left in him and if he hadnt have got injured this season I personally feel he would have taken home his second Bluey.

Another very solid year IMO. For a few of seasons I thought Cam was heading for stardom, but I was a long way off the mark with that prediction. None-the-less, his consistency and work ethic, amidst a plethora of disappointing team performances over the last few years, has been excellent. Unfortunately he will never be a 'match breaker', but like most others around here, I just wish he could improve his disopsal by 10% or so.

Steady on, he's never deserved to be AA.

he is our best gut runner. you watch bruce and he butchers his fair share of kicks but he runs harder than other bloke in our team. up and down the park, with his man, and one one one is rarely beaten. you dont get a reputation as one of hte toughest opponents from a champion of the game (brad johnson) for nothing.

probably our smartest player in terms of nous as well

just has a lot of his good work undone by virtue of his shanked kicks, which is a shame for him and the MFC

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
